History Meets Heartbreak: Uncovering a Forgotten Massacre with Author Reenita M Hora

9/23/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Reenita M Hora, author of the book Vermilion Harvest. Reenita is a founder, executive-level content, operations, and marketing leader, and prolific writer. With multiple years of experience in media, entertainment, communications, tech/innovation and wellness industries in the USA and Asia, she grows organizations, ranging from early-stage startups through mid-size businesses, through storytelling, creative marketing and business strategy. She has served as Head of Marketing at SRI International, Silicon Valley's pioneer science and deep tech research institute, VP of Content at hibooks/Otto Radio producer/presenter for Bloomberg and award-winning host for RTHK Radio 3 in Hong Kong. Reenita founded, built and sold Ayoma, a health and wellness brand, and has written seven books - five non-fiction and two fiction. She has contributed to The Hindu, South China Morning Post, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, CNN, Asian Investor, Times of India and National Geographic Kids, Cartoon Network Asia, Disney and more. She is a limited partner in the How Women Invest fund which specifically invests in women owned companies. She is working on her next novel and has recently launched Chapter by episode, a digital publishing platform for immersive chat fiction stories with diverse themes. In my book review, I stated Vermilion Harvest by Reenita M. Hora is a historical fiction set in 1919 India during the time of Ghandi's peaceful resistance. As I read historical fiction, I realize how much history I know very little about. Of course, I have heard of Ghandi, but I knew nothing of General Dyer or his attack at the Jallianwallah Bagh. Although fiction, this novel helped me understand the goings-ons prior to, during, and immediately following this attack that eventually changed the fate of the nation. Reenita did an amazing job with her characters Aruna, who is an Anglo-Indian schoolteacher, and Ayaz, a Muslim law student with political leanings - as well as a host of minor characters. I also loved how she didn't shy away from difficult topics like British rule that kept the Indian population as nothing more than slaves, the tension between three different religions in the region, romance between those of different backgrounds, the plight of Anglo-Indians, single mothers, standing strong in the face of adversity, and more. Finally, I loved a philosophy put forth that good often comes from bad. It is something I needed to hear. A Burglar in Vermont: Comedy, Crime, and Community with Author Gregory Grosvenor

9/20/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Gregory Grosvenor, author of the book Second Pocket First. Author Gregory Grosvenor grew up in Ansbach, Germany. He moved to the US, earning an MFA from Old Dominion University. For two decades, he has taught writing and the art of the short story at various colleges in Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. Grosvenor currently lives in Somerville, Massachusetts with his three cats, Dinah, Theo, and Bramlet Abercrombie. Second Pocket First is his debut novel. Grosvenor is available for readings, interviews, podcasts, speaking engagements, and book signings. In my book review, I stated Second Pocket First is humorous mystery that is heavy on the humor. The protagonist, Issey, is a thief. However, Issey is more concerned about the artistic and creative nature of thieving rather than the items themselves - which makes him a less than ideal crook. You see, he pays more attention to his hat, his gloves, and his lock pickers than to the items he steals. And he often breaks the items on the way home because he carelessly tosses them into a duffle bag. Issey finds himself back in his hometown where the need to steal from people first began, offering the reader great flashbacks into Issey's early years, as well as getting to meet people who knew him as a child. And suddenly, through no fault of his own, he becomes a hero - and everything about his life changes. He's respectable. He has a romantic partner. He has business cards. Now what? I loved the humor throughout and found this to be an enjoyable read. Addiction, Poverty, and Hope: Stories That Go Beyond Romance with Author Twila Mason

