The Inconvenient Truth About Friendship, the 90-Second Emotion Rule & More

12/2/2025
Amy and Kat kick off the episode with a feeling that might hit way too close to home: “I think I might need to cry.” Speaking of crying, science says that if you cry easily it might mean your brain is working better than you think. They break down findings on why people who tear up easily have faster processing, and how “emotion labeling” can calm your brain in just 90 seconds. They also talk about the inconvenient nature of friendships and relationships (including an airport pickup that went sideways with Amy’s boyfriend), what truly makes a bond healthy, and why mutual investment matters more than proximity or shared experiences. And with Christmas coming up, they close out with a reminder: there are things you absolutely don’t owe your family during the holidays. Get some Feeling Things merch by clicking HERE! What's God Got To Do With It?: Why Isn’t Prayer “Working”? Understanding When God’s Answer Is ‘Wait’ or ‘No’

11/29/2025
Today we’re diving deep into a topic that resonates with so many of us: why it sometimes feels like our prayers are going unanswered. Have you ever found yourself pleading with God, pouring out your heart for a breakthrough or a change, only to be met with silence? Maybe you’re asking for healing, clarity, or relief from a burden, but despite your faith and persistence, nothing seems to shift. We’ll explore what it truly means when God’s response is “Wait” or even “No,” and how these answers are not signs of indifference, but rather expressions of His love and wisdom. Through stories of real-life challengesfrom Leanne and her clients, we’ll uncover how God’s timing and decisions often lead to outcomes far greater than we can envision. And while waiting or facing rejection can feel painful and confusing, there is a deeper trust and peace available when we lean into His plan. Join us as we break down the steps to find hope and faith during those seasons of waiting and learn to see God’s “No” as a powerful redirection rather than rejection. Because even in His silence, He is working—moving on your behalf in ways you can’t yet see. A Viral Thanksgiving Game, The Leggings Revelation That’s a Total Game Changer & More (Couch Talks)

11/27/2025
Amy and Kat kick things off with a viral Thanksgiving game idea they saw going viral. They would like to work-shop the game a little, so maybe you have an idea on how to make the game more mysterious. They share two emails. One from a listener, Amy, asking about why we have to give the therapy disclaimer at the start of couch talks episodes and how Kat changed her life after sharing she doesn’t wear underwear with her leggings. The second email is from ‘E in Boston’ and she is curious on thoughts on a vanity license plate idea that gives a nod to our show closing “have the day you need to have.” And don’t miss Stevenson’s upcoming 10-mile run this Saturday, 11/29, to raise funds for a special Christmas for the kids at the Haitian orphanage he once lived in. You can support his run by pledging a donation per mile…every dollar counts!! All funds go directly to the orphanage through TEEMHaiti (a 501c3) and you can donate through their Venmo or PayPal. Stop Saying “Let Me Know What You Need”: Say This Instead

11/25/2025
Amy and Kat show up feeling annoyed, scared, excited, and grateful. A text from Kat’s mom sends her spiraling, Amy’s bracing for something big that’s about to happen, and somehow they end up debating whether it’s a “dopp” or a “doc” kit. They also unpack why “Let me know what you need” can backfire and share helpful things to say instead when someone’s struggling. Then they dig into the truth behind your excuses (spoiler: they’re just fears in fancy outfits), plus a random deep dive on foods that might make you smell better…and worse. What's God Got To Do With It?: "How do I know if I’m hearing God’s voice or just my own thoughts?"

11/23/2025
Have you ever wondered if the voice in your head is God speaking—or just your own thoughts, emotions, or fears? If so, you’re not alone. In this episode of Ask The God Pod, Leanne tackles a powerful listener question: How do I know if I’m really hearing God? She breaks down why this can be so tricky, how to discern between God’s voice and our own internal noise, and the key steps to confidently recognizing His guidance. You’ll learn how to test what you’re hearing against Scripture, recognize the difference between divine peace and anxious urgency, and why waiting in prayer can bring clarity. Plus, Leanne shares practical steps—like seeking wise counsel and paying attention to what draws you closer to God—so you can trust His leading with confidence. If you’ve ever second-guessed yourself when making a decision, this episode will help you navigate those moments with faith, wisdom, and a whole lot of grace. Write Your Story: How to Know If Your Book Is Worth Writing

11/22/2025
If you’ve ever considered writing a book, you’ve also probably asked yourself this common question: is my idea any good? Is the story or topic I want to write about interesting to anyone other than me? There are many ways to answer this question and unfortunately, how you answer might determine whether or not you write your book. Imagine if the author of your favorite book had decided, before ever writing, that their book idea was “no good”. In today’s episode, I’ll teach you how to answer this question for yourself and talk about the common pitfalls aspiring writers fall into. Hopefully I inspire you to give your book idea some space to develop into what it was meant to be. (PS) As I mention in the episode, I’m bringing back my signature course A Book in Six Months as a self-paced workshop and offering a generous discount for loyal listeners starting Friday November 28th. Write Your Story: Why Story Outweighs Advice Every Single Time

