Creative Black Resistance (with Alvin Hall)

2/19/2021
What was it like to travel in an era where there were little “Black Wall Streets'' all over the U.S. in the midst of dangerous Jim Crow laws? Alvin Hall, award-winning television and radio broadcaster, best-selling author, and renowned financial educator, transports us into that historic realm. His podcast, Driving the Green Book, guides listeners along his road trip with Janee Wood Weber to the historically Black towns and destinations featured in the Negro Motorist’s Green Book, published from 1936-1967. Noami and season 1 co-host Anaïs Moniq explore the nuances of navigating life on the road during a pandemic, holding solidarity with the Asian-American community and how the Green Book paved the way for Diversify Vanlife to become a living resource for nomads of color. Reimagining Environmentalism (with Leah Thomas)

1/22/2021
Leah Thomas is an intersectional environmental activist on a mission to dismantle systems of oppression in the environmental movement. Her personal platform @greengirlleah was born out of a space that lacked representation of Black people in the outdoors and spoke to her passion of getting people started on their environmental justice journey. Her quest for self-authenticity, environmental justice and sustainability created the momentum for her educational page, @intersectionalenvironmentalist, to go viral. In this episode, Leah drops gem after gem: how de-stigmatizing cannabis use for Black and Brown people relates to the environmental movement; how making our environmental efforts inclusive and intersectional benefits everyone; and how expanding our understanding of Indigenous land protectors makes our environmental impact more effective. Hottie, their renovated vintage RV, is now home to Bree and their two giant dogs. Aside from imagining a world without white supremacy, they fill their time with hiking, photography, writing, and documenting their journey on the road. The Pilot

10/23/2020
This heavy year has brought host Noami Grevemberg and season 1 co-host Anaïs Monique incredible growth, with insightful breakthroughs, profound solidarity and an expanding BIPOC nomadic community. This year has also brought us to tears with violence, microaggressions and burn-out. In our pilot episode, Noami and Anaïs sit down and get real with each other like never before. Noami, a former coastal biologist, and Anaïs, a former flight attendant, explore how nomadism has affected their sense of community. Throwing it all the way back to Q3 of 2019, they compare notes on how the founding of Diversify Vanlife literally shifted culture and visibility for BIPOC on the road. How the Uprising of 2020 exposed our roles in the Revolution as well as the holes in our self-care routines. They also speak on what it means to travel slowly in a Eurocentric country where capitalistic values are the measure of success. In this proper introduction, get to know our hosts as they weave through key moments in their journeys: what it looked like to take major risks as Black women and what led them to embracing nomadic life and ultimately, to hosting Nomads at the Intersections podcast. Welcome to Nomads at the Intersections Podcast

10/2/2020
Welcome to Nomads at the Intersections podcast! Our hope is that this podcast will inspire us all to shift our perspectives on what road travel looks like, by exploring the stories and experiences of people from different walks of life. We’ll dive into topics from the margins. Topics, both big and small, that will make us rethink what community means to us. We're gonna get raw and real, and have some fun with it. In this season we’ll have conversations with people we don’t often hear from in the road travel community. You know, the ones who don’t always fit the mold. That person you waved to on the highway, or sat next to at the campfire, but you never really heard their story. Those folks who, often unheard, make our community great.
