The Power of Regulation Crowdfunding: From White House Advocacy to Transforming Startup Finance
4/30/2026
Watch the show on television by downloading the e360tv channel app to your Roku, LG or AmazonFireTV. You can also see it on YouTube.
Devin: What is your superpower?
Sherwood: The ability to deeply connect with others, energizing relationships and fostering purpose-driven collaboration.
Sherwood (Woodie) Neiss, a Principal of Crowdfund Capital Advisors, played a pivotal role in creating the regulations that fundamentally changed startup finance. A decade ago, he was instrumental in the passage of the JOBS Act, including the provisions that made Regulation Crowdfunding possible. In this episode, the discussion centered around the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities entrepreneurs face when raising capital through this regulated process.
Woodie reflected on his journey advocating for Regulation Crowdfunding, beginning with a bold idea and leading to a historic signing ceremony at the White House. “When we started walking the halls of Congress…we kept on hearing one thing: you guys are never going to pull this off,” Woodie shared. Yet, through relentless focus and bipartisan collaboration, he and his team successfully convinced lawmakers that Regulation Crowdfunding could create jobs and significantly enhance access to capital.
The experience of being at the signing of the JOBS Act was described by Woodie as surreal—a moment he’ll never forget. “I remember sitting on the lawn of the White House…watching the president come out, talking about how, quote-unquote, this is a game changer. And we’re pinching ourselves, going, I can’t believe we pulled this off.” For entrepreneurs today, that game-changing legislation has opened new doors, enabling startups to raise funds directly from their communities.
However, Woodie emphasized that success doesn’t end with raising capital; compliance and communication with investors are equally crucial. He noted that many companies fail to meet the SEC’s annual reporting requirements, which can harm both their reputations and future fundraising efforts. To address this, Woodie and his team developed carfiling.com—a tool designed to simplify annual compliance filings for entrepreneurs using Regulation Crowdfunding.
For startup founders leveraging Regulation Crowdfunding, Woodie’s story serves as both an inspiration and a practical guide. He transformed skepticism into groundbreaking legislation and continues to innovate within the space. Woodie believes that Regulation Crowdfunding is not just about democratizing capital—it’s about fostering trust and accountability between entrepreneurs and their communities.

How to Develop Connecting As a Superpower
Woodie described his superpower as “connecting,” and he shared a heartfelt, personal perspective on what that means. “When my son was three…he said, ‘I’m connecting to your love battery.’” For Woodie, connection isn’t just about relationships; it’s an energy that powers humanity. “We as humans rely on other humans…to recharge us in ways that bring validation to who we are.” Professional and personal connections—whether partnering with colleagues or recharging through family interactions—drive his purpose and success.
Woodie’s son Max provided the inspiration for the children’s book The Love Battery, a metaphor on human connection. Max used to throw his legs over Woodie’s belly at bedtime and explained, “I’m connecting to your love battery.” This heartfelt moment shaped Woodie’s understanding of how vital connection is...

Watch the show on television by downloading the e360tv channel app to your Roku, LG or AmazonFireTV. You can also see it on YouTube.
Devin: What is your superpower?
Skip: Getting others on board and believing in being able to achieve a shared mission.
The housing crisis in the United States is staggering. Experts now estimate the country needs to build 10 million homes to meet demand—a near-impossible feat using traditional methods. Enter Lagom Development, a vertically integrated housing platform that combines innovative construction techniques with sustainable practices to make homeownership attainable for more people.
In this interview, Lagom Development’s founder and CEO, Skip Hulsey, discussed the company’s approach to tackling this massive problem. Skip’s solution involves integrating manufacturing, construction, and sales under one roof, leveraging Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) to build efficiently, affordably, and sustainably. “Our target is four hours from slab to a dried-in home,” Skip explained, emphasizing the remarkable speed at which they can build. “Instead of a weeks-long process, we’re delivering a fully insulated, weather-ready shell in an afternoon.”
