Dedeaux Download: Hitting coach Travis Jewett, 1B Adrian Lopez talk UCLA series win

5/7/2025
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's big rivalry series win over then-No. 14 UCLA that helped push the Trojans into the top 25 rankings for the first time since 2023. Shotgun and Kasey take a look at all the action, pointing out the positives of the Trojans improving to 32-16 with a 16-8 mark in Big Ten play and a third-place spot in the standings behind only Iowa and the Bruins. They discuss the power of names that start with the letter 'A' as well as the Trojans' ability to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss in the series opener to still be able to get the series win. Shotgun and Kasey also look at how USC boosted its resume behind strong production of a pair of Lopezes. The podcasters also discuss three negatives, including a growing trend for Caden Hunter and a tough outing for top reliever Brodie Burcell. USC hitting coach Travis Jewett then joins the show to talk about how the Trojans' offense was able to bounce back after failing to capitalize on opportunities in the series opener against UCLA, ending the game with the bases loaded in a one-run loss. He also discusses how the USC lineup has got longer and stronger as the season has progressed with the development of players like Andrew Lamb, Jack Basseer, Adrian and Augie Lopez. Jewett even talks about the art of helping hitters break out of slumps. After a break, Adrian Lopez joins the show to talk about his transfer portal journey that has taken him to two high schools and two colleges over the last four seasons and how he's found a home at USC, a place he didn't grow up rooting for but his whole family did. Lopez discusses his connection with Jewett and how the two have worked together this season. Lopez also shares his favorite between-inning festivity that takes place during games and talks about the connection of players, including ones on hated teams and those in the USC locker room. Shotgun and Kasey close out the show taking a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another Big Ten series, improving their RPI briefly up to No. 29 (now No. 31). The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action with the Trojans taking on Big Ten Pitcher of the Year candidate Joseph Dzierwa and Michigan State at Great Park this weekend. Coach Harvey Hyde on what he learned from the assistant coach media brunch

5/5/2025
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about what they learned from last week's USC assistant football coach media brunch, where six offensive and six defensive assistants sat down with the media for an hour, answering questions about how spring football went and what Trojan fans can expect from their respective position groups in the future. The USC football staff is a great mix of young, energetic coaches like cornerbacks coach Trovon Reed and inside receivers coach Chad Savage and older, veteran coaches like linebackers coach Rob Ryan. The guys talk about some of the highlights from what they heard from the staff and why they are optimistic that this group of coaches can turn things around in 2025. Coach Hyde also discusses the current state of USC football recruiting, with the Trojans building up a massive 2026 class that currently ranks No. 1 in the country. The focus has been on local prospects and it has paid off, with 27 commitments and counting including the impressive recent pledge from five-star offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe. They finish the show talking about the recent decision by head coach Lincoln Riley to let Director of Football Sports Performance Bennie Wylie go, taking USC's strength and conditioning program in another direction. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Tunnel Vision: The USC football recruiting machine is rolling plus our assistant coach brunch recap

5/5/2025
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Shotgun Spratling and new intern Riley Sager are back in studio to discuss everything happening in the world of USC football, from recruiting to what all 12 assistant football coaches had to say this week at the media brunch. Our team starts off talking about the nearly unbelievable turnaround for USC football recruiting, both from the high school ranks and the NCAA Transfer Portal. Over the past five days the Trojans have picked up as many commits, four from high school and one from the portal. Things got started on Wednesday with three-star receiver Roderick Tezeno, Thursday USC added five-star offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe, Friday was four-star corner Elbert Hill, Saturday three-star receiver Luc Weaver before UCF transfer cornerback Chasen Johnson picked USC on Sunday. Lincoln Riley and his crew have the No. 1 ranked recruiting class for 2026 and it isn't close, with 27 commitments and nearly 295 points (Notre Dame is second with 14 commits and 236 points). The efforts to focus on high school recruiting by new general manager Chad Bowden is paying off and the Trojans are not slowing down on the recruiting trail. On the team side, we were able to meet with 12 assistants on Wednesday at USC's media brunch, two hours of interviews that we filmed and uploaded to our YouTube page. We were able to gain a lot of insight into what the plan is for the off-season to turn things around on the field in 2025. Shotgun also spent the morning at the Under Armour Next Camp in Mission Viejo and shares his thoughts on how the Trojan commitments and targets performed, including defensive line MVP Simote Katoanga out of Santa Margarita (Calif.) and offensive line MVP Chase Deniz out of San Diego (Calif.) Cathedral Catholic. They will also talk about Riley's decision to let Director of Football Sports Performance Bennie Wylie go and head in a different direction for future of USC football strength and conditioning. Dedeaux Download: Andy Stankiewicz on where USC baseball stands heading into final month