9/16/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Twila Mason, author of the book Piece by Piece. Twila is an award-winning romance author. She has been writing her own stories since she learned how to read. She is a writer of romance, women's fiction, poetry, and short stories. Her work explores raw emotions and the complexities of life while finding the hope within every obstacle. After obtaining a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology, she switched gears to follow her lifelong dream of putting her fictional stories out into the world. She lives the rural, small-town life in Missouri with her husband, two kids, and menagerie of animals. When she's not reading or writing, Twila can be found crafting, farming, doing home improvement projects, or going on adventures with her family. In my book review, I stated Piece by Piece is a friends-to-lovers contemporary romance that takes a hard look at the drug culture - and what it does to families. Aria spends her childhood looking after her baby brother, Ben, because her mother simple cannot. As a drug addict, she is often high, always unreliable, and rarely offers motherly support. When her mother spends the rent money, Aria arrives home to find the family is now on the street. She turns to an old friend, Luke, who found a way out of the old neighborhood. Although there is an immediate spark between them, Luke and Aria dance around the attraction because neither is ready to commit. We get front row seats as we watch them battle their demons and navigate a new world where peace, hope, and love have a chance to exist. As completely foreign concepts, neither one really knows what to do when life isn't a battlefield. That's not to say everything is easy. Moving past trauma and finding the right path is not easy. Nor is forgiveness - of others or of self. And what to do when the ones you should love are the ones that keep hurting you? This story is sweet as two young people fall in love. But it is also edgy as we see what happens when drugs and alcohol cause childhood trauma and can easily create a family cycle of abuse. Secrets of the Bayou: A Girl’s Quest for Truth and Belonging with Author Jo Taylor

9/13/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Jo Taylor, author of the book Margaret of Thibodaux. Jo is an obstreperous, retired ER Nurse who is likely an obstreperous writer too. She grew up with three stepmothers (not at the same time). She's lived on a boat and traced her genealogy back to the year 310 (maybe, probably, you know how genealogy is). She's been married for 33 years and all her hero characters are based on her husband, a hero in real life. Her first book, Postcards: Collected Poems and Short Stories, came out in July 2024. Margaret of Thibodaux, her first novel, released on March 18, 2025. In Carole’s book review, she stated: 14-year-old Margaret is not going to let her father erase the memory of her deceased mother by bringing another woman (certainly not a stepmother) into their home. Her best friend, Honey tries to convince her there’s nothing to worry about. The new woman is a doctor after all, loved by the entire town. But for the past six years her mother has appeared at her feet and lulled her to sleep with her favorite lullaby. Margaret is convinced that couldn’t possibly continue if another woman occupies the master bedroom. Jo Taylor masters this coming-of-age story which takes place in Louisiana during the summer of 1974. You can almost feel the heat of the bayou as Margaret and her friends solve the problems of the world on the swings at the water’s edge. The local town medium is the one person Margaret feels can help her contact her mother to make sure their routine won’t change. But no medium, or talk with friends, or even pleading with her father can assure her things will be fine. It isn’t until she finds a poem at her mother’s grave that she begins on a path to a solution she can live with. This is a story you’ll want to put on your TBR list. A Return to West Texas: Reckoning with Memory and Truth with Author Deonna Kay

9/11/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Deonna Kay, author of the book The Measure of Enough. Deonna Kay is a native Texan. She is the proud mom of a young adult daughter, an over-sized dog, and the fuzziest cat you’ve ever seen. Her passion for writing began as a child and has carried over into her adult life. She tutors youth in writing and works as a contract reader and editor, providing feedback to other budding writers. She is also a business owner in the world of finance and loves to travel, particularly to Walt Disney World. THE MEASURE OF ENOUGH is her debut, and she's excited to share it with the world. In my book review, I stated The Measure of Enough is part women's fiction and part psychological thriller. This makes The Measure of Enough a perfect read for those who love strong character development but like twists and turns. We meet Kacee who runs her own non-profit to help abused women after leaving her hometown full of broken promises, unfulfilled dreams, and an image she can't shake. Although confident at work, she is an emotional wreck on the inside. We soon learn she must use pills and alcohol to make it through her days and her nightmare filled nights. What's the worst thing that can happen to Kacee? She is called home where she will have to face her mother and her best friend - two people she hasn't spoken to in years. And then there's the matter of her estranged father as well. Add to this the gray truck the seems to follow her everywhere, a home invasion, and cryptic messages telling her to back off. What does it all mean? And will getting to the bottom of it help Kacee move forward in life - or embroil her further in emotions she doesn't want to face? This is a great story that deals with mental health issues, abuse (both sexual and physical), addiction, and eating disorders. It is a definite must-read. Past, Perception, and Peace: One Woman’s Journey to Letting Go with Author Dr. Roseanne D’Ausilio

