Wainstead All Night

Arts & Culture Podcasts

A free-form style show that aired on WCSB (Cleveland State University) during the safe harbor hours. Steve Wainstead hosted Wainstead All Night (W.A.N.), a entertaining show that was driven by some crazy callers during the early morning hours. These shows took place in the late 80's / early 90's long before people knew what the internet was. This was a time when all the callers used land line phones and listened on an actual radio and not over the internet. Radio was a huge way to stay in contact with people and keep up with the news. The callers came in all varieties, drunk, obnoxious, belligerent, nice, stupid, smart, black and white. They all came together to listen to a show that entertained them and gave them a sense of belonging. His reading of the crime blotter from a local SUN journal newspaper became a regular segment on his show. Every time I hear 'Watermelon In Easter Hay" by Frank Zappa, I think of W.A.N. Oh, and lets not forget Brainwash. Without the collection of regular callers, this show would have never been possible. Steve, if you ever see this, please contact me, would love to add more shows!