Lagom Development’s homes aren’t just fast to construct—they’re energy efficient, too. Skip noted that owners see substantial savings on utilities: “By our calculations, it’s roughly equivalent to an additional mortgage payment every year in utility savings.” This groundbreaking approach reduces waste, shortens labor time, and cuts long-term energy costs, making it a win for both homeowners and the planet.
To scale its vision nationally, Lagom Development is raising funds through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. This democratized approach to fundraising aligns with its mission to make homeownership accessible. “Allowing retail investors to come along for the ride,” Skip said, “helps us extend the same end goal of accessibility to more families.”
Skip’s journey to founding Lagom Development reflects his lifelong commitment to housing. He began framing homes as a teenager, worked in manufacturing and real estate, and later earned a master’s degree in real estate development. COVID-19 served as a key turning point for him. “I saw that teachers, first responders, and service industry folks could no longer afford starter homes,” he said. Determined to find a solution, he created Lagom Development to reimagine what’s possible for housing.
For anyone interested in supporting or learning more about this impactful venture, visit Lagom Development’s crowdfunding page or check out its innovative SIP technology. Skip’s team is proving that with the right tools, partnerships, and approach, solving the housing crisis isn’t just possible—it’s within reach.

4/23/2026
Watch the show on television by downloading the e360tv channel app to your Roku, LG or AmazonFireTV. You can also see it on YouTube.
Devin: What is your superpower?
Mark: Ability to see problems as opportunities for improvement and innovation.
When the electricity goes out, having reliable backup power can make all the difference. Imagine a generator so quiet and lightweight that it can be placed right next to your CPAP machine or refrigerator in your bedroom. This is exactly what Mark Collins, CEO of Emission Free Generators Inc, has achieved with the Zen H2 Generator—a groundbreaking innovation in emission-free energy.
The generator works in tandem with proprietary energy cartridges filled with a unique, powdered material. When water is added, the cartridge produces just the right amount of hydrogen, which is immediately converted into electricity. Mark explained, “You only create the amount of electricity that you need to power that single device. It’s a very, very efficient way of supplying electricity to specific objects.”
Unlike traditional generators, which are noisy, smelly, and potentially dangerous due to emissions and exhaust, the Zen H2 is quiet, safe, and environmentally friendly. The system operates without high-pressure hydrogen storage or cables snaking across your home. “You can put this right in the bedroom next to the CPAP machine, safely, quietly operating,” Mark explained in today’s episode.
This innovation is especially valuable for people relying on medical devices or those interested in sustainable energy solutions. Beyond emergency backup at home, the generator also holds promise for areas in the developing world where access to electricity is limited.
Mark and his team are raising capital via Wefunder to bring the Zen H2 Generator into full-scale production. Crowdfunding was a natural choice for the company; it provided a way to test their product concept in the market and connect with stakeholders. “We’ve had over 400 investors… It’s taught us a lot about what people want, their comments, their needs,” Mark said.
Investors also have the opportunity to earn early access to the generator, making this campaign not just an investment in clean technology, but one in practical innovation that transforms lives.
The Zen H2 Generator has the power to change how we think about electricity both at home and around the world. With emission-free energy production that’s safe and easy to use, Mark’s invention could make noisy, traditional generators obsolete.

How to Develop Relentless Problem-Solving As a Superpower
Mark’s superpower is his ability to see problems as opportunities for improvement and innovation. He shared in today’s episode, “The main thing that keeps me really buoyant… is just looking at a problem and saying, there has to be a better way.” This passion drives his determination to create solutions that benefit not just a few, but entire communities.
After selling a company he had built over 11 years, Mark found himself at odds without purpose. He described being in a “heavy funk” during his brief retirement, struggling to find fulfillment. He rechanneled this energy into new opportunities by diving back into his natural gift for problem-solving. This led to the initial development of what would become the Zen H2 Generator, an invention focused on solving real-world challenges with clean, reliable power.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Eric: Ability to connect deeply with his heritage and channel it into meaningful work.