9/9/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Roseanne D'Ausilio, author of the book Pain, Pumpernickel, and Profound Forgiveness. Roseanne D’Ausilio, Ph.D., is an industrial psychologist, consultant, best-selling author, executive coach, customer service expert, and President of Human Technologies Global. Known as ‘the practical champion of the human,’ in a high-tech world, she authors 15 mostly non-fiction books. Her first book was Wake Up Your Call Center: Humanize Your Interaction Hub now in its 4th edition. Pain, Pumpernickel, & Profound Forgiveness: A Daughter’s Story of her Punishing & Loving Relationship with her Father is Rosanne’s first memoir--A very different genre. Rosanne splits her time between Northern Virginia and the Caribbean and can be found doing Zumba nearly every day. It’s her body/mind/spirit dance. In my book review, I stated Pain, Pumpernickel, & Profound Forgiveness is a beautiful memoir. Through the use of short essays, Rosanne helps us understand her relationship with her father - and her mother - the good and the not-so-good. As I read, I often felt that Rosanne learned the lessons of the book - love doesn't always look like we think it will, we can change how we see things, compassion is possible even when hurting, and you can be at peace with your past - as she wrote down her memories. Her surprise at what she found was evident! Rosanne's tales are full of what she calls Divine Interventions - times where logic doesn't adequately explain the outcomes and miracles abound. And through these Divine Interventions, Rosanne learns so much about her father, herself, and their often-troubled relationship. As someone who has struggled with familial relationships, I enjoyed watching the author discover that there is more than one way to see the past - and how you think about the past is entirely up to you! This is a quick, easy read that will leave you thinking deeply. History, Fantasy, and Flow: A Bold New Way to Tell Stories with Author Peter Gunn

9/6/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Peter Gunn, author of the book The Amazons. Peter Gunn is a U.S. Air Force Veteran and served his country proudly for over two decades. His unique writing style comes from a love of poetry and considers himself to be a poet first before being a content writer. In my book review, I stated The Amazons is a YA fiction that is a cross between historical fiction and fantasy - all done in verse! Peter invented LLP - linked-lyrical-poetry. LLP has the flavor of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Shakespeare's sonnets, and hip-hop/rap music. However, unlike Homer and Shakespeare, The Amazons is easy-to-read and understand. The Amazons is a perfect introduction into epic poetry - but be sure to have a dictionary handy. In order to keep the rhyming scheme going, Peter relies on his extensive vocabulary (and a thesaurus or two!). In addition to his unique style, I loved his storytelling and how he linked the history of England after the Napoleonic Wars to the fabled Amazons who supposedly lived in Peru. The story is fun, fast-paced, and filled with adventures. And for those who get hooked on the style, Peter has planned a series and is working on Books 2 and 3. From Cuba to New Jersey: A Refugee's Journey of Resilience with Author Ricardo Jose Gonzalez-Rothi

9/2/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Ricardo Jose Gonzalez-Rothi, author of the book The Mango Chronicle. “The Mango Chronicle” is Ric’s first book-length manuscript, but he has had several published narrative essays about growing up in Cuba. These have appeared in Acentos Review, HEAL Literary Journal, Gainesville Magazine, Biostories, Foliate Oak, Lunch Ticket, The Bellingham Review, and Hispanic Culture Review. Other published pieces include poetry (including a self-published collection of bilingual children’s poems), narrative essays, and over fifty scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the Authors’Guild, Writers’ Alliance of Gainesville and has served as a nonfiction reader for The Atticus Review. He spends his with his family, four grandchildren, his wife and daughters. He loves dogs, hiking, playing in the dirt (when not playing his guitar), planting fruit trees, tinkering on his farm, practicing ventriloquy with his two (very accommodating) puppets, kayaking, learning languages, sketching, photography and crafting short films (Youtube channel Mango for You. @MangoforYou2day). In my book review, I stated The Mango Chronicle is a wonderful memoir that reads more like a novel. I loved hearing Ric's stories about growing up in Cuba, as well as his heart-wrenching stories about his first years as an immigrant. I have always found it interesting how a child views life. We assume that living in communist Cuba was terrible. And there were definitely aspects that were bad. But on many levels, at least to a child, he has glorious memories of his Uncle, his grandmother, his friends, neighborhood pranks, sports, kite flying, and adventures. Whether he was using his slingshot or stealing a rowboat, Ric saw Cuba from the eyes of a child who loved where he lived. When his family moves to New Jersey, he lets us into his child's mind as he tries to navigate a new world with a new language. Some of these stories were funny. Others were not. But throughout it all, Ric's upbringing helped him forge a path forward. His recollections made me laugh, ponder, swear under my breath, and even cry. You are going to love this book! The Softie and the Survivor: A Holocaust Memoir Brought to Life with Author Martin Bodek

