Lee Michael Demsey has been playing a contemporary blend of Bluegrass at WAMU since 1983, with the early afternoon show Capital Bluegrass, later renamed the Lee Michael Demsey Show, which aired until 1993. From then until June 2001, he served as the "third" host of the drive-time Bluegrass Country show, filling in whenever the regular hosts were off. Lee works full-time for Smithsonian Folkways Recordings in Washington, D.C. and has compiled Bluegrass Unlimited's top 30 chart for the past eleven years.
