More informationThe Athlone Community Radio service will facilitate the free flow of information and opinions on a host of topics as determined by a broad spectrum of programme makers and their listenership; it will provide access to training for staff and volunteers, and promote and give recognition to volunteerism; encourage local contribution and creativity; and provide programmes for the benefit, entertainment, education and development of it's listeners.
The benefits and impact of these outcomes will be a more informed, empowered and integrated community, more socially active and tolerant with a clearer sense of its social and cultural values.
Athlone Community Radio have secured a ten year broadcasting licence and shall be broadcasting to the people of Athlone on air at 88.4FM from Jan 14th 2011 and the internet for those further afield.
Our overall aim is to establish a Community radio station for the benefit of the community of Athlone, in line with the community ethos of the BAI licence and the AMARC charter.
Current objectives include finalising the required funding to establish the studio, training of an adequate number of volunteers and staff, establishing the station as a going concern, and developing the station to the highest professional standards in order to best serve the broad community of Athlone.