8/26/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Martin Bodek, author of the book Zaidy's War. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Martin currently lives in NJ with his wife and three children. He is an avid marathoner, Daf Yomi participant, Wordler, vexillologist, and halvah aficionado. He is a technologist by day, and a writer by night. A freelance writer on Jewish interest topics for three decades, his work has been published in The Huffington Post, The Denver Post, The Washington Times, The Jewish Press, Country Yossi Magazine, Modern Magazine, The Jewish Link of NJ, The Jewish Book Council, scoogiespin, israelinsider, bangitout, jewcentral, Jew in the City, Aish, and Shepherd. His work was translated for Germany’s only weekly Jewish newspaper, The Jüdische Allgemeine. Zaidy’s War was translated into Yiddish and serialized in Der Yid. He is the co-creator of TheKnish.com, a popular Jewish news satire site, the beat reporter for JRunners, the surname columnist for jewishworldreview, the cufflink columnist for The Jewish Link of NJ, and is part of the Word Prompt rotation in The Jewish Press. In my book review, I stated Zaidy's War by Martin Bodek is a Holocaust family memoir you won't want to miss. As Martin said in his preface, the stories his grandfather told him about his time during the war always sounded more like a super-hero adventure story. However, as he grew older, he realized that these stories were far more and needed preserving. Without a doubt, his grandfather would be so proud of the book and grateful that Martin found a way to keep the memories of the Jewish plight alive. Zaidy is an amazing man who loved religious learning, his family, and freedom. Yet, due to Hitler and his desire for ethnic cleansing, Zaidy could have easily lost everything he loved. And when he made it through the other side of the war, he could have easily lost his humanity. And yet, what we find is a man who pushed forward, helped his community rebuild, fell in love, worked hard for his family, moved not once but twice in order to provide the stability his family needed, and continued to follow his religious principles throughout his life. It is no wonder Martin grew up thinking his grandfather was so amazing - it is because it was true. In today's world, where antisemitism is strong and there are many who claim the Holocaust didn't happen, books such as Zaidy's War are beyond valuable. These stories could ultimately stop something like the extermination of entire Jewish communities from happening again. Buy this book. Read this book. And then determine what you can do to begin to right the wrongs you see happening in your own communities. Rethinking History and Spirituality: A Fresh Perspective with Author Renee Blodgett

