This week we are Kush Chatting with one of the stars of A&E’s hit reality series 60 Days In Abner Garcia who grew up in New York City surrounded by poverty and crime. From a young age, he understood the dynamics of the streets and ultimately found his identity there. After joining a gang as a teenager, Abner started down a path of crime that he regrets to this day. Abner’s previous crimes landed him in prison on numerous occasions. The last time he was incarcerated, while serving time in solitary confinement, he was given a Bible by a correctional officer—a gesture that changed his life forever. Ending his relationship with the gang and following the path of Christ led Abner to where he is today: a leader in his community doing work he is proud of. Now a State Chaplain, minister and regular Red Cross volunteer, Abner has had a clean record for over a decade. He works tirelessly to repay the debt he feels he owes to society—spreading the word of God and sharing his story to help others believe that any transformation is possible through faith. Abner is the author of his first book called “The Pastor’s Son” where he shares in detail his personal journey from birth to date. The book led to his transformational story being featured on The 700 Club television show. After the feature on The 700 Club, Abner was sought out by producers from A&E Network to feature him as a leading reality TV role on the hit show “60 Days In”. Where Abner was tasked by Sheriff Lamb from Pinal County Jail in Arizona to evaluate the gang presence within the facility. Abner demonstrated his confidence and ability to embed and quickly pick up on the gang dynamics within. Abner used his past to not only help the facility, but also to inspire others who mirror the younger version of himself to turn their lives around too.

On this weeks episode I’m Kush Chatting with Lead Singer Crystalla Gonzalez & Lead Guitarist Gabriel Castellar of the band No Grudges who since their time in high school have not only been songwriting partners but partners in real life. In 2011, they started their first band together which led them to be able to perform in NYC’s top venues such as Irving Plaza, Gramercy Theater, Webster Hall, and even the infamous, iHeart Radio Theater. They also participated in both CMJ and CBGB festivals along with opening up for Bad Brains legendary singer, HR. In the beginning of 2020, Gabriel and Crystalla decided to move forward with the name, No Grudges. They felt the name vibed with their new sound and philosophy. No Grudges sound is a heavier Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Paramore. They look forward to releasing their debut EP in the spring of this year. So let’s get ready to rock & roll with No Grudges!

This week we are Kush Chatting with Marilyn Le who was born as a “miracle baby” when her (at the time) 60 year old father and 50 year old mother had her despite doctors insisting against it. Throughout her life she’s always wanted to pursue music but couldn’t due to financial restraints - her parents needed her to get a “real” job to help them. She went to college and studied science, on track to finish her PhD and marry a nice man - but then she woke up one day and decided she didn’t want any of that. Sometime later, she sold everything she had and lived out of her car while she traveled around the US trying to “find herself.” She planned to travel the world but then the pandemic hit. That’s when she decided she needed to put her energy into something she cared about, which was music. She is just getting started and excited to see where things go!