4/24/2025
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 3-1 week that featured a series win over Gonzaga and a dominant midweek win over Long Beach State. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives of the Trojans improving to 26-14 with an 11-7 mark in Big Ten play and a fourth-place spot in the standings behind only two ranked teams and Iowa. They discuss the play of Adrian Lopez powering the offense all weekend against the Zags as well as Ethan Hedges seeming to get back on track after a rough spell. Shotgun and Kasey also look at how the Trojans were able to bounce back after dropping the opener against Gonzaga with some uncharacteristically sloppy play thanks to the bullpen stepping up throughout the week. The podcasters also look at three negatives, including Kevin Takeuchi reinjuring his left shoulder during Tuesday's win at Long Beach and the RPI hit that one poor game can have as the Trojans start looking toward the postseason. After a break, USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz then joins the show to talk about how the Big Ten schedule, including the back-and-forth travel, has treated his team and how his players have handled and adjusted to the differences and challenges. He also discusses how the Trojans have tried to deal with a spate of injuries with multiple pitchers lost for the season as well as Takeuchi's shoulder issues. Stankiewicz then takes the listener through some strategic thought processes of how he tries to use late-inning opportunities in blowout games as well as how he handles his star players being in a funk, especially later in the season. The Trojan head man chats about Hedges, Lopez, Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek, Caden Hunter, Andrew Johnson, Jack Basseer and others. Shotgun and Kasey close out the show taking a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another series and taking a peek at where the Trojans could wind up in the postseason. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action with the Trojans heading to Minneapolis to take on an injury-riddled Minnesota team that continues to battle despite 11 significant injuries, including five of the season-ending variety. Final week of spring ball plus Trojans add a Big Ten linebacker from the portal

4/23/2025
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the addition of former Penn State linebacker Te'Mere Robinson from the NCAA Transfer Portal. The 6-foot-3, 223-pound Robinson gives the Trojans' linebacker room some much needed depth. Robinson didn't play much on defense in his two years with the Nittany Lions (107 total defensive snaps), but he was having a solid spring camp in Happy Valley prior to entering the portal. USC also lost another player to the portal, redshirt freshman Jarvis Boatwright out of Clearwater, Florida did not see any action in 2024 and will now try his luck at another program for 2025. The guys also discuss all of the news and notes from spring practice including what Lincoln Riley had to say about the starting quarterback situation, the depth at defensive line and wide receiver and Trojan legend Troy Polamalu showing up at practice this week. Dedeaux Download Podcast: Trojans win series at Penn State; Adam Thackery joins the show

4/17/2025
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 3-2 week that featured a midweek win over Loyola Marymount and another Big Ten road series win for the Trojans before USC dropped a midweek against Hawai'i that they couldn't close out with the lead. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives of the Trojans improving to 23-13 with an 11-7 mark in Big Ten play, bumping up to fourth in the standings behind only two ranked teams and Iowa. They discuss the play of the Cadens (Hunter and Aoki) at the front of the weekend pitching rotation as well as Big Ten Player of the Week Abbrie Covarrubias and the bounce backs of a couple of players, who were unfazed by a poor performance early in the weekend. The podcasters also look at three negatives, including the continued black hole that is USC's Sunday starting pitching role and not being able to close out a couple of winnable games because of mistakes and free bases. USC director of baseball performance Adam Thackery then joins the show to talk about his transition from football strength and conditioning at USC to working with the Trojan baseballers. He talks about what he thinks it takes to win a national championship having been the strength coach for the 2021 national champion Mississippi State Bulldogs, gives his favorite Mike Leach story and discusses the intricacies of training two completely separate groups with pitchers (and the differences between starters and relievers) and hitters. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another conference series and take a peek at where the Trojans could wind up in the postseason. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action with the Trojans hosting a surging Gonzaga team that has won 15 of 18 in a Thursday-Friday-Saturday Easter weekend series before having a midweek matchup with Long Beach State. How active will USC be as the spring NCAA Transfer Portal opens