8/23/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Renee Blodgett, author of the book Magdalene's Journey. Novelist, curator, humanitarian, conscious business leader and modern mystic Renee Blodgett has lived multiple lives in one. Having traveled around the world, she has plenty of stories to share, from riding elephants in the Indian jungle and photographing polar bears in northern Canada to teaching English in Kenya, exploring glaciers in Iceland and selling kilims in Turkey. She has lived in eleven countries, including South Africa during Apartheid and the Gaza Strip. Her multicultural background and years of experience as a communications strategist have led to a career of uplifting others through content, speaking, coaching and leading. Known as a master of storytelling, she has written for several magazines, blog networks, the Huffington Post, and her own award-winning online travel magazine, We Blog the World, which reaches over a half million reach globally. Her love of diversity and the visual arts has resulted in five photo books, her serving as a Travel & Leisure judge and spearheading content for TEDxUN, the only TEDx event held at the United Nations (UN). She has also been the curator and producer of TEDxBerkeley for the last 12 years, one of the largest TEDx events in the United States. CEO World Magazine voted her one of the most powerful women in social media, she was listed as a top social media influencer by both Forbes and the UN, and her blog has won numerous industry awards. She was selected as a top 10 Social Media Mentor by Women Online Magazine, an AlwaysOn Top 150 Business Journalist and a Shorty Awards Business Influencer finalist. A passionate photographer, she has published six photo books on nature, culture and travel. She has shot top names in the technology and entertainment industries, such as Steve Jobs, Freeman Dyson, Tony Robbins, Robin Williams, John Legend, Elvis Costello, Lionel Ritchie, John Perry Barlow, and dozens more. Renee also co-founded Blue Soul Earth with her partner, where they help others through books, digital content, retreats and membership programs that focus on heart-centered living, universal consciousness, masculine and feminine balance, and connecting to the inherent beauty and power of our human existence. Their bestselling book Magdalene’s Journey, which blends science and spirituality, invites people to re-think our patriarchal-dictated history through a pivotal woman’s eyes. In Carole’s book review, she stated: Whatever stories and teachings you’ve heard of Early Christianity, Magdalene's Journey by Renee Blodgett and Anthony Compagnone, a historical fiction, will make you wonder if there isn’t another truth. The authors introduce us to Angelo and Rochelle, an unsuspecting married couple who loved to explore ancient and esoteric wisdom across all cultures. Little did they know they would meet two ancient souls, who would turn their lives upside down. It all began one night when the words, “My name is Miriam of Magdala,” came out of the mouth of Angelo. His voice had changed, and Rochelle responded with, “Mary Magdalene!” Magdalene’s Journey channels people who once lived and walked the planet, along with real settings in terms of time and place. This well-written narrative moves from one story to the next with accounts of the lives of Jesus of Nazareth and Mary Magdalene. It guides us through how she taught alongside Jesus, their marriage, and the water birth of their daughter Sarah. It chronicles how the seven female apostles who travelled with Mary by sea to the north after the death and resurrection of Jesus. We learn how they dealt with finding food, clothing, and shelter, and their part in the water birth of Mary’s daughter. This page turner is like a blueprint worth studying. Thrills in the Arctic: One Scientist’s Deadly Mission with Author Brooke L French

8/19/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Brooke L French, author of the book Unnatural Intent. Brooke L. French is a recovering lawyer turned writer who lives with her husband and sons in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. She spends most of her days gleefully researching and writing about fatal viruses, terrorism, and murder. Brooke is likely on numerous watch lists. In my book review, I stated Unnatural Intent is a thriller that kept my pulse racing. From the first chapter where we meet killer polar bears to the end when we wonder if Letty will make it through the book alive, Brook had me hooked. Letty is a field researcher which makes her as much a sleuth as a scientist. She also seems to ignore potential hazards and often finds herself on the wrong side of safety. I found myself both willing her to make it through any given scrape and yelling at her to make wiser decisions! As a complete science nerd, I loved the science portion of this story. What happens if climate change does more than heat up the earth's surface? What if it changes animals and how they behave? What if new organisms evolve, and these organisms are deadly? What if these changes don't just happen to animals but also affect entire populations? And what is there is someone out there who doesn't want anyone to know about it? If you like a book that you just can't put down, but one in which you have to put it down to catch your breath, then this is the book for you. Fantasy Meets Symphony: Inside a Storytelling Revolution with Author Christopher Kaufman

8/16/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Christopher Kaufman, author of the book Tales of the Ocean City. Christopher is an author, composer, concert presenter, illustrative artist and performer. In addition to his work as composer for the concert stage and film and as a concert organizer - Kaufman has created an ongoing classic epic fantasy series titled Tales of the Ocean City. Like his other works of this kind, Kaufman’s books feature enthralling imaginative story, are graphically illustrated, and include go-with ‘audio albums’ rife with cinematic music, narration, and sound design. He offers these works on his store - kaufmantales.com - where one can find them as physical books, audio albums, ebooks and the new video books. In my book review, I stated Tales of the Ocean City by Christopher Kaufman is a fantasy and a whole lot more. Although not as character-driven as I would have liked, I was fascinated by the multimedia experience created by the author. In addition to the story, Christopher added music and visual art, creating a full-sensory experience. In many ways, Tales of Ocean City reads more like a graphic novel. But the abstract art and epic music takes the idea of graphic novel to a whole new level. Fantasy readers who love descriptive details about the setting and clothing, and those who love intense battle scenes, will be enthralled with this book. By the time you come to the closing pages, you'll feel as if you have been to Ocean City, battled with Harl'ut and his telepathic pegasus, Vispushin, and been on an epic quest to defeat the enemy - The Vorm. Although a YA Fantasy, Christopher says adults are welcome! I think everyone should try this immersive experience. From LSD Experiments to Literary Fiction: How History Sparked a Novel with Author Ben Hawken

