Episode 75: I've Got the Wipes (Guest: Marcus Lawrence)

2/19/2024
A humdinger of an episode featuring a truly multiskilled guy. In our seventy-fifth episode, Jay, Becca and Tice are entertained by actor and trainer Marcus Lawrence. He tells us about Capitol Fringe shows with Jay, singing metal in Grethor, developing his character for In the Next Room (The Vibrator Play), doing nude scenes, fitness training for theater, being a sports freak in the theatre world, and his and Jay's shared love of Arnold Schwarzenegger. And there's so many more things-- you'll just have to listen to the episode.

Episode 74: Otakon? More like Odor-Con, amirite?

12/31/2023
Come back with us to September 2023 when Tice, Jay, and Becca took stock of their summer adventures. Jay is riding high in his new Jeep and getting in touch with Jeep culture through the extremely wholesome phenomenon of "ducking". Tice is taking his first shots at stand-up paddleboarding, re-assessing his gym goals and STILL taking tentative looks at yoga (through sketchy online ads). And Becca remembers some of the hiccups from her adventures at Otakon with friend of the pod Ahryel Tinker, sharing tips for anyone going to a summer convention along the way. Also in this episode, Tice also gets ducked, but in a different way (at a Popeye's!), Becca is planning her next tattoo, and Tice asks Jay to redo the opening, which ends in mass confusion.

Episode 73: Touching Hearts and Eating Brains (Guest: Erin Gallalee)

11/4/2023
In this episode, our guest Erin Gallalee shares with Jay, Becca and Tice her advice about doing research about your character and the advantages of being a character actor and not putting yourself in a box. Then she delights us with stories about Jay making her laugh uncontrollably while watching him in The Elephant Man, the audience laughing inappropriately at her performance in Dangerous Liaisons, many ways of screaming "Victor!!!" in Frankenstein, and we cannot forget "Your Mother's Butt"! Later on, Jay turns the tables on Tice and Becca in Family Feud...can Tice help Erin win the big prize, and will Becca put up with it?

She tells stories about her history in musical theatre and experimental theatre, studying theatre and performing at Syracuse and abroad in London, trying to do "the New York thing" and getting a job with Oxygen TV, and her thoughts on the current state of community theatre. Of course, she gives us some insight into her experience playing Violet Newstead in "9 to 5" as well as Pennywise in a recent production of "Urinetown"...and she reveals from personal experience, that yes, colleges do sometimes send rejection letters in error. Also, Becca has a new tattoo, Jay has decided Tice is "sexually active in the community" for some reason, and...True Confessions!

Episode 71: Dilbert Kicked Us in the Balls

7/31/2023
Our seventy-first episode begins with Becca considering a small cat tattoo and Jay trying to talk her into a big one. Tice mulls over getting a tat but wonders about the cost; Jay serves up info. Job-hunting Jay then shares a video of tips (from Bryan Creely of A Life After Layoff) on how to maximize your results from LinkedIn, with everyone weighing in with reactions. After that, Tice takes us down the Dilbert-hole with much more than you wanted to know about creator Scott Adams and reasons why the comic strip has been permanently pulled from most newspapers. To give you a little taste, some of the terms that come up are "manosphere", "sock puppetry", "beta-cuck", "sheeple", and "Dilber-ito". Finally, Tice tries to hold on to his title of "Stripper" in a round of comics history trivia!

EPISODE [close your eyes and] SIXTY-NINE (Guest: Joey Olson)

5/22/2023
An episode we've been waiting for (and honestly, had to re-start) with guest Joey Olson! Joey is president of the Reston Community Players, and he has appeared in such shows as "9 to 5", "Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Bright Star", and most recently "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" along with our own Becca Harney! Besides telling us about his illustrious theatre career, Joey also talks about his recent near-death experience, lets Tice and Jay know where they rank on the Bear/Cub/Otter continuum, ponders banging the Beast, and makes this an episode to remember in many other ways. Stick around to hear a history-making Between Two Butts (not Family Feud) Fast Money at the end of Episode 69... you'll flip!

Episode 68: Pluggers Got Better?