Climate change often leaves many wondering how they can make a real difference. Eric Pasi, the CEO of Enterprise Energy, believes he has an answer: invest in sustainable, renewable energy projects. During this episode of Superpowers for Good, Eric shared an exciting way to support the transition to a cleaner future while potentially earning great returns.
Eric outlined a bold initiative currently raising $400,000 on the Climatize platform to fund batteries in the Chicagoland area. Batteries are critical for creating a reliable, renewable energy grid by storing solar and wind power for peak demand periods. Eric explained, “We’ve seen a hockey stick growth in solar and wind deployment... now we need the grid to be more dynamic.” By enabling investments with low minimum contributions, Climatize is making it possible for virtually anyone to participate in funding climate solutions.
The project is made possible by Illinois’ innovative Clean and Reliable Grid Act. Signed into law in January, it opens new opportunities for distributed battery aggregation, a cutting-edge renewable energy approach. Unlike traditional solar projects requiring large swaths of land, a 5-megawatt battery project, Eric noted, “often needs less than one acre of land.” This efficiency unlocks the potential for swift, scalable development.
Enterprise Energy has already demonstrated success with its previous projects. Eric shared, “Last summer, we raised development capital on Climatize for community solar in Illinois... we’ve closed financially and will be repaying investors early.” The proven track record highlights both the viability of these projects and Eric’s commitment to investor trust.
Eric’s long-standing passion for renewable energy is evident. Since entering the field in 2007, he’s developed over 500 megawatts of solar power. This new focus on batteries represents the next step in his efforts to revolutionize energy systems.
With Enterprise Energy’s transparent approach, promising returns, and tangible environmental impact, this crowdfunding campaign is an inspiring opportunity for investors to align their money with their values. The campaign can be explored online via Climatize and the QR code shared during the episode. This represents an exciting chance to support a resilient, cleaner energy future.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Nadia: Listening.
Nadia Tedeschi’s invention—a radically redesigned bedpan—solves a painfully overlooked problem in healthcare. This innovative device addresses the indignity, discomfort, and inefficiency of traditional bedpans, which have remained largely unchanged for over a century.
Nadia, a former nursing assistant, was inspired after witnessing patients endure pain and humiliation. “I had a patient look up at me through her tears and say, ‘Nobody should have to live like this,’” she shared during the interview. That experience led her to create Mylo Medical Supplies’ flagship product, the MyloPan.
The MyloPan’s unique design features an inflatable component with a built-in disposable mechanism. Unlike rigid, outdated bedpans, this upgraded version slides flat under patients, inflates to a customizable comfort level, and hygienically seals waste without requiring movement. This approach not only restores dignity for patients but also alleviates physical and emotional strain on nurses. “The current device causes more problems than it solves,” Nadia explained. “We turned every pain point into a feature of our innovative bedpan.”
To bring the device to market, Mylo Medical Supplies is raising funds through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on NetCapital. Crowdfunding allows the team to build a community of advocates, including caregivers and patients who directly understand the importance of this innovation. “We wanted to make sure we’re the company bridging the gap between medical device companies and end users,” Nadia noted. “Crowdfunding felt perfect for creating that network.”
The MyloPan is more than just a medical device—it represents compassionate innovation, fostering real change in healthcare. Crowdfunding also makes investing accessible to everyone, so patients, nurses, and others can help drive this initiative forward.

Nadia’s dedication to listening became evident early in her career as a nursing assistant. On one of her first shifts, she witnessed a patient endure overwhelming pain and humiliation while using a bedpan. The patient tearfully said, “Nobody should have to live like this.” Though her supervisor dismissed the situation as standard practice, Nadia couldn’t let it go. The experience stayed with her, ultimately leading to the prototype...

Devin: What is your superpower?
Roberto: Ability to “channel empathy” as the key skill that drives his success.
When Roberto Milk, Co-founder and CEO of NOVICA and Handmade.com, and his friends were still in college, they dreamed of building a business that could change the world. Today, they’re achieving that vision at scale by empowering artisans in developing economies to sell their handmade goods directly to consumers. Since its launch over 20 years ago, NOVICA has sent over $142 million to more than 10,000 global artists.