8/12/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Ben Hawken, author of the book Chandelier. Ben is the award-winning creator of several beloved video series and a small handful of children. Previously, he was the author of zero other books and graduated with honors from a community college, as well as a real college. He lives outside Seattle with his family. In my book review, I stated Chandelier is a can't-put-down thriller that kept me reading long past my bedtime! We meet Sienna as a young child who finds herself working on a government project because of a small ridge present in her brain. According to the scientists, this ridge is like an antenna that picks up Russian signals. Sienna loves that she is part of something big, but when her part in the project is over, she feels unfulfilled - as though she failed. She spends the rest of her life trying to outrun that feeling. As an adult, Sienna is a wife, mother, and expert in her field. She is also somewhat aloof and has never revealed to her secret life as a child. Until ... the past comes barreling into her present and threatens to destroy her carefully laid future. I love Sienna's character. She is tough and smart, but also scared and scarred. Like me, she would do anything for her children - and that resolve is tested as she reveals long-hidden truths and makes difficult decisions for her family. I was on the edge of my seat and loved the twists and turns of this story. It's a must read! Deadly Waters: A Medical Mystery Unfolds at Sea with Author Kevin Hwang

8/9/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Kevin Hwang, author of the book The Regression Strain. Kevin O. Hwang, MD, is a professor of internal medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston where he sees patients and teaches residents. His academic work has appeared in leading medical journals. He attended Rice University and The University of Texas Medical Branch. He is a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) and the Independent Author Network (IAN). Nothing excites him more than chicken enchiladas, index cards, and appropriately sized packaging. In my book review, I stated The Regression Strain is a medical thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The novel starts with Dr. Peter Palmer joining the medical team aboard the cruise ship, Paradise. Unfortunately, as he soon learns, the ship's moniker is as far from the truth as it gets - nor is the laid back job helping happy vacationers laid back! The novel takes place after COVID restrictions have lifted and life has gotten back to normal. However, when people start coming into the clinic, first with minor respiratory symptoms, and later with aggression in its many forms, Peter begins to suspect a virus. Slowly, everyone in his new life begins to change - and his hope for a rest from the anxiety of his life turns to fear and dread. Is the virus natural or man-made? Is someone behind its spread? Can he stop the rest of the ship from getting sick? Will anything he does be 'too little, too late'? This is a quick read that will have you breathlessly turning the page to find out if Peter can save first the ship - but more importantly, the world. Secrets, Seduction, and Mystery: A Twist on Love and Loyalty with Author Jen Sinclair

8/7/2025
Carole O’Neill’s guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Jen Sinclair, author of the book There's Always a Price. Jen Sinclair pens personal essays and contemporary fiction that explore complicated relationships, love, loss, and all the messiness of life. Jen lives in Saint Augustine, Florida, with her husband, kids, and spoiled pups. When she isn’t working out story elements, belting out songs from one of her Spotify playlists, or having conversations with imaginary friends, she enjoys spending time outside walking beaches and trails, paddling waterways, or driving around with the top off her Jeep. She’s published two women’s fiction books, There’s Always a Price and According to My Science and collaborated on the dark friendship fiction novel, The Accidental Death of MF Ascher. In my book review, Carole O’Neill stated: There's Always a Price is a contemporary novel. I enjoyed this book from page one. Thirty-six-year-old Cassie has stopped painting because of some neurological damage to her hand and her once-held dream has been shattered. Her husband Jason has kept their money problems from her and is about to lose everything, including Cassie’s trust fund. Enter investor Lucas Dalton who offers to save Jason’s business and allow him to put the money he stole from Cassie back before she discovers it missing. Problem solved. Or is it? There’s always a price. Jen Sinclair’s story takes us into a world where billionaires can have almost everything. This novel has been named a finalist in the Women’s Fiction Category by the Feathered Quill 2025 Book Awards. Once you begin reading, you’ll feel it should be the winner. Werewolves and Witches: Writing Grief, Magic, and Friendship with Author Max Shippee

