News: The past couple of weeks, we had been seeing reports that MagicBands were becoming more and more difficult to purchase at the Disneyland Resort. Officials have now confirmed that Disneyland is ending on-property sales of MagicBand˖ Existing interactive features, like Batuu Bounty Hunters, will remain functional for current owners, however no new shipments are expected once stock sells out at the few remaining retail locations. This change is exclusive to Disneyland Resort, as MagicBand+ will continue to be supported and sold at Walt Disney World, on Disney Cruise Line, and via the Disney Store online. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/magicband-plus-disneyland-phase-out/ Star Wars fans can now head to the Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney to create their own custom Galactic ID badges. News: The line “please pull on the yellow tab” may be headed to Yesterland. Disney has filed a new patent for a system that could help improve ride load and dispatch times. News: A popular attraction in Disney California Adventure is moving towards extinction. Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue! has had a permit filed with the city of Anaheim for demolition. In addition to the attraction, the Hollywood Lounge beverage stand is also included in the demolition permit. On April 29th, Batuu will welcome original trilogy characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solor, and Leia Organa. This has been a long time request from guests who want to interact with characters from across the trilogy in the Star Wars themed land. There is some criticism that the characters are not close enough to their appearance in the films, but we will have to wait and see. MyDisney Wallet has been added to the account settings where you can add your credit or debit card for payments. News: Some more seating has been added to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. The former FastPass distribution area has been converted into a seating area, with covered tables, and themed elements making it fit right in with the theming of the area. The company is planning on cutting up to 1,000 jobs, mostly in the marketing division, which was recently consolidated. The DescenDANCE Party was also back, along with favorite Disney Channel characters including Tale Spin, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and more. Penny Proud, from The Proud Family was new this year. Also new this year was an exhibit at the Starcade in Tomorrowland that featured Disney Channel artifacts from the Walt Disney Archives. On August 8th, the Walt Disney Archives new exhibit will open, on August 11th, D23 Night at the Anaheim Packing District returns, August 12th is D23 Night at Angel Stadium, and August 13th is D23 Day at Disneyland. The hospital has a new name – Rady Children’s Health, but the event is still the CHOC Walk. The event supports pediatric specialty care, research and innovation, family support services, and education for future healthcare providers. Later, players traveled down Main Street for a Cavalcade. News: On March 22, a beloved character from down under will debut a new show at Disneyland. “Bluey’s Best Day Ever!” at the Fantasyland Theatre will celebrate the heart and humor of Bluey. The theater will be transformed into Bluey’s school where Bluey and Bingo will appear on stage at set times throughout the day, with two unique shows. A group of comedic performers and musicians will join them to bring to life popular board games, music, and dances. Chattermax, Unicorse, and a troupe of Grannies will also make appearances. News: The President of the Disneyland Resort Thomas Mazloum held some strategy sessions with outlets like MiceChat about upcoming changes and what is going on around the resort. This was an opportunity to talk directly to the fan base about decisions, and give a glimpse of what is coming. One of the items was the reservation system at Disneyland. It is not going anywhere for the moment as it helps the resort better manage attendance patterns and staffing. However, the 11am park hopping restriction will be going away soon. Ride reliability is also being addressed. Maintenance windows are expanding, work is being made on supply chains, and downtime is being examined and addressed. About 60% of the current cast was hired after the 2020 closures. Training was shortened, Traditions, the training session for new cast, was also simplified and made partially virtual. Leadership is going through retraining, identifying issues and clarifying expectations. News: This February, Disney California Adventure will turn 25! To celebrate this milestone, Magic Key holders can pick up a magnet set commemorating the event. This will be part of a “Fun and Sun” event area that offers nostalgic photo opportunities, encounters with “familiar friends,” and more. News: The newest Disneyland documentary we are all waiting for has a release date. Disneyland Handcrafted will premiere on Disney+ and Disney YouTube on January 22nd. The film covers the creation of Disneyland with rare, first-hand archival footage leading up to the opening in July, 1955. The permit is for a 3.2 million square foot, 8-level open parking structure with 302 EV charging spots. New electronic signs have debuted that give guests directions on where to go to get to certain locations in the park. Inside of Sarge’s Surplus Hut, there is a display with a red mailbox. At this mailbox, you can write a letter to Santa Car. The video showed off a model of the classic attraction in the park, in front of the full-sized attraction. The video goes on to show the creation of the miniature, which features 120 individual bushes, trees, and shrubs, and took over 200 hours to create. Construction walls have gone up and encircle the ticket booths on the Disney California Adventure side of the west esplanade. This is a great sign of progress. The old Tortilla Jo’s location, which has been sitting stagnant since demo finished in the summer, is still happening, but waiting on permits with the city to continue.
