ZOOM’D Leadership

VoiceAmerica

ZOOM’D takes you out to big picture issues of the day, in to up-close-and-personal capacities of leadership, and toward a desirable future of constant renewal. Whether focused on the economic crisis, energy, climate change, or sustainability at large, ZOOM’D looks at what is really going on. We’ll examine patterns at play, drivers behind them, perspectives of leadership, and the importance of changing the way we pursue the future. ZOOM’D uniquely interweaves emphasis on the objective and subjective—on tangible shifts needed in systems, institutions, governance, and behaviors; and on intangible values, cultures, and leader mindsets needed to see, shape, and orchestrate the shifts. ZOOM’D bridges the conceptual to the practical for all in business, government, and civil society to benefit from and to activate leadership around.

Ayni and Light of the Andes

11/12/2012
Dr. James E. Williams, doctor of integrative medicine, accomplished author, and founder and President of Ayni Global, joins ZOOM’D to discuss his latest book, Light of the Andes, a personal account of direct experience with indigenous wisdom and his shamanic journey deep into the heart and high peaks of the Andes. James explores the indigenous way of being discovered amidst the Q’ero peoples of Peru, termed Ayni, a form of living based on reciprocity, responsibility, and holistic integration of the individual (I), community (We), and nature (It). While born centuries ago and lived through many ages, James describes how Ayni holds relevance as a sustainability principle today, potentially serving as a guide to the modern world as it struggles to re-gain balance with nature and among peoples of the planet. Anyi is examined in four parts: general introduction; personal journey leading to its discovery; the wisdom of Ayni; and translation into a living realization today.

Leadership, Instincts, and the Era of Surprise

9/24/2012
Ted Usatynski, founder of the organization Instinctual Intelligence and author of the book, Instinctual Intelligence: The Primal Wisdom of the Nervous System and the Evolution of Human Nature, joins ZOOM’D again for further exploration into perfect storms, fear, and the coming era of surprise. This week Ted introduces the nature of instinctual and emotional shock generated by many sources, including daily stimulus by the media; illuminates how shock states can be recognized and felt from an embodied perspective; and points toward actions that might be taken to unleash as well as develop the flow of personal and collective leadership capacities available. Ted describes how the brain functions in relation to a world rich in fear—and links the discussion to the realm of universal intelligence that exists on the other side of instinctual hijacking of the body, emotions, and mind. See a multi-media trailer at http://instinctualintelligence.org/VideoPage/video5.html.

First People’s Wisdom

6/4/2012
Rebecca Adamson, Founder and President of First Peoples Worldwide, one of few indigenous-led international organizations guided by on-the-ground indigenous priorities for restoring the relationship between the sustained stewardship of resources and their sustainable productivity, joins ZOOM’D for Part I of a two-segment series to explore realities of change needed across the planet today—and the contribution of First People’s wisdom in support of it. Rebecca brings forward clear and distinct perspectives about how indigenous people’s systems thinking can transform business models of today, and how wisdom and paradigms of indigenous economics and the advocacy and engagement of corporate social responsibility can be used to catalyze change. Rich with stories and anecdotes, Rebecca’s experience shows how one woman and an organization with clear focus—from a remote rural office—takes on global giants using finance- and market-based strategies for change—and realizes decisive gains.
