Description:

Gospel Gothic isn’t your grandmother’s religious radio. Close the Baptist hymnal and the Book of Common Prayer. On Gospel Gothic, Mathew, Mark, Luke and Johnny Cash match metaphors and make meaning. The show is rooted in the Creek in Macon, Georgia, and hosted by a real-life Baptist minister who knows both the redemption and ruin of southern religion. Gospel Gothic draws inspiration from Southern Gothic writers like Flannery O’Connor, who once confessed that: “the South is hardly Christ-centered, yet it is most certainly Christ-haunted.” The spirits that O’Conor describes invite us to look for inspiration in Gospel Gothic’s blend of rock, folk, country, blues, and soul. The Preacher, Jake Hall, exegetes Allison Russell, Parker Milsap, and Jason Isbell. These Americana prophets find echoes in Kris Kristofferson, Rhiannon Giddens, or the most venerable Saint Mavis Staples. Even the apocalyptic gravel of Ray Wylie Hubbard adds a revelatory rumble from time to time. Join the scattered congregation of all sinners and saints on Country a Go Go at 11:00 am on Sundays, where roots music redeems your soul, country sounds convict the heart, and Americana amplifies our alleluias. Your Preacher: Rev. Dr. Jake Hall, known as the Bishop of Cherry St., Cleric of Capricorn Studios, and an Apostle of Americana. Jake pastored Baptist congregations in the South for over 20 years and now finds the most vibrant sacred spaces beyond the stained glass, where the center aisle leads outside the church walls and into the wild.
