Johar from the AKHRA Ranchi team! We want to inform you about our audio and video series "Gram Sabha Ki Kahani" which will showcase how the villages of Jharkhand, India have changed after they understood the power and importance of Gram Sabha. As we all know that special rights have been given to the people in the Fifth Schedule areas of India, in which Gram Sabha has been considered paramount. That is, the Gram Sabha has the right to make decisions for the social and economic development of the village. Under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, the Panchayati Law was expanded to strengthen the Panchayat and the local self-government system wherein the role of the Gram Sabha is pivotal. But awareness about the significance of the Gram Sabha has not reached the grassroots level, due to which many tribal villages of India are still backward. In the year 2018, with the support of the Azim Premji Foundation, we started visiting many villages in India, especially in the Fifth Schedule areas, to educate the people about the Gram Sabha and the local self-government system. The outcome of this has been so far positive. This series 'Gram Sabha Ki Kahani' is a 'Gram Swasashan Abhiyan' initiative, developed by Akhra Ranchi and supported by the Azim Premji Foundation.
