080 | Every Snowboarding Game

5/10/2024
Snowboarding was weirdly big in the '90s, wasn't it? For the big 80, the boys pay tribute to this forgotten genre by covering the most—and least—memorable titles that involve that most extreme of extreme sports, from the ones you know like SSX and Amped to oddities like Steep Slope Sliders and Evolution Snowboarding. Technically we don't talk about *every* snowboarding game in this almost two-hour pod, but this one might just set a Time Extend record for number of different games discussed. Even Final Fantasy VII gets a passing mention! For more between each podcast, follow @time_extend on Twitter, timeextend on TikTok and Twitch, and visit timeextend.carrd.co to join our Discord.

079 | Running Games

2/27/2024
The whole Time Extend crew—Adam, Brend, Andrew, and Paul—join forces to talk about the weird and very occasionally wonderful things that happen when games focus entirely around putting one foot in front of the other. From Sonic R to Mirror's Edge, this one's all about the surprising gameplay challenge of trying to steer fast moving bipedal characters. 078 | Rocket League, Rocket Racing

1/22/2024
The boys have returned from their long hiatus with news about future plans as well as a long overdue conversation about Rocket League and why it still keeps them coming back after eight-plus years. Naturally Rocket Racing is covered as well, which shows glimmers of potential even if it lacks the staying power of Psyonix's modern classic. 077 | The Heat Is Back/Forza Motorsport Preview

9/11/2023
We know, it's been a minute. But never before has Time Extend packed so much into one hour of a show. First, we chat about Daytona USA 2's about-damn-time console debut before diving into a retrospective on the divisive Dreamcast port. Then, we cap things off with hands-on preview impressions of the new Forza Motorsport fresh from an event hosted by Turn 10 Studios, a month before the game's release. 076 | Gran Turismo 4 Modding (with TheAdmiester)

6/16/2023
Gran Turismo 4's hailed as one of the racing genre's all-time greats. But almost 20 years since release, a culmination of discoveries have now allowed modders to take Polyphony's 2004 opus to new heights. In this episode the boys chat with TheAdmiester, developer of the Gran Turismo 4 Spec II mod and Prize Randomizer, about his efforts and what they've taught us all about The Real Driving Simulator. You can follow @TheAdmiester on Twitter. For more between each podcast, follow @time_extend on Twitter, timeextend on Twitch and visit timeextend.carrd.co to join our Discord.

075 | The Dirt Revolution

5/12/2023
2007's Colin McRae: Dirt didn't just reinvent Codemasters' rally games; it left an indelible mark on the genre, and became the benchmark to which every off-road racer was compared against. In this episode the boys revisit the original trilogy, discussing Dirt's continual evolution and improvement throughout the generation, and how the late, great Ken Block truly made the franchise his own. 074 | Rally De Prism

2/28/2023
In the late '90s, a short-lived developer named Prism Arts made a pair of budget Sega Rally clones for the PlayStation that never left Japan, and thus flew under the radar for a great many racing game fans. More than two decades later, the charm of Rally De Africa and Rally De Europe is no longer a secret, but we still know so little about them. In this episode, the boys reflect on these lesser-known gems of the era and attempt to uncover their mysterious origins. 073 | Your Hottest Racing Game Takes: 2023 Edition

1/21/2023
We're back, ringing in 2023's coldest days with some piping hot takes sourced from you all to keep us warm. Did Ridge Racer "celebrate itself to death?" Did kart racers really never get better than Diddy Kong Racing? And is every modern racing game the most reductive version of its franchise? Responses to these arguably controversial opinions and so much more lie ahead! 072 | NFS: The Underground Era

11/23/2022
With Need For Speed Unbound's release right around the corner, what better time than the present to finally dive into the series' big turn to tuner culture in the early aughts: Underground and Underground 2. Hugely controversial before release but quickly a runaway hit, EA Black Box's work on these titles defined NFS for a generation of fans. Us at Time Extend, though, have more complicated feelings. 071 | Hi-Spec Racing Gaming (with John Linneman and Andrew Elmore)