4/24/2023
Between 2 Butts is between guests so Jay, Becca, and Tice are choosing discussion topics at will. Becca muses over losing her credit card virginity. Tice leaves the subject of the Un-"Dilbert"ing on the table and instead decides to keep trying to make fun of "Pluggers", which allows Becca to bring up numerous family anecdotes. Jay declares his intention to grow and nurture his beard, bringing along a few tips from YouTube. Building on that, we finish off with a Beard Trivia battle, including historical notes! Episode 67: Tina Fey, $2, and a Chapstick (Guest: Stefan Sittig)

3/26/2023
On this Between Two Butts, Tice, Jay, and Becca are joined by director and choreographer Stefan Sittig, whose recent work includes Urinetown and The Mystery of Edwin Drood at the Workhouse Arts Center, as well as Man of La Mancha, Xanadu, and many others. Stefan fills us in on his journey from DC to South America to Charlottesville and Richmond and once again to DC...including how growing up steeped in samba in Brazil affected his style of choreography, how being at UVA at the same time as Tina Fey made him not able to read "Bossypants", and his current adventures in podcasting, directing and choreography. This last topic is the theme of our final game, where Jay plays Cupid for an increasingly flirtatious Stefan and puts a date with Tice on the line. Episode 66: Did Fuzzy Wuzzy Have a Pair?

2/23/2023
After a long rest, here's an episode with just little ol' us, and although some big things have happened, nothing much has changed. Jay continues to ask newlywed Becca about her married-name status and test the boundaries of what first names Becca accepts. Nothing has changed. Jay shares his newfound love of Babymetal (see links below), Becca talks The Last of Us, and Tice reveals to the group one of his Twitter follows: Nick Adams (Alpha Male), who, at the time of the recording, was very very mad about a cartoon bear and some pants. Then, as if to prove we aren't a bunch of beta-bears, we go toe to toe in Jay's test of metal trivia. Babymetal: Headbanger Babymetal: Catch Me If You Can Nick Adams (Alpha Male)

Episode 65: No Batman!! (Guest: Jasmine Michelle)

1/16/2023
The Between 2 Butts crew is all a-flutter because Becca's about to get married to her beloved (and often-mentioned on the podcast) Bryan. Jay plays around with Becca's possible new name and edits everyone's middle names to suit his liking, insulting Tice when he forgets that Tice already IS his middle name. We are then joined by guest Jasmine Michelle: actor, writer, cosplayer, and more, who started her theatre journey as an audience volunteer during a travelling production of "Stomp!". From that, she went on to a production of the intense witchy story "Reunion on Gallows Hill" in high school, and later became the "theatre mom" in her crew of friends at NoVa. She also tells us about directing a play she wrote herself, acting in "Man of La Mancha", "Murder on the Nile", and "Sherlock Holmes & the West End Horror". In addition, she talks about her own writing in a genre a friend dubbed "murder fiction", fed by a love of Agathe Christie and Edgar Allen Poe, and her experiences in cosplay, including her love of characters with red hair and her subsequent discovery of an allergy to synthetic wigs. What follows is perhaps our most-contentious-ever round of Family Feud Fast Money, in which Tice rules (in a moment that sadly did not become the episode title) that "the tits are not the lips".

Episode 64: Space Famous (Guest: Pam Sabella)

12/12/2022
In an episode that could have been titled "Slawin' Down", "Hobo: Origins", or "Uranus Spins Backwards", Jay, Becca and Tice talk with actor and space expert Pam Sabella about her theatre, TV and film experiences both locally and in LA, including her middle school theatre teacher almost talking her out of acting (and later eating her words), doing Shakespeare without knowing what it all means, playing Mary Warren in The Crucible, and surviving as an actor in LA, including doing audience work on "Let's Make a Deal". But multi-faceted Pam is also a connoisseur of things space-related, and so the conversation includes rocket parts, Mars colonization, Elon Musk, the sounds of black holes, life in space, and whether they would rather watch game shows than us. Then we go all go to nose-to-nose in a round of Space Trivia!

Episode 63: In Which Jay Stabs a Pillow (Guest: Dave Rockwell)

11/6/2022
After we open with some final(?) laughs at the expense of Becca's surname before her wedding, we greet Jay's and Tice's former improv teacher, as well as Dungeon Master and podcast host Dave Rockwell! Dave takes us through his introduction in elementary school to Dungeons and Dragons, his introduction to improv via ComedySportz, his return to D&D after a 25-year hiatus following the demise of DC ComedySportz, and the launch of his D&D podcast (Leaders N Legacies) when Covid forced us all to hunker down at home. After we chat with Dave about improv, D&D, and what they have in common (a lot), Dave puts on his D.M. hat and leads us through a mini-campaign in which Jay imagines himself as a fusion between Keanu Reeves and The Mountain from Game of Thrones, and I imagine myself as a wizard Abe Vigoda as we seek shelter in a very crowded inn.

