T&M 29: Fr. Matt Foley - Priest & Friend of Chris Farley

10/13/2017
Growing up in the 90s there was no bigger show for me than Saturday Night Live, and no bigger cast member than Chris Farley. When I was a student at Marquette University, I used to imagine fellow alum, Farley, running late for class through the academic yard … as seen in the movie Tommy Boy. Anytime I share my story of touring and living in a van for two years it is almost guaranteed someone wittingly responds, “Was it down by a river?” – a quote from Chris Farley’s iconic motivational speaker character, Matt Foley. I have always felt a strong connection to Chris especially after I heard that he was a practicing Catholic, like myself. I have always related to the very honest and human sweet/troubled reality that Chris lived. Not for any glorified reasons but rather for its honest, hopeful, and redemptive qualities. Chris was not perfect and neither am I. I have always felt like I could relate to him, though never knowing him, somewhat on that level. So when I found out that his SNL character Matt Foley was named after his college rugby buddy turned Catholic priest, Army Chaplin, and Afghanistan veteran, Father Matt Foley – and Fr. Matt lived an hour and a half away from me – I thought, I absolutely have to meet this man and talk about who he is, his friend Chris, their relationship, and their faith. T&M 24: D.A Wallach Musician/Investor

3/10/2017
To describe D.A Wallach in one word is impossible. One sentence? Near impossible. In one podcast? You be the judge. While attending Harvard University, D.A’s newly formed band, Chester French, made a bold decision … to stop playing shows. Instead, they got jobs at the university’s studio, learned the trade and made a record. This decision lead to a bidding war between Kanye West & Pharrell Williams, touring the world, a 2nd record, a cameo in the movie La La Land and his current passion, investing in the sciences. Above all of these accomplishments, what impressed Mike the most was how incredibly kind and enjoyable D.A is to be with. So, pull up the chair, put your thinking caps on and plug into this episode of Time & The Mystery: Conversations with D.A Wallach. T&M 11: Victor DeLorenzo- Dummer of Violent Femmes & 1913

8/30/2016
When Victor DeLorenzo began his artistic journey in Milwaukee, WI, it was to literally fill the shoes of budding actor Willem Dafoe. But when forming his band, The Violent Femmes, innovation, practicality, and mobility inspired Victor to forge new ground and develop the bare bones “bastardized” style of drumming that put he and the Femmes on the map. The result was iconic music that not only touched a nerve but grabbed it, and forced its devotion to a whole new style of music … Folk – Punk. T&M 10: Sean Moeller- Founder of Daytrotter

8/16/2016
In the early 2000s the music industry was changing rapidly. While most desperately clung to an old school model that was evaporating in their hands, Sean Moeller embraced the power of the web and created Daytrotter: a website platform showcasing recording sessions from his humble analog studio in Rock Island, IL. Being positioned between major markets, Sean began inviting touring bands to his studio to record during the day while passing through. A few agreed. Their sessions were stellar and word grew fast about this little island of rock in the sea of the touring highway. Soon, Daytrotter was hosting Mumford and Sons, Wilco, Bon Iver, The Avett Brothers, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, even Glen Campbell stopped by for a session. Daytrotter quickly became a notable tastemaker in the indie rock scene, an intentional stop for all touring artists and a shining example of how embracing change with a little innovation can make even the smallest of places a global player. I give you Time & The Mystery: Conversations with Sean Moeller.
