#163. I've Got a Great Logo - Does That Mean I've Got a Great Brand?

9/16/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Today, I'm talking with the truly talented Michelle Knox, a brand strategist and designer who has become not only one of my closest friends, but also one of my most trusted advisors over the years. Michelle helps women entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits cut through the noise and create messaging that actually makes the right people stop and pay attention. In this episode, we’ll dive deep into why most people are starting their branding journey completely backwards, and how to fix that before wasting another dollar on pretty graphics that don't convert. Michelle breaks down her powerful "3 C's" framework and shares some seriously eye-opening stories about what happens when you finally get clear about who you really serve. (And, uhm, we’ll include a behind-the-scenes look at my own brand evolution that I hadn't exactly planned to shareā€¦šŸ˜…). In our conversation, you'll learn: essential stepthinkone fear that you must facedo Michelle also shares that standing out isn't about being louder (or prettier or more poetic or more clever or…whatev’s). It's about being clearer. #TRUTH: Bland branding might feel safe, but it's also invisible. One of the things I love about Michelle is her ability to call it out when she sees me making a mistake in my own branding. Today - you will learn from her too, just as I have. As healers - especially therapists - we often consider ourselves experts on what it takes to develop healthy relationships - but how often do you think about the relationship you have with yourself? #161. Real Talk: How to Keep Your Practice Going When Life Gets Messy

9/2/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Hey there, everyone! Last week, I had a wonderful conversation with Gordon Brewer, host of The Practice of Therapy podcast, about how to keep your private practice going when your life is completely falling apart. It touched me so deeply that I wanted to come back this week and dive in with some of my own thoughts. Because here's the thing... life happens to all of us sooner or later, right? Whether you're clocking in for someone else or running your own show, challenges are a fact of life. But when you're the CEO of your practice, you don't always have the luxury of just calling in sick. You've got clients counting on you, maybe staff who depend on their paychecks, and your own financial wellbeing hanging in the balance. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« So how do you keep your practice going even if it feels like everything is crumbling around you? Well, there are lots of ways, turns out. And today, I thought I’d share a bit of guidance from my own 25+ years of hard-earned experience - keeping practices running through some pretty intense life storms. In this episode, you'll hear: key to keeping your sanity best way to prepare yourself might be heading for troubleEXACTLYwhen disruption hitsThis episode was a personal one for me, because - well - #life. I've navigated infertility treatment while launching my first practice, managed international adoptions while moving houses, and later - handled divorce, illness, aging parents, and out-of-state moves - all while keeping the business doors open and serving my clients well. It didn't get easier over the years, but I definitely got better at it. So today, I want to share some ideas for how you too can navigate choppy waters when the storms come - because they will. Give it a listen. ~Wendy P.S. Do you have a favorite way of coping at your practice when life gets messy? Send me an email at wendy@WendyPittsReeves.com and share your experience. I’d love to hear! P.P.S. If you’re enjoying the podcast (as many of you tell me you are!), could you help me spread the word? Are there two friends or colleagues you know who could really use a boost of encouragement each week? Please share this episode with them. They’ll thank you! _______________ MENTIONED: Episode #160 - How Do You Serve Clients When You're Barely Surviving, Yourself? #160. How Do You Serve Clients When You're Barely Surviving, Yourself? A Conversation with Gordon Brewer

8/26/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Today I’m sitting down with the ever-steady and ever helpful Gordon Brewer to talk about something we don't discuss nearly enough – how to keep your practice thriving when life gets really, really hard. šŸ˜“ Gordon is the owner of Kingsport Counseling Associates, a group practice, and host of The Practice of Therapy podcast. (Gordon is way ahead of me. He’s approaching his 400th episode!) He also has an extremely powerful story to share … For 13 years, Gordon successfully ran and grew his practice all while at the same time serving as primary caregiver for his beloved wife through her battle with breast cancer, brain surgery, and eventual passing in 2023. šŸ’” And yet somehow, even through all of that, he managed to build a sustainable practice that could support his family, serve his clients, and give him the flexibility to be present for what mattered most. How did he do that? And what can we learn from his experience? In this episode, you'll discover: specific systems that allowed him to step away from his practice when neededONE thing non-negotiables’ that helped get him throughThe truth is, folks, we never know what's coming our way. And sometimes, life may have a way of demanding everything from us right when we think we can't give any more. But as Gordon shows us, when you build the right foundation and tend to some healthy business basics right from the start, you can weather almost anything (all while still serving your clients and supporting your family). Give this one a listen. ~Wendy P.S. If this topic resonates with you, you may also want to be sure you listen to Episode 146, where I spoke with Robyn Miller about how important it is to have a professional will. P.P.S. 8/19/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Today, I’m excited to have the incredible Rosanne Carter joining us here on the podcast to talk about something that is near and dear to her heart: nervous system co-regulation and why understanding this concept could completely transform your practice (and your life). Rosanne is a psychotherapist and consultant who specializes in helping parents, children, and early childhood support professionals understand their OWN nervous systems so they can be more present and more regulated in their work and relationships. But here's why I love Rosanne's story so much … She came to private practice from a place of complete burnout, not at all sure that she could make this work. But in just 3 years, she's built a thriving 6-figure practice, not only with some super savvy business smarts, but also by learning to honor her own nervous system instead of overriding it constantly. In this episode, you'll learn: can completely change how you show up as a therapistsneaky signs that you're overriding your nervous systemA simple but powerful techniqueWe've been taught that pushing through, working harder, and ignoring our body's signals is somehow noble or professional. But as Rosanne says so beautifully: "Self regulation is not a luxury, it's leadership." And you know what? She’s right. So give this one a listen, guys. Because taking better care of yourself - and your nervous system! - is also part of having an Ideal PracticeTM. ~Wendy P.S. ā€œOkay Wendy - THAT was interesting….!ā€œ If that’s what you find yourself saying as you listen, would you please share a little love with a 5 star review and a few words over on Apple Podcasts or Spotify? _______________ TODAY’S GUEST: ROSANNE CARTER Rosanne Carter is the founder of Kavana Consulting and an Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health Therapist with 20+ years of experience. #158. How a Simple Scheduling App Can Help You Run a Healthier Private Practice

