Why we self sabotage when things are feeling good: what I learnt from my weekend away

5/13/2024
This weekend, I went for a weekend trip with my sisters and my mum to celebrate my sister's 40th birthday. It was one of the best weekends I'd had in a long while, we had: - amazing weather - a hot tub - a lovely, well equipped cottage - amazing scenery - amazing food and drink - so many giggles and yet, I struggled to sleep. Why? In this episode, I delve deeper into what Gay Hendricks calls 'Upper Limit' and why sometimes, we can find it difficult to enjoy happiness, joy and abundance. Come and join me on this journey and see if you resonate with worrying about other things when things are actually going well. The Power of Journaling: A Simple Tool to Break Free from Negative Thought Patterns

5/5/2024
In today's episode, I'm sharing a powerful technique that can help you break free from the doubts, fears, and worries that might be holding you back. It's something I've used myself and with clients to overcome those moments when you feel stuck, like you're not making progress toward your goals. You know those times when you're just not gaining momentum, no matter how hard you try? Or when the same negative thoughts keep looping in your mind? It's frustrating, right? Well, the good news is, there's a simple yet effective way to start untangling those thoughts and finding clarity. And the best part? You don't need a coach or therapist to get started—although, of course, it helps to have someone guide you through the process. In this episode, I'll explain how journaling can help you release the clutter in your mind and uncover the deeper issues that might be blocking your path. I'll share tips on how to get started with prewriting, gratitude journaling, and other techniques that can help you explore your thoughts and feelings. You'll discover how this simple act of putting pen to paper can give you a fresh perspective and help you see things more clearly. I'll also dive into the importance of acknowledging and shifting your identity—those deep-rooted beliefs about who you are and what you're capable of. When you start seeing yourself in a different light, it can have a ripple effect on every aspect of your life. Plus, I'll guide you through a powerful exercise that I use with clients to uncover the root thoughts that drive your actions and emotions. By the end of this episode, you'll have the tools to start your own journey of self-discovery and learn how to work through those moments when you feel stuck. Breaking the Cycle: Overcoming People-Pleasing and Embracing Your True Self

4/28/2024
In this week's podcast episode, I delve into the concept of people-pleasing, a behaviour that's often overlooked but can have a significant impact on our lives. Drawing from my personal experiences and client sessions, I explore the subtle ways people-pleasing shows up and how it ties closely to our sense of identity. I discuss the spectrum of people-pleasing, ranging from occasional tendencies to a lifestyle where we constantly put others' needs ahead of our own. I examine the complex relationship between people-pleasing and being highly sensitive. If you're highly sensitive, you often empathise deeply with others' emotions, which can make you feel compelled to support and please them. This connection can lead to patterns of behaviour that are hard to break, especially if they're rooted in childhood experiences or societal pressures that encourage external validation. I also talk about avoiding conflict, a common trait among people-pleasers, and how it can lead to deeper issues like resentment and frustration. To illustrate these points, I share personal stories and insights, emphasising the importance of building internal validation and acknowledging our own needs. During this episode, I encourage you to consider where you fall on the people-pleasing scale and think about the impact it has on your life. My goal is to give you actionable insights and empower you to reclaim your own desires and priorities while still maintaining your compassionate and kind nature. Join me as I explore people-pleasing, its underlying causes, and how you can take steps to move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life. I hope that by sharing my experiences and insights, you'll gain a deeper understanding of this behaviour and find ways to prioritise your own well-being.