11/16/2025
We hesitate to tell our stories for a thousand reasons. It’s vulnerable, for starters, and we hate the feeling of giving others power over us. We decide ahead of time that our story isn’t that interesting, that nobody else would care besides us, and that our situation is 100% unique to our experience. But what if wisdom is buried inside of your personal story? What if keeping your story secret is hiding that wisdom, even from you? Today’s episode explores this topic and encourages you to take a single step to unpack the miracle that is your personal story. Saturn and Neptune are Retrograde in Pisces, bringing a period of deep introspection—and potential emotional pitfalls. The energy feels foggy, exhaustive, and heavy, putting our defenses to the test. Kat’s Creating Joy & Amy’s Revisiting Old Wounds

11/11/2025
Amy and Kat are both feeling merry this week!! Kat because she just had the staycation of her dreams and she’s already decorated for Christmas (she’s in a season of creating as much joy as possible)! And Amy’s feeling merry because, well, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! However, she had some anxiety pop up around something she thought she’d worked through, so she shares about those feelings as well. Kat reminds her that healing isn’t about being “done” with a feeling…it’s about knowing how to move through it now. When familiar feelings show up again, it doesn’t mean you’re back at the beginning. It’s just a new moment to practice showing up differently…with more awareness, more tools, and more kindness for yourself. Also in this episode: a cozy stovetop simmer recipe (see below!), the move to make out of a second story should there be a fire (random, but helpful), and a thoughtful email from new listener Dave, who shares how burnout shifted his relationship with work and a reminder to actually communicate needs in a relationship…men aren’t mind readers. Smells Like Christmas: A Cozy Simmer Pot Recipe 1 large orange, sliced 3–4 cinnamon sticks 1 cup fresh cranberries 1 tablespoon whole cloves 2–3 sprigs of fresh rosemary (or a handful of pine needles if you’re feeling extra festive) Water to fill the pot How To: Combine everything in a medium pot. Fill with water until ingredients are just covered (leave about an inch from the top). Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Reduce to low and let it quietly bubble away (uncovered) as long as you’d like. Keep an eye on it and add more water as needed so it doesn’t dry out. Pro tip…you can reuse the same pot a few times! Just pop it in the fridge overnight and add fresh water before reheating. This little ritual makes your whole house smell like orange, cinnamon, and nostalgia. It’s one of those small, sensory things that makes the holidays feel like the holidays. Get some Feeling Things merch by clicking HERE! What's God Got To Do With It?: "How Do I Handle Relationships That Pull Me Away from My Faith?"

11/11/2025
What do you do when the people in your life don’t share your faith—or worse, when they actively pull you away from it? A listener sent in this tough but common question, and today, we’re diving deep into how to navigate relationships while staying strong in your walk with God. Maybe it’s friends who don’t respect your beliefs, family members who challenge your faith, or even a romantic relationship that’s making you feel distant from God. So, how do you love people well without compromising your faith? In this episode, we’ll break down what the Bible says about relationships and influence, how to set boundaries without being judgmental, and how to know when it’s time to step back. Plus, we’ll talk about how your life—not just your words—is your loudest testimony. If you’ve ever struggled with balancing faith and relationships, this conversation will equip you with wisdom, encouragement, and practical steps to protect your faith while still loving those around you. What's God Got To Do With It?: "Why Do I Keep Repeating the Same Mistakes, Even When I Pray for Change?"

11/9/2025
You pray for change, you genuinely want to do better, and yet… you find yourself stuck in the same old habits. Sound familiar? In today’s episode, we answer a listener’s question about why breaking free from repetitive struggles feels so hard—even when we’re actively seeking God’s help. Whether it’s self-sabotage, toxic relationships, negative self-talk, or cycles of fear and doubt, we’ll unpack the three key reasons why we keep repeating patterns: how our brains crave familiarity, how subconscious beliefs shape our actions, and how spiritual battles keep us stuck. But here’s the truth: You are not broken. You are not beyond hope. And this cycle doesn’t have to define you. We’ll dive into how Romans 12:2 shows us that real transformation happens through the renewing of our minds, how neuroscience confirms that change is possible, and how the Holy Spirit empowers us beyond sheer willpower. If you’re tired of feeling stuck and want real, lasting change, this episode will give you the tools—and the encouragement—to step into true freedom. Write Your Story: How Radical Honesty Makes You Unstoppable

11/8/2025
When someone asks, “how are you doing?” Do you smile and say “I’m fine”? Or do you tell the truth? You might have a thousand reasons for holding back your truth in the face of a relatively benign question like “how are you doing?” — some of which may even be justified. But I suppose a better question is: do you know what is true for you? Are you in touch with your own truth? Are you able to share it with at least one trusted person? And have you considered the power and possibility of sharing your truth more broadly? This is what I’m exploring in today's episode. No matter how impossible it might seem to tell the truth — no matter who you think it might hurt or what you worry would unravel, the old maxim is right: only really the truth can set you free.