“We wanted to figure out a better way [for artisans] to access the market,” Roberto explained. “We built a system around being close to the artists through these Artisan Empowerment Hubs.”
These hubs—located in countries like Bali, Brazil, Peru, and Guatemala—allow artisans to set their own prices, access 0% interest microcredit, and retain control over their creations. The model also preserves cultural heritage by sustaining endangered art forms while fostering economic independence for artisans, many of whom are women supporting families in their communities.
Roberto’s personal connection to this mission is rooted in his family history. “My grandmother on my Peruvian side was an artisan,” he shared, revealing his understanding of the challenges talented creators face. Artists are often geographically distant from buyers and hampered by middlemen, leading to slim profits despite their valuable craftsmanship. NOVICA addressed this gap by restructuring supply chains and creating digital tools to remove barriers for artisans.
Now, NOVICA is raising capital for its next phase of growth by broadening investor participation through a StartEngine campaign. On the platform, anyone—not just accredited investors—can invest in NOVICA for as little as $300. Investors also gain perks like discounts or elevated customer status on NOVICA’s website. “It’s almost like democratizing on the investment side,” Roberto said, emphasizing how the crowdsourcing model aligns with the company’s mission.
Driven by their success, Roberto and his team recently launched Handmade.com, a complementary marketplace that leverages AI to help artisans manage their own product listings, allowing NOVICA to scale globally.
“We’re eyeing the $100 million mark,” Roberto shared. “With Handmade.com and other innovations, we’re positioned to grow quickly while staying true to our mission.”
By building solutions that uplift global artisans, NOVICA demonstrates how social entrepreneurship can make a lasting difference—preserving culture, creating livelihoods, and connecting communities.

Handmade.com expands NOVICA’s mission by using AI to help artisans self-manage product listings.
Roberto credits “channeling empathy” as key to overcoming obstacles and driving social impact success.
How to Develop Channeling Empathy As a Superpower
When asked about his superpower, Roberto identified the ability to “channel empathy” as the key skill that drives his success. “The process of building a social impact company is really hard,” he explained. “Channeling empathy...has helped us push through and succeed because there was no plan B.”

Devin: What is your superpower?
Suresh: Ability to blend strategy, vision, and action to expand organizational and personal impact.
Swan Impact Network takes angel investing to the next level by combining traditional financial returns with social impact. Led by Executive Director Suresh Sundarababu, the organization serves as a lifeline for mission-driven founders determined to tackle societal challenges. In today’s episode, I spoke with Suresh about the innovative approach at Swan, including how they’re reimagining the world of angel investing.
“We equally care about impact and return on investment,” Suresh explained. “Any good value proposition can also be good for the world.” Swan Impact’s model creates opportunities for even smaller investors, lowering thresholds to democratize angel investing. For accredited investors, the required minimum investment is just $5,000—shattering traditional barriers to entry that often lock out purpose-driven individuals.
Swan’s approach also welcomes younger members into the ecosystem, providing them with the time and mentorship opportunities to participate meaningfully even before fully entering the world of angel investing. “The associate group… allows for those who care about impact, especially the younger generation, to come in,” Suresh shared.
The organization actively supports high-impact businesses across sectors like clean tech, life sciences, financial empowerment, and education. Among its many success stories are Skyven Technologies, a clean tech company maximizing the efficiency of industrial steam use, and Binary Bridge, which offers portable medical records solutions for underserved, remote areas in developing countries.
But Suresh insists Swan’s role extends far beyond writing checks. He explained, “Writing a check is the least of what we want to be known for… More important are the knowledge share, the bouncing board that founders don’t usually have.” Swan’s ability to provide strategic guidance ensures the businesses they fund are not just surviving but thriving.
Under Suresh’s leadership, Swan Impact Network is proving that purpose and profit can go hand in hand. By opening doors for diverse founders and democratizing angel investing, the organization exemplifies how capital can be a force for good in the hands of those strongly committed to creating a better world.
If you’re looking to support—or become—a founder driven by purpose, Swan Impact Network might just be your next step.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Dan: Ability to unite people around a meaningful mission.