Episode 62: JAY has range!! BECCA has range!! TICE will only ever be a sex symbol.

9/14/2022
It's a casual no-guests episode! Tice and Jay exchange loving beard compliments and, as we are approaching the date of Becca's nuptials we talk about nebulous wedding dress codes, and dress-pant sweatpants. Becca and Jay reflect on their recent performances in The Sound of Music (as the Baroness and Captain von Trapp) and their character choices-- how the Baroness is NOT just a bitch, how Jay got to show some range and explore the Captain's psychology, and...IS there a secret throuple in the Von Trapp mansion? Then Jay makes a tribute to co-star and professional opera singer Kelly Glyptis with a very metal take on "Phantom of the Opera", aaaaand we conclude our 6-part series in reaction to "Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared", at least until it starts its new series on BBC-4. To conclude we play an improv game Tice made up before the podcast, called "Back to One". DO NOT WEAR SWEATPANTS WHILE LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE! Becca expects better. Episode 61: Pulling Back the Curtain (Tice episode!)

8/22/2022
It's an unusual Between Two Butts, in which Jay and Becca turn the spotlight on producer-of-few-words Tice Rust! We find out about his name origin, his start in improv, his forays into stage acting, his job history (including DC's very fancy Willard Hotel), and even some discussion of lumbersexuality. But this is the podcast you know and love, so we also have talk of matrimonial tandem toilets and a cautionary restroom story from Jay about feet under the stalls. Plus, an awkward error in Becca's wedding programs! Parents forbidding the Simpsons but not Ren & Stimpy! And everybody taking a turn guessing previous jobs as in the classic gameshow "What's My Line?"

Episode 60: Mama Baritone (Guest: Laura Mills)

7/25/2022
It's big episode Six-O! As we push into the sixties, Jay, Becca and Tice hang out with actor/musician Laura Mills, the Lucy to Jay's Snoopy, and maybe even a voice you have heard on the phone without knowing it. During this episode, Laura shares tons of glorious info with us, including her experiences playing Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, Doralee in 9 to 5, and moms in so many productions from her youth. She also gives us the story of her meeting and courtship with her husband, her voice changing when she really did become a mom, transitioning into songwriting, and her work in local elections and mental health. In this episode you can hear "We are Virginia", Laura's tribute to Virginia Tech from the aftermath of 2007 shooting along with the story behind its creation. And in addition to all that, Laura drops a bombshell on Jay when she reveals she has recorded voiceovers for automated phone menus, which leads to her giving us a brief course in different styles of pleasant robotic voices. To cap it all off, we play an intensely competitive game of Musical Theatre Trivia, with everyone making their own custom ring-in noises! Buck-KAW!! P.S. Laura wants you to vote! So do we! Go here if you need help getting started!

Episode 59: A Sprinkle of Zhoosh (Guest: Lizzy Pasta)

6/27/2022
Tice, Becca and Jay have a chat with one of the inspirations for this very podcast, a performer of many talents, Liz Colandene, aka Lizzy Pasta! Liz is the performing arts coordinator at the Workhouse Arts Center in Northern Virginia, an actor, musician, visual artist, and host of the Workhouse's Chat & Sip video series. In this episode, Liz talks about how she got named Lizzy Pasta, her performances in Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror, and Anne of Green Gables, playing bassoon and contrabassoon, and being proposed to onstage during a curtain call. Meanwhile, Jay is dealing with laryngitis, Becca is dealing with invading hornets, and Tice is helpfully suggesting new pasta-themed nicknames for Liz. It all comes to a head as the gang plays Pyramid. Will Liz out-perform the home team on their home turf? Listen and find out! Check out Lizzy's art on Instagram, and her Twitter feed. 5/9/2022
Becca, Tice and Jay welcome an old-improv-buddy-turned-New-York-actor Shravan Amin, whose career now includes shadowy gigs with limousines and non-disclosure agreements. Join us as we remember his origins as a dance recital DJ, his beginnings in improv, his first theatre roles, and his move to New York. Along the way, we touch on the improv game Freeze, why Shrave loves doing Shakespeare, and resume hacks. Also in this episode, excitement builds for Becca's upcoming nuptials and Jay tries to insinuate unwholesome things about the handfasting ceremony. Also also in this episode is a chat with another guest, a super-villain known as the Truth-Seeker, who isn't above torture and is generally quite testy. We also have a running discussion in this episode about whether Jay and Ahryel are close enough in age to flirt without it being creepy. You be the judge.