8/5/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Max Shippee, author of the book Moonshine: Path of the Raven. Max grew up in rural Maine and knows the woods well. His own journey took him to Hollywood, California by way of Oklahoma, Nevada, Texas, DC, and even Bali, Indonesia. For the last 20 years, he has been busy as an actor, a gym owner, a husband, and a father. Along the way, he’s had some stories brewing in that silver-haired head of his. He thought he best write them down. You can find his spontaneous science-fiction installments on Reddit, and now, MOONSHINE: THE SERIES has begun with Book One: Path of the Raven. In my book review, I stated Moonshine: Path of the Raven is a wonderful young adult fiction novel full of magical realism. I'm going to be honest - I rarely read werewolf books because I find them to be too fantastical for my liking. However, this novel kept me captivated from the beginning. I immediately fell in love with Sam, the young boy on the brink of manhood, and his protector, John. Plus, the extended cast of characters is just as enchanting! Sam starts out life as a sharecropper in the early 1900s. His family still works on the plantation that used to hold them as slaves. Although poor, Sam believes his life is good. However, everything changes the day the young plantation daughter notices Sam working. Although his life was destined to change anyway as the next Jack for a coven in upstate New York, Sam soon finds himself without a family or a place to call home. Fortunately for Sam, he soon learns that he doesn't have to journey through life alone. I love that many of the characters we meet are incarnations of legendary figures - King Author, John Henry, and more! This is a great read. Hidden Heroines of History: Writing the Women They Forgot with Author Kit Sergeant

7/29/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Kit Sergeant, author of the book Nancy Wake. With eight historical fiction novels to her name, including riveting tales of real-life spies like Marie-Madeleine Fourcade and Nancy Wake, Kit weaves narratives that bring history to life through the lens of women who defied the odds. In addition to her historical fiction, Kit has also penned two novels in contemporary women's fiction, one of which, What It Is, was a previous Kindle Scout winner. A teacher by profession and at heart, Kit loves to impart little-known facts and dares you to walk away from one of her books without learning at least one new thing. In my book review, I stated I love a good historical fiction and can't resist the historical fiction when the story centers on a real-life woman! Nancy Wake checks all my boxes! Nancy is a woman who sees Hitler's atrocities, and rather than turn away, she determines to do what she can to stop him. Because Nancy is married to a wealthy man, she has the money and connections to help the Resistance when Northern France is under siege. She gathers food and clothing, she passes information, and eventually, she begins helping escaped prisoners find their way back to England. But what will happen when France falls? Will 'The White Mouse' be able to continue to evade capture? Will her husband? And what will be her role? I was captivated by Nancy and her dedication to the cause - even at the expense of her own health and safety. If you love a good WWII historical fiction with a strong women characters, then this is definitely the book for you! Fiction With a Mission: Exposing the Hidden Crisis in Women's Prisons with Author Amanda DuBois

7/26/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Amanda DuBois, author of the book Unshackled. In addition to writing the Camille Delaney series, Amanda is the founder and busy managing partner of DuBois Levias Law Group, a woman-owned boutique family law firm on Lake Union in Seattle, where she maintains an active family law practice. Over the past thirty years, she’s represented thousands of individuals – both in divorces and medical malpractice cases. She’s also provided pro bono legal representation for parents who served time in prison and has become very familiar with the issues they face. Prior to becoming a lawyer, she was a high-risk labor and delivery nurse at University of Washington Medical Center. Having a background in both medicine and the law has given her unique insight into the inequities of both systems. That perspective drove her to create the Camille Delaney mystery series. Camille’s adventures weave questions about justice into a fast-paced reading experience with the twists and turns one would expect from a good thriller. Her purpose in writing the series is to raise awareness of injustice and create an opportunity for readers to reflect on how our system could work better for those most marginalized. When she’s not lawyering or writing, she’s usually working on the same social justice issues that she’s sending Camille out to explore. In 2015, she founded Civil Survival Project, an organization that teaches advocacy skills to formerly incarcerated individuals. Civil Survival also provides civil legal aid to individuals struggling with the consequences of incarceration and helping them with reentry. In addition to the Civil Survival Project, she is heavily involved in the community. Plus she has created a newsletter called The Ripple Haven. If you’d like to follow the stories of some amazing women, please subscribe here, https://www.amandadubois.com/blog/announcing-ripple-haven. In my book review, I stated Unshackled is the third in the Camille Delaney Mystery series - and it was so good! You know how I love great characters, and Unshackled is full of them. Camille is an ER nurse turned lawyer, who is exposed to the oxycontin crisis and women in prison when she volunteers at the local prison. What she finds is appalling at best. Abused, traumatized, and addicted women are put into prison and given no help. There is no therapy. No addiction resources. And no help keeping their families together. In fact, Camille soon learns that many women in prison are forced to give up their parental rights. When the mothers make it out of jail, they have no access to their children, which often leads them straight back to addiction. And the kids? Without understanding why their mom's 'abandoned' them, they are likely on their way to a prison sentence as well. Camille meets Charli and agrees to take on her case. But it isn't as simple as getting her child back. Instead, she runs into drug dealers, drug kingpins, drug addicts, and a system that is against everything she wants to accomplish. From Pirates to Popes: The Wild Journey Behind a Sweeping Historical Epic with Author Kent Merrell