America’s deepening polarization is creating profound challenges. Democracy depends on finding common ground, yet politics have entered an era of what Director and Producer Dan Partland calls “extreme negative hyper-partisanship.” In a recent conversation, Dan discussed his upcoming documentary, UNFIT TOO, a sequel to his widely acclaimed film #UNFIT, which dissected the psychology of Donald Trump. This time, he seeks to look beyond Trump and Trumpism to examine how America can navigate out of this political and cultural divide.
Dan explained the gravity of the situation, emphasizing how populism on both the right and left distorts democracy. “Populism is really about power...a ruthless majority,” Dan said. “Democracies can easily slip into that...what the study of psychology tells us is that these people are frequently...compelling...but it isn’t necessarily good for the world.” Building on this analysis, the new documentary explores how polarization, populism, and societal divisions threaten democracy’s core values of negotiation and representation.
The concept behind UNFIT TOO takes the mission one step further: finding actionable strategies for individuals and communities to bridge the gaps between ideological divides. Dan sees this challenge reflected everywhere—from political discourse to fractured family dinners. He explained, “Every single family has been affected by this negative hyper-partisanship...What’s the appropriate disposition towards that problem? How do you engage with people who you feel so different from?”
As compelling as #UNFIT was in analyzing Donald Trump’s leadership style, this sequel focuses on solutions. Dan noted that UNFIT TOO isn’t just about diagnosing the current crisis but finding pathways to a more collaborative and functional democracy. The documentary aims to give audiences practical tools to discuss and address difficult, deep-rooted divides.
Dan and his team are raising capital for UNFIT TOO through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. This approach reflects Dan’s belief that business interests and philanthropy can align to create both cultural and social impact. Those interested in supporting the project can visit the campaign at s4g.biz/UNFIT.
The success of #UNFIT, which became the top-selling documentary on Apple and a cultural phenomenon, is a testament to Dan’s ability to tackle controversial and challenging topics in a meaningful way. UNFIT TOO promises to be equally impactful—a documentary that not only informs but also empowers Americans to reclaim the true spirit of democracy.
tl;dr:
Dan Partland’s new documentary UNFIT TOO explores solutions to America’s extreme polarization and populism.

The sequel aims to provide tools for healing divides within families, communities, and broader political contexts.
UNFIT TOO is raising funds via Wefunder, where business and philanthropy align for cultural impact.
How to Develop Mission-Driven Leadership As a Superpower

Mark: Refusal to give up, no matter the obstacles.
Mark Elenowitz, CEO of Nant Global Finance, is transforming capital markets by creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to raise capital and for everyday investors to participate in early-stage investments. Using regulatory innovations like the JOBS Act, Mark has developed strategies to make capital formation easier, faster, and more accessible. His work effectively democratizes Wall Street, opening doors for smaller businesses and leveling the playing field for individual investors.
Mark explained how the traditional investment model excluded non-accredited investors from participating. “The rich were getting richer,” he said, “while everyday Americans who wanted to support businesses and be part of their growth were left out.” Regulations like Reg A+ under the JOBS Act have changed the game, allowing companies to crowdfund investments while offering liquidity through public markets. This enables “individual investors to get the same access the Wall Street elite always had.”
Mark Elenowitz, CEO of Nant Global Finance, will be speaking at SuperCrowd26, featuring PurposeBuilt100™. His session, "What Actually Scales: What Survives and What Doesn’t," will offer invaluable insights into building sustainable, scalable ventures. Don’t miss this chance to learn from an industry innovator. Register now at https://supercrowd26.com
Nant Global Finance is leading the way by utilizing these updated frameworks to innovate the capital markets. In 2017, Mark spearheaded the first Reg A+ company to go public on the New York Stock Exchange. Since then, similar groundbreaking successes have followed, including the public offering of Newsmax, which raised capital from over 30,000 investors. These milestones highlight a future in which smaller businesses can access public markets without the overwhelming costs associated with traditional IPOs.
