Late Nights at Blockbuster We are celebrating the 15th anniversary of X-men: First Class this week. We gush over the direction, the way that it has aged, and all the actors (all but one). There are a couple of big plot holes/quibbles even though this is a comic book movie and we are already suspending our disbelief. Everyone breaks out as a a star after this movie so our acting categories was a little lengthy. Late Nights at Blockbuster Top Gun We’ve got the need…the need for quoting lots of movie lines and driving a little faster when Danger Zone starts playing. Because the pattern is finally clear and so we’re coming in for much more than just a fly by as we dive deep into the 80s classic Top Gun. Byers sets a new record for times he tries to combine acting categories or make up new ones, and Troy actually contains himself on the scenes and quotes…no really we promise this is him containing himself when it comes to this movie. And eventhough Byers is not the biggest fan of this one, everything is still all good here on the Phileo Podcast, no one here has lost that loving feeling. For all that we love about this movie we've got a few bones to pick with whoever edited this movie and some of the story choices leave a little to be desired. However, there is a ton of our favorite scenes, lines, and action moments as this is one of our favorite Marvel movies. We are proud of ourselves for not turning it into a full Daniel Bruhl and Chadwick Boseman appreciation podcast. Laurie comes out of retirement for her favorite book and movie, lending some feminine sensibilities to the proceedings. She can’t wait to talk about Colin Firth, even though he isn’t in this movie, and compare the Bennett’s to her own family. Laurie schools us on the subtlety of the Darcy “hand flexing” and we spend the rest of the episode making fun of it. We had a lot of the same people in our acting categories but in a lot of different places.