7/22/2025
My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Kent Merrell, author of the book The Conquest of Liberty. Meet A. Kent Merrell, a man whose creative spark has ignited award-winning advertising campaigns, inspired global leadership talks, and now fuels the pages of his vivid historical fiction. With his latest book, The Conquest of Liberty, Kent invites readers on a rollicking journey through the reformation in Europe, the discovery of the New World, and the dramatic fall and liberation of the Inca Empire. His storytelling, steeped in travels to far-flung lands and two years living atop the Andes, breathes life into history with a flair only a master of “ideas that work” could muster. Kent’s creative journey kicked off in a small Utah town, where he co-founded an advertising agency fresh out of Brigham Young University. His knack for crafting messages that make phones ring and perceptions shift drew heavyweights like Disney, VISA International, HBO, and Comcast to his doorstep. Recognized as a creative trendsetter in direct marketing, Kent’s trophy case boasts 27 international awards, and his creative presentation expertise has lit up stages from Europe to Latin America. In the mid-1980s, a Madison Avenue legend advised him to stay in Utah, promising the work would come—and it did, in spades. But Kent’s story isn’t just about ads that pop. Leadership runs deep in his veins, sparked by watching his father, an entrepreneur with no formal power, wield profound influence through honorable character. After his father’s passing when Kent was 16, he devoured leadership books and seized every chance to lead—from Boy Scout troops to serving as President of Utah’s Vocational Industrial Clubs of America in high school. Later, Dr. V. Dallas Merrell tapped him to transform “Leading Global Principles” into accessible wisdom, crystallizing Kent’s understanding of influence and impact. Whether guiding corporate giants or mentoring youth, Kent’s leadership is as creative as his advertising, always aiming to inspire and engage. Kent’s take on leadership brings with it tasty chocolate chip cookie recipes with each leadership principle. Soon to be published will be the first ever delicious leadership recipe book “Leaderchip Cookies. Now, Kent channels his global adventures and creative prowess into historical fiction. His debut, The Blade of Safavid, whisks readers across Ancient England, Persia, India, Africa, and the Americas. The Conquest of Liberty continues this tradition, blending meticulous research with storytelling zest. When he’s not penning epics, Kent’s busy with his wife of 46 years, raising five children and doting on 22 grandchildren. Follow his literary adventures at www.kentmerrellauthor.com or catch his broader musings at www.kentmerrell.substack.com. With Kent, expect a tale well-told and a legacy that inspires. In my book review, I stated The Conquest of Liberty is a detailed, many POV, Renaissance historical fiction. We follow the journey of several people - all of whom have incredible stories - and it isn't until the very end that we find out how all of these stories wind together into one. I was immediately hooked despite knowing next to nothing about the Moors, monarchs, and monks of the time. Kent is a master at creating characters. For instance, Miguel, an archbishop's right hand man who lives in Granada should be very foreign to me. But within a few pages, I felt as if he were alive in my living room as he fled persecution, was kidnapped by pirates, and found himself questioning both his King and his Pope. Then, there is Alessandro, a young boy in the care of Balboa, the explorer, Maria, a women who fled her home and lived with the Gitanos, and Vano, the next leader of the Gitanos, not to mention Sayyida al-Hurra, a Morracan Privateer, Jalaf Morisco, a Morracan Exile, and Talavera, the Archbishop accused of heresy. This novel is far more than a historical fiction - it contains within the pages...