Part of Mark’s mission is to support entrepreneurs who start their journeys with limited capital and resources. Through regulated investment crowdfunding campaigns, Nant Global Finance provides a way for smaller businesses to generate significant capital in ways that mirror traditional IPOs. As Mark noted, “Customers can become shareholders, and shareholders can become customers—it’s self-fulfilling.”
Mark’s approach to capital markets is clear: combine technology and progressive regulations to create wealth-sharing opportunities on an unprecedented scale. Whether you’re a business owner with a bold vision or an investor eager to support innovative ideas, this model offers a tangible path to meaningful impact.
By creating these opportunities and reconnecting public markets with smaller enterprises, Mark is building a Wall Street that serves both investors and entrepreneurs alike.

My mother taught me to do good inside the world,” Patrick shared. These foundational values have shaped an extraordinary career infused with purpose.
At Global Market Intelligence & Media, where he serves as CEO, Patrick’s vision is rooted in building connections that create “win-win-win-win” outcomes. He explained, “I think there’s no reason why we can’t do business in such a way where it enhances everybody—the person doing the business, the person receiving the business, and all the others involved.” This commitment to equitable, human-centered solutions is the hallmark of his work.
Patrick also hosts a podcast called Global I Am, which highlights inspiring stories and groundbreaking ideas across culture, finance, and innovation. Through his podcast, he amplifies voices from diverse backgrounds while demonstrating the ways business and humanity can intersect to create meaningful change.
In addition, Patrick is preparing to release his highly anticipated memoir, Getting Deals Done, in August. The book promises to offer a behind-the-scenes look at his remarkable journey, blending personal stories with insights into capital market formation and strategies for creating impactful connections. “It’s my story in many ways, but also the story of several mentors,” Patrick said, offering listeners a glimpse of what’s to come.
Patrick’s belief in the transformative potential of finance has deep roots. Drawing on examples like his efforts to diversify funding and catalyze financial empowerment, Patrick reminded listeners that true impact is driven by relationships and shared vision. “It always comes back to recognizing what’s special about the people with whom we engage on a day-to-day basis,” he emphasized, illustrating how purpose and profit can indeed coexist.
This conversation inspired me to reframe finance as a tool for collective good. Patrick masterfully shows us how the financial world can serve not only economies but also humanity, often bridging cultural and economic gaps to create opportunities that matter.
With leaders like Patrick paving the way, we’re reminded that our superpowers—whether insight, vision, or empathy—can be real changemakers in every facet of our lives.

Entrepreneurs often face a daunting challenge when it comes to raising capital to grow their businesses. In today’s episode of Superpowers for Good, I had the pleasure of speaking with Tyrus Shivers, CEO of Legacy Wealth Capital Group Inc., about how his organization helps entrepreneurs overcome these obstacles. His approach is both methodical and inspiring, offering practical solutions for founders who want to scale while staying true to their purpose.
Tyrus emphasizes the importance of making a business “investable, bankable, and built to scale.” His team at Legacy Wealth Capital Group dives deep into the structure of each client’s business, ensuring that systems, processes, people, and financial controls are in place to support growth. He shared, “We help everyday entrepreneurs, everyday founders look deeply into their business and put in the right systems... so they can scale and continue to grow that business as they receive the capital to do so.”
One standout strategy Tyrus employs is educating entrepreneurs about alternative funding options, such as Regulation Crowdfunding (Reg CF), which allows businesses to raise up to $5 million annually from both accredited and non-accredited investors. This approach opens doors for founders who don’t fit the mold of traditional bank or venture capital funding. He noted, “They don’t even think about the crowd. They don’t know the crowd exists… So, one of the key things we like to do at Legacy Wealth is to educate first.”
Tyrus’s commitment to empowering underserved communities was especially inspiring. Drawing from his upbringing in South Alabama, he understands the systemic hurdles faced by minority and underserved entrepreneurs. His mission is clear: “I want to make sure the people that come from where I come from, the people who look like me, also have the same opportunities.”