9/24/2022
We often talk about old games and old systems on Time Extend. But what are you to do if you want to — heaven forbid — actually play one of these golden era racers in the finest quality possible? Nobody can answer that question better than our guests this week: Digital Foundry's John Linneman, and designer and musician Andrew Elmore. In this monster two-hour pod, they walk you through everything you need to know to achieve an absolutely pristine experience with fifth- and sixth-gen consoles — the days when racing ruled. And if you don't want that for some reason, Brend's got tips for you, too. You can find John Linneman's work on the Digital Foundry YouTube channel, and follow him on Twitter @dark1x. Andrew Elmore's music lives at satellitesound.bandcamp.com, and you can follow him on Twitter @AndrewElmore. 070 | A Couple of Tourists (with Chris Lytle)

9/12/2022
More than 15 years since its release, it's still not uncommon to hear those who've played it praise Tourist Trophy as the finest two-wheeled racer of all time. For #70, the boys finally give the Gran Turismo spinoff its due, with the help of a special guest. We also discover a rare bit of sim racing gear that really deserved to change the hobby forever. 8/19/2022
In the era when street racing was king, no street racer was cooler than Midnight Club. The boys finally give Rockstar San Diego's beloved and dearly missed series its due, focusing on the innovative second act and the final entry, Midnight Club: Los Angeles. It's part tribute, part shameless jab at trying to will a sequel into existence. 068 | Kenneth Ibrahim: The Voice of Sega Rally

7/25/2022
If you have ever played Sega Rally Championship, you've undoubtedly heard Kenneth Ibrahim's voice before. Today, Kenneth is a Senior Pipeline Technical Director at Lucasfilm, working on Star Wars animated series. But almost 30 years ago, he served as your trusty co-driver in Tetsuya Mizuguchi's seminal arcade racing classic. Kenneth was gracious enough to join us for nearly two hours of incredible stories, charting his whirlwind start at Sega at the peak of the company's dominance, a career in computer graphics that sent him to Japan and back and, of course, how he wound up calling the shots in the Celica and Delta, much to his surprise. If you love Sega in the '90s, this is one you won't want to miss. Follow Kenneth Ibrahim on Twitter @twittiamo and watch his series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, on Disney+. 067 | Burnout Beyond Takedown

7/18/2022
In 2004, Criterion Games released what many consider the greatest arcade racing game ever made, Burnout 3: Takedown. That's not the game we're talking about this episode. Instead, we set out to explore the entries in the beloved series that tend to get passed over today — the ones that established the franchise's fundamentals, marked Criterion's first foray into portable gaming and served as a surprisingly good consolation prize for fans that couldn't make the trip to Paradise City. 066 | Sega GT 2002 (with ThunderTHR)

6/10/2022
After a dismal first entry on the Dreamcast, in 2002 Sega's Wow Entertainment surprised owners of Microsoft's then-new Xbox with a charming, beautiful Gran Turismo-like experience: Sega GT 2002. It was leaps and bounds superior to its predecessor, but has been historically passed over since its days as a pack-in alongside Jet Set Radio Future. In this episode, YouTuber ThunderTHR joins Adam for two full hours to give the game its due, talking about everything from hidden content restored by mods, to the curious, lost-to-time multiplayer modes of Sega GT Online. 065 | Choro Who?

4/25/2022
Maybe you know it as Penny Racers; maybe Road Trip Adventure. Even more likely, you don't know it at all. But there are nearly 30 games in the Choro Q series, spanning the 32-bit era to the early days of mobile gaming. In this episode, the boys finally give this friendly, at times frustrating franchise its due. You definitely shouldn't play all of them, but there are a few gems to be found in this bargain toy bin. 064 | Gran Turismo 7

3/14/2022
For the first time since this podcast began, we're talking about a new Gran Turismo. It's fortunate, then, that GT7 gives us so much to talk about. From shockingly challenging physics, to classic Polyphony game design oddities, to an impeccable presentation, the latest installment of The Real Driving Simulator has already proven pretty polarizing. And although we're big fans, we still hold our share of criticisms; looking at you, "Dr. Awesome." 1/27/2022
Our new year's resolution is to talk about more weird games, and you don't get much weirder than Runabout — Climax's strange action-driving franchise from the late '90s and early 2000s. Ancient relics of unimaginable power. Cows that sound like humans. Getting the hot dog. It's all here in this episode. 12/2/2021

If you've never played it before, now's the perfect time to start. Join us as we chat about how this curious genre-mashing JRPG has become one of our most exciting gaming experiences of the year and why it's such a refreshing change of pace from modern racers.
