The Civil Wars formed in 2008 after singer-songwriters Joy Williams and John Paul White met at a songwriter session in Nashville, TN. Their 2011 debut album Barton Hollow went to number one on both the US Indie and US Folk charts in addition to winning Best Folk Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
