Seven Trojans selected in the NFL Draft plus USC LB Easton Mascarenas-Arnold

4/30/2024
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio with Oregon State transfer linebacker Easton Mascarenas-Arnold joining the show. The veteran from Mission Viejo comes to USC after three years as a Beaver where he played in 37 games and had 107 tackles, 6.5 for loss with two sacks and pair of interceptions for OSU last season. The Trojans are desperately looking for production out of the linebacker spot and the addition of Mascarenas-Arnold should go a long way towards that goal. The guys chat with him about the decision to join Lincoln Riley, D'Anton Lynn and Matt Entz on this new-look USC defense, coming to Los Angeles with his brother Akili Arnold, how he felt he performed during the 15 spring football practices, what he wants to improve on and what his goals are for his senior season. After the interview Ryan and Connor recap how the Trojans did in the NFL Draft with the first overall pick being Caleb Williams and six more former USC football players being selected. With seven overall selections the Trojans had the most of any program to finish the 2023 season unranked, a dubious distinction that Riley and company will try and rectify in 2024. The interview with Easton Mascarenas-Arnold was conducted in conjunction with House of Victory, an alumni-backed nonprofit collective dedicated to providing a competitive edge in the NIL space for University of Southern California student-athletes. Reggie gets his Heisman back plus UCLA transfer safety Kamari Ramsey

4/24/2024
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio with UCLA transfer safety Kamari Ramsey joining the show. The talented redshirt sophomore started 11 games for the Bruins last season, recording 40 tackles including 2.5 for loss, 5 pass breakups and one interception. The 6-foot, 204 pound Ramsey brings good production and experience in new defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn's defensive system. The guys talk to Ramsey about his experience as a starting safety last season, working closely with Lynn, what went into his decision to transfer across town, how spring practice went for him and lots more. They also discuss the breaking news that Reggie Bush had his Heisman Trophy returned, giving USC 8 Heisman Trophies, the most of any program. After the interview Ryan and Connor recap USC's spring game from Saturday where the defense got the better of the offense including four interceptions including a 100-yard pick six. They discuss what they learned on both sides of the ball from watching the game and where they think Lincoln Riley needs to add talent to compete in the Big Ten next season. Dedeaux Download: First losing week since February is likely death knell to USC baseball's at-large hopes

4/23/2024
Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith return with another episode of the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down a five-game week for the Trojans that proved to be a big disappointment after the Trojans went 2-3 with a pair of losses to Sacramento State, falling to 0-4 against the WAC this season. They break down USC baseball's up-and-down week that did feature a blowout victory over a top 20 UC Irvine team and a late-inning rally from a 10-5 deficit to snag a victory. The Trojans' inconsistent week saw them go back and forth from a proficient offense that capitalized on extra opportunities given by opponents to one that reverted back to its early-season woes of too many strikeouts and inability to come through in the clutch. Shotgun and Jack break down all the action from the 2-3 week with each providing three things up, including Austin Overn and experimentation, as well as three negatives from the week, including a struggling Jacob Galloway and a gaudy win-loss record for Tyler Stromsborg. The podcasting duo also take a look at where USC stands, breaking down what has become a quagmire of seven teams within two and a half games of each other in the middle of the Pac-12 standings. They also look forward to the upcoming week of action that has the Trojans slated to play four road games against traditional powers that are no longer playing like perennial juggernauts, Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State. Coach Harvey Hyde gives his recap on the USC spring game in the Coliseum