4/16/2025
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about the highly anticipated opening of the spring NCAA Transfer Portal Window and how active will the Trojans be? Head coach Lincoln Riley has said USC would do their portal evaluations and add the "right couple of guys" to help them get ready for the season. With the House settlement potentially passing, allowing athletic departments to share revenue with student athletes, will that make this spring portal a Portal Palooza or more of a Portal Passivity? All eyes will be on the quarterback position, where following the season many thought the Trojans would be in the market for a signal caller. It still isn't out of the question that USC brings in a QB, but it just doesn't seem very likely at this point. We have heard the Trojans aren't interested in former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, but with Tennessee now scouring the country for Nico's replacement, that could cause a domino effect that opens up a potential quarterback poaching opportunity for Lincoln Riley. The guys also discuss all of the news and notes from spring practice including tight end Lake McRee shutting it down for the rest of spring due to an undisclosed injury and redshirt freshman defensive end Lorenzo Cowan entering the portal. Coach Harvey Hyde assessing USC's quarterback situation following the Nico Iamaleava fiasco

4/14/2025
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together taking a detailed look at USC's quarterback situation and the potential national QB shakeup with Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee parting ways. The Trojans are in good shape with returning starter Jayden Maiava, five-star freshman Husan Longstreet and former five-star prospect Sam Huard occupying Luke Huard's quarterback meetings, but should head coach Lincoln Riley look to get in on Iamaleava? Coach Hyde and Ryan give their thoughts on the entire QB picture for USC and what this stunning NIL development means for the future of college football. Coach Hyde also discusses who he feels is the current face of the Trojan football program, what areas he feels this team has improved on this off-season, if the offensive philosophy has or should change going forward, how tough will the Big Ten be in 2025 and why is spring football such a big secret all of a sudden. Dedeaux Download Podcast: Midseason All-American Ethan Hedges joins after Trojans rally to sweep Ohio State

4/7/2025
The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 4-0 week that featured a midweek win over San Diego State and the Trojans' first Big Ten series sweep after they rallied late in back-to-back games to finish off Ohio State. That included being down to their final out Sunday before Brayden Dowd hit a game-tying home run, and USC won on a Dean Carpentier walk-off. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives of the Trojans improving to 20-11 with a 9-6 mark in the Big Ten with their comeback ability and the clutch gene of Dowd. The podcasters also look at three negatives on each side, including the continued black hole that is USC's Sunday starting pitching role. USC two-way star Ethan Hedges then joins the show to talk about his transition to being on the mound this season after being exclusively a hitter his first two seasons with the Trojans. He discusses how he's been able to unlock his power potential, hitting 11 home runs already this season after having just four combined in his first two seasons. Hedges also chats about the 'one-more-run' mentality the Trojans have this season and how that's helped them come from behind in multiple games this season. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after winning another conference series, including multiple players ranking amongst the Big Ten and national leaders. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action, beginning with a midweek matchup at their home away from home as the Trojans will be the road team against Loyola Marymount at Page Stadium where USC has been playing its midweek 'home' games. USC Triple-Double: Women of Troy season ends in Elite 8, men competing in CBC

4/2/2025
The USC Triple-Double Podcast -- the Peristyle Podcast's basketball-focused podcast -- returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) breaking down the conclusion of the Women of Troy's remarkable 31-4 season as the Trojans advanced to the Elite 8 with a 67-61 win over Kansas State before falling in the Elite 8 to UConn for the second consecutive season. Shotgun and Connor talk about the outstanding performance of USC's freshman trio -- Avery Howell, Kennedy Smith and Kayleigh Heckel -- in the Sweet 16 victory over Kansas State as well as the dynamic effort of Rayah Marshall to keep the Women of Troy in the battle with Connecticut. They also discuss Kiki Iriafen's struggles and how UConn was able to pull away behind its superstar Paige Bueckers. The podcasting duo also take a look at the USC men's opening game in the College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas where the Trojans trounced Tulane, 89-60, behind another electric outing from Rashaun Agee, who continues to show more and more confidence. They also discuss the McDonald's All-American efforts of Alijah Arenas for the men and Jazzy Davidson on the women's side. After a break, Shotgun and Connor look at where the Women of Troy program stands after two remarkable seasons as No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament, with both ending one game shy of the Trojans' first Final Four since 1986. They also debate what type of transfer portal options the USC women could target and what the roster could look like next season. They also do look ahead to the men's basketball team's College Basketball Crown tournament quarterfinals matchup against Villanova with at least $50,000 on the line in NIL money for the teams.
