Brian Saady - The Drug War: A Trillion Dollar Con Game

9/7/2025
Brian Saady - The Drug War: A Trillion Dollar Con Game This three-book series, Rackets, presents the case for the legalization of drugs and gambling, along with the decriminalization of prostitution. It reveals the underlying corruption, hypocrisy, and abuses of power associated with the prohibition of these three vices. The war on drugs is a microcosm of far greater systemic problems with criminal justice and politics. This book shines a spotlight on the bureaucratic and corporate special interests that are fighting to keep this disastrous policy in place. That’s a theme of this book series -- exposing “rackets.” It denounces crony capitalists and the government "racketeers," i.e. bureaucracies, which operate similarly to organized criminals by posing as the solution to problems caused by the government. Suffice it to say, these books will prove that our political and criminal justice systems, in many ways, are inadvertently designed to fail...like rackets. The Drug War: A Trillion Dollar Con Game stands out from the crowd in a genre that is flooded with quality work. It makes it abundantly clear that criminalizing drugs has been an abysmal failure. Furthermore, practical and evidence-based solutions are presented. However, what sets this book apart is that it strips away every disingenuous aspect of the war on drugs. It’s the perfect antidote to decades of government propaganda. There are too many stunning revelations to list. You’ll discover all of the ways in which in the war on drugs serves as a pretense for expanding government power and our military forces abroad. Also, several major corporations and government agencies have been complicit in flagrant drug trafficking without being held accountable. This is explosive subject matter and Brian Saady's writing provides compelling, definitive analysis that is backed by extensive academic research. You’ll never look at the drug war, and many other issues, the same way as before.https://amzn.to/4ggAZMP Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

How I Lost By Hillary Clinton: by Hillary Clinton (Author), Julian Assange

9/6/2025
How I Lost By Hillary Clinton: by Hillary Clinton (Author), Julian Assange (Foreword), Joe Lauria (Introduction) Judging by the stance of the leadership of the Democratic Party and much of the media, Hillary Clinton's devastating loss in the presidential election of November 2016 was all the fault of pernicious Russian leaks, unwarranted FBI investigations and a skewed electoral college. Rarely blamed was the party's decision to run a deeply unpopular candidate on an uninspiring platform. At a time of widespread dissatisfaction with business-as-usual politics, the Democrats chose to field a quintessential insider. Her campaign dwelt little on policies, focusing overwhelmingly on the personality of her opponent. That this strategy was a failure is an understatement. Losing an election to someone with as little competence or support from his own party as Donald Trump marked an extraordinary fiasco. The refusal of the Democratic leadership to identify the real reasons for their defeat is not just a problem of history. If Democrats persevere with a politics that prioritizes well-off professionals rather than ordinary Americans, they will leave the field open to right wing populism for many years to come. Drawing on the WikiLeaks releases of Clinton's talks at Goldman Sachs and the e mails of her campaign chief John Podesta, as well as key passages from her public speeches, How I Lost By Hillary Clinton also includes extensive commentary by award-winning journalist Joe Lauria, and a foreword by Julian Assange, editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks. It provides, in the words of the Democratic candidate and her close associates, a riveting, unsparing picture of the disastrous campaign that delivered America to President Trump, and a stark warning of a mistake that must not be repeated. "Clinton lost the 2016 election, Trump didn't win it. How I Lost by Hillary Clinton is a vital rallying call against the type of triangulating politics that may defeat Trump in 2020, but will never defeat Trumpism." -Bhaskar Sunkara, editor, Jacobin Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Staggered Paths: Strange Deaths in the Badger State - Steven Spingola

9/4/2025
During a twenty year span, over two dozen young men were found dead in Wisconsin lakes, rivers, and wooded areas. Law enforcement officials attribute almost all of these strange deaths to acute alcohol intoxication, but others suspect a shadowy serial killer. Like most readers, Steve Spingola first learned of these tragic incidents from newspaper and television reports. During a career that spanned parts of four decades, the now retired lieutenant of detectives spent fifteen years investigating some of Milwaukee’s most complex and heinous murders, including those linked to Jeffrey Dahmer and the north side strangler. In Staggered Paths, the stellar sleuth poured through thousands of pages of police reports, dozens of newspaper accounts, and autopsy findings to independently review these strange and troubling deaths. Is a serial killer lurking in college towns, such as La Crosse and Eau Claire, to lure inebriated men to their watery graves? Spingola definitively answers this question and suggests some of these cases should be revisited. https://amzn.to/4g7MRRf Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Beyond Avery Road: Buting and the Beast

9/3/2025
Beyond Avery Road: Buting and the Beast In the state of Wisconsin, after being exonerated for a wrongful conviction on September 11, 2003, Steven Avery became a very political name in a very political time. Two years later, when arrested for the 'Intentional Homicide' of Teresa Halbach during a time when he filed a $36,000,000 civil suit, Steven alleges he was ultimately "Framed" by corrupt state officials to thwart off his chances of winning the suit. However, the Wisconsin DOJ argues that it was impossible for any such "Frame Job" to ever have happened. Though, could the "Framing" be probable, "If" the MO was political? What did Netflix's Making A Murderer miss? The political story behind Steven Avery's saga has remained untold... ...until now. "Possibly the most gripping political thriller you will be reading in 2017. 37 years experience on the news room floor and I've never witnessed what every journalist should be asking our Legislators about the possible corruption in our American Justice System. Keller's delivery is provocative and exposes a much needed change in Criminal Reform." -Patricia Sietz-Honig, News Editor, Sietz & Soundz, New York In the state of Wisconsin, after being exonerated for a wrongful conviction on September 11, 2003, Steven Avery became a very political name in a very political time.