8/12/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! She was on the edge of burnout… …getting sick more often, and having to cancel appointments with clients she loved - all because she’d lost any semblance of control over her calendar. Funny isn’t it? How easy it is for us to get ourselves in trouble - just because we want to be there when our clients need us, or - heck - because we’re trying to make a living. But it happens - a lot. And it breaks my heart. I used to be the same way - until I finally made the decision to try something new, and maybe - just maybe - change the way I set up my work week, just by changing the way I handled a client’s requests for an appointment. Such a small thing. Such a big impact. It took me a good three years before I was finally willing to try it, to set up a scheduling app in my practice so that clients could schedule without calling me. I fought that idea because I thought I would be giving up control - and I couldn’t have been more wrong. In this episode, you’ll learn: losing controltotally serve your clientsstillstep by step processAND I’ll share with you how my client got her life back - and so can you. Seriously - I know the way most of us handle this. We pull out our little planner at the end of a session, look at our client, and say, ā€œSo! When would you like to come back?ā€ And the back and forth begins. There’s a better way, y’all. And your clients will love it as much as you do. Give this a listen. ~Wendy P.S. Gary is a licensed therapist and founder of the Center for Intimacy Recovery, a group practice with services now in seven states around the U.S. He's also the most wonderfully creative human who takes therapy way beyond the traditional office setting. We're talking surf therapy in New York, boxing classes with clients, even summer camp for 80 year olds … But there's more. Gary has brought that same creative spirit he uses in his clinical work to the connections he has with colleagues, too. With his "Therapy Tribe", he’s created a whole community for mental health professionals that is equally creative - and fun! - with pickleball, salsa dancing, summer camps and Mexico retreats! Yikes - that went fast. 😳 So how are you doing with those big goals you set for your practice back at the start of the year? If you’re not sure, or if it’s been a while since you’ve checked in with those goals - this is for you. The truth is, most of us can only handle about 90 days’ worth of focus at a time anyway, so checking in with a quarterly review is actually the best way to pause, reflect, and course-correct if needed. šŸ¤“ In this episode, you’ll hear 4 simple questions you can use to guide your thinking as you reflect on your progress over the past 90 days. Then, we’ll use that reflection to revisit your intentions and map out your plan for the next 90 days, too. #Winning! Those big plans you mapped out at the start of the year? They still count. The key to making them real, though, is this kind of process. So sit down, grab a pen and a notebook, get comfortable, and get ready… Today, I’ll walk you through a simple 4-part journal exercise that will give you a powerful framework to review your goals and ensure that you stay aligned as you work towards them with intention. Because life happens, right? And I get it. It’s all too easy to get busy, to get overwhelmed, and just … lose sight of the big picture. But not today! Today, YOU are the one driving the bus, and your business follows your lead. šŸ˜Ž (Am I right?) #153. The Unique Power of Equine EMDR: Julie Jerrolds and a Creative Private Practice

6/10/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Today’s guest caught my attention when I got word about an experiential workshop she was hosting for therapists in our area. When I looked into it, I was struck by the way she’s grown her practice - managing to combine her skills and experience in a VERY creative way. I’m speaking with Julie Jerrolds, an LPC Supervisor and EMDR-certified therapist from the beautiful Seymour, Tennessee - right up the road from me. :) Julie is the visionary founder of Open Reins Counseling, where she provides her clients with a combination of equine-assisted therapy and EMDR. In this inspiring conversation, you’ll hear how Julie’s built a thriving, unique practice that truly embodies her passions, blending deep clinical skill with the healing power of nature and horses. You’re also going to learn: and why you’re probably more ready than you think and what an impact that will have on your own practice going forward.Y’all, there is a lesson here for all of us … There is so much more that we can do as therapists than just sit in a room and talk with someone once a week. I have always been a huge fan of experiential work. I also love seeing a therapist who finds creative ways to expand what she’s already offering. Julie has shown us a power example of what’s possible here. Imagine what could happen if you gave yourself permission to think outside of the box. To dream bigger. To think differently. To find a way to combine one or more of your passions and serve your clients deeply in the process. Would that be FUN? Well, here’s the really fun part … it’s your business, and you get to design it any way you want. #151. When Your Business Calls You Forward: How to Turn Courage to Confidence