4/22/2024
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together recapping USC's spring game that featured the defense getting the better of the offense by a score of 43-28 in a modified scoring system. With D'Anton Lynn at the helm, the new-look USC defense secured four interceptions including a 100-yard pick-six and three-straight drives ending in interceptions in the first half. Coach Hyde thought the Coliseum looked great on Saturday afternoon with beautiful weather, turf in pristine condition and everything looking perfect. When the game started he was happy to see the offense huddle up to get the plays in with helmet communication now allowed per NCAA rules. He wasn't as happy to see the game not feature live tackling and instead defenders would "thud" the offensive players instead of tackling them to the ground. Coach doesn't feel you can get a true game speed evaluation when there is no live tackling and you can't see if the tackling has improved at all because you just aren't running at a full speed pace like you would in a real game. Overall he felt the defense played more to defend the pass than the run since there was no tackling allowed and the offensive play calling was more skewed towards passing than running. The secondary and linebackers were able to play more coverage and so it makes it hard to evaluate their performance when they aren't as worried about coming up to support the run. Coach liked how the offensive line blocked in pass protection, but again it just wasn't a real life game situation when you aren't including the physicality of the run game. The secondary did stand out with four interceptions and coach loved how they were always around the football. It just looked like the players were better coached, not leaving guys wide open and forcing the offense to make contested catches. CLICK HERE for 50% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! They break down how USC was able to get a blowout win over No. 12 UC Irvine for its eighth win in nine games before going on the road to Eugene, Ore. to take on the No. 18 Ducks. After the visit with Overn, Shotgun and Jack preview a unique week for the Trojans as they will play five games against four different teams in six days, including a rematch with UC Irvine and a matchup with a San Diego team that ranks No. 30 in the RPI during the midweek before taking on a pair of Northern California programs that are tough, well-coached teams that could put a big dent in USC's NCAA tournament resume if the Trojans aren't able to take care of business. USC Triple-Double Podcast: Trojans hire Eric Musselman; Women of Troy fall shy of Final Four

4/5/2024
The USC Triple-Double Podcast returns with co-hosts Shotgun Spratling and Connor Morrissette (aka Mr. Triple Double) reacting to the breaking news of USC hiring Eric Musselman away from Arkansas to becoming the Trojans' new men's basketball head coach followed by a break down of the Women of Troy's season coming to a conclusion in an Elite Eight loss to UConn following a thrilling Sweet 16 victory over Baylor. Shotgun and Connor break down the good and the bad of the Musselman hire and discuss what it means about the current state of the USC men's basketball program and the trajectory going forward. They also look at the roster Musselman will inherit and where he'll have to make some big additions before the Trojans head into the Big Ten next season. After a short break, the podcasting duo break down the final weekend of play for the Women of Troy, who defeated Baylor 74-70 in the Sweet 16 to advance to their first Elite Eight since 1994. There the Trojans fell to Connecticut 80-73 despite 29 points and 10 rebounds for JuJu Watkins, who was elite except for a fourth-quarter stretch when she couldn't make a shot and UConn couldn't miss that ended up determining the game. When Watkins went cold, there was no one there to pick her up as USC's role players, who had been so good all season fulfilling their roles, weren't able to do so in the biggest matchup of the season. Coach Harvey Hyde on USC's off-season emphasis on defense and Andy Enfield leaving for SMU

4/1/2024
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the latest news and notes from USC football spring practices and on the basketball side with head coach Andy Enfield leaving for SMU and the USC women's basketball team making a run to the Elite 8 with a potential Final Four appearance on the line. The guys start off the show talking about the breaking news that Enfield was departing from USC and taking over the SMU basketball program, leaving a future Big Ten job for a future ACC job. Coach thinks that this move is good for both sides, with Enfield getting an opportunity to start fresh with a big contract and USC able to move on from someone who recruited at a higher level than he won and try to raise the basketball program to the next level. They also talk about the women's team where head coach Lindsay Gottlieb and star freshman Juju Watkins have advanced to the Elite 8 with a chance to take down UConn and go to the school's first Final Four since the 1980's. Coach thinks the women are catching fire and there is no reason why they can't get back to the glory days of the program where they were competing for national championships. The guys shift gears back to football, talking about the renewed emphasis on the defensive side of the ball from head coach Lincoln Riley. Coach Hyde likes the moves that have been made for the defensive staff and how the players, especially the defensive linemen, have transformed their bodies and even the push to recruit more highly ranked defensive prospects, but he wants to know why now? What changed? Hyde thinks that it is great Riley is getting more involved in the defense because as the head coach, it isn't the defensive coordinator's defense, it's yours. The head coach has to be a part of the entire program, not just the offense, and Coach Hyde loves that this is happening now for the Trojans. The days of just outscoring people are over, USC is going to try and stop some people as well. Better late than never. They also talk about a couple of offensive additions, with a commitment from three-star 2024 Tustin (Calif.) walk-on quarterback Jack Stupin and three-star running back from Southlake (Texas) Carroll Riley Wormley.