5/27/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Growing a successful private practice takes a lot more than a nice office and some cool posts on Instagram or a brief profile in Psychology Today. It takes courage - and lots of it. There have been countless times when I knew I wanted to go somewhere with my practice that would require me to step up in a bigger way, to play a bigger game. And each time, that meant I had to face my own internal limits, to tolerate the discomfort of growth, and do things I wasn’t at all sure I could do! anything And so much more. Today, I’ll tell you how I did it, how I faced those fears and did what needed doing, every single time. Turns out - even though I was running on intuition - there was a structure to my process, every time. Today, I’m introducing you to the Courage to Confidence Success Cycle(c), a go-to process I’ve used to face fear and reach new heights over and over again. In this episode, you’ll learn: 1. …about the complete 7 step process that worked each time I knew it was time to grow as a practice owner. 2. …the one step you must take before you figure out the ā€˜how’, not after, even though most people would do it the other way around. 3. …the unexpected, unpredictable, and often kind of amazing ways that one small courageous step will teach you to lead in ways you didn’t even know you had in you. Whether you’re gathering the nerve to invite a colleague you’ve always admired to coffee, making your first hire, or heck - buying an office building - it’s all scary. But you already have the courage inside. It’s only in taking action that you’ll build the confidence to match. And the C2C Success Cycle will lead you all the way through. So give this a listen. And the next time your business calls you to move forward, whisper a quiet, ā€œOkā€. And begin. You can’t see it, but I’m over here, cheering wildly, for you. ~Wendy P.S. Got something that’s calling you forward now? Shoot me an email and tell me about it. Send it to Wendy@WendyPittsReeves.com. #150. How Heart-Centered Entrepreneurs Can Learn to Love Networking, with Melissa Snow

5/20/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! ā€œThere’s no such thing as a solopreneur.ā€ That’s what Melissa Snow said to me when we first met to discuss her possible appearance on the podcast. And just like that, I was hooked. Her point? She went on to explain that our network is our strength, and finding ways to build deep connections with others is the healthiest, and fastest, way to grow your practice. After all - who are you more likely to get a referral from? An insurance company? Some ad you run on Instagram? Or a colleague who knows you, trusts you, understands who you serve - and values your work? I know the answer to that - and I bet you do too. But soooo many healers in private practice fall on the introverted end of the social scale. We’re not shy mind you - not at all. We just prefer deeper, richer conversations over the mad chaos of a Chamber coffee where all that matters is how many business cards you manage to give away. Ugh. Yeah. We hate that. :) But networking, when handled the way Melissa teaches us to handle it, can be a much better experience. And in today’s episode, she’ll share some of that with you. In this episode, you’ll hear: other(One of my own experiences led to a whole new conference for adolescent girls…)connectionsand it doesn’t go so well. It’s not what you think.imposter syndromefishing poleYou might hear a networking nightmare or two as well. But by the time you get to the end of this lovely conversation, I’m betting you’ll be excited about getting out there to meet a few new folks. And they’ll be excited to meet YOU too. This networking thing matters more than you may know - but it can also be more fun than you’ve ever believed. Still not sure? Give this a listen. ~Wendy P.S. If you’re enjoying the podcast (as so many of you tell me you are), could you help me spread the word? Do you have friends or colleagues who could use a new business besty? 4/22/2025
Question or comment? šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø Send me a text message! Okay, y’all, today we're digging into a topic we often push aside. We talk a lot about what it means to build an Ideal Practice(c), attracting perfect clients, doing the work we were called to do... but what happens to all of that – and more importantly, to our clients – if the unexpected happens to us? In this episode, I’m talking to the amazing Robyn Miller. Robyn is the founder of TheraClosure, a first-of-its-kind service that provides professional executor services to therapists. She's here to guide us through this crucial, yet often neglected, aspect of responsible practice ownership. Because here's the truth: Having a plan for your practice closure isn't about planning for the worst … it's a profound act of care for your clients, your family, and your professional legacy. In this episode, you'll hear: simply naming a colleague or family memberand why it can be deeply unfair waysingle biggest mistakeOy. This may be a real eye-opener for most of you (it sure was for me), but this, too, is part of having an Ideal Practice(c). Estate planning is a serious subject. It’s a hard subject.