By focusing on education and creating access to capital, Tyrus and Legacy Wealth Capital Group are helping entrepreneurs turn their dreams into reality. Whether through crowdfunding or other innovative approaches, his work is a testament to the power of combining purpose with business.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Deepak: Ability to “send the elevator back down” for others.
For many young professionals, navigating the early years of their careers can feel overwhelming. Developing a career out of a job is a challenge, especially when support from employers is often minimal. In this interview, Dr. Deepak Bhootra, founder of RISEUP@work, shared details about his innovative platform designed to help 21- to 30-year-olds build thriving careers.
Deepak, who has spent 15 years as an ICF-certified coach and holds a doctorate in job satisfaction and organizational commitment, explained the gap he’s aiming to fill. “Fifty years ago, HR would say, ‘Yes, it’s my responsibility to build your career.’ Today’s HR says, ‘Building your career is your responsibility.’ That is a huge difference in the employment contract,” he observed.
RISEUP@work provides young professionals with tools, coaching, and a structured environment to navigate career progression. Deepak likened the platform to a “mega mall,” where users can find guidance on everything from preparing for a performance review to managing emotions at work. He emphasized that the experience, not just the technology, is key to success. “It’s not an app. It’s a consumer experience that helps you manage your career professionally,” he said.
One of the motivations for creating RISEUP@work came from watching his two sons enter the workforce. Despite their academic success, they faced challenges similar to those Deepak encountered decades earlier. “The economic impact of making bad decisions at work is immense, but the psychological impact is just as painful,” he shared. RISEUP@work aims to address these challenges early, helping users avoid costly mistakes and achieve compounding career success over time.
Deepak also discussed raising capital for the platform through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. He believes this approach aligns with his mission, empowering the very people he seeks to serve to support the project.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Deep: Being able to continue to evolve and navigate the changing environments… and showing up every day in a positive mindset.
In today’s energy landscape, with rising utility costs and aging power grids, the need for energy independence has never been more urgent. Deep Patel, the Founder and CEO of GigaWatt, has spent nearly two decades addressing this challenge by helping people generate and store their own electricity using solar panels and battery storage.
Deep started GigaWatt in 2006, bootstrapping the company from his parents’ garage into a thriving enterprise with annual revenues exceeding $60 million since 2019. His mission is simple but powerful: to empower individuals with energy independence and reduce reliance on traditional utility grids. “We are bringing power back to the people,” Deep explained. “By having their own solar panels and battery storage, they can avoid the grid most of the time.”
Solar energy isn’t a new idea, but its accessibility has transformed dramatically. Deep noted, “Fast forward to 2026, we’re finally at the stage where solar panels and battery storage are affordable for the normal person.” This shift makes it possible for more households to achieve grid independence, even as electricity rates continue to soar.
One key factor in GigaWatt’s success is its user-friendly software, enhanced with AI tools. Designed to simplify energy management, it optimizes solar and battery usage for maximum savings. “The software from the solar industry is written by engineers for engineers,” Deep said. “We’re making it so a layman can understand how to operate this system—without an electrical engineering degree.”
GigaWatt is currently raising funds through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine, inviting people to invest in its mission. Deep sees this as an opportunity for supporters of clean energy to join the movement. “There’s a lot of people just like you, Devin, that believe in solar and storage and would want to put some money into it,” he explained.
By combining technical innovation with a clear social mission, Deep and GigaWatt are empowering homeowners to take control of their energy future. This is more than a business—it’s a movement aimed at creating a cleaner, greener world.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Jane: If something goes poorly, I’m like, okay, how can we fix this?
Rob: I don’t really accept constraints... I want to always find a way around the issue.
Imagine a drive-thru where you can order your favorite coffee with a single app click, arrive at the pickup spot, and leave in seconds—no line, no waiting, no tipping. This seamless experience is the vision of Jane Lo and Rob Whitten, co-founders of p!ng, a fully automated drive-thru system designed to solve the inefficiencies of traditional drive-thrus.
The idea was born out of frustration. Rob, a robotics expert and father of three, described how bad drive-thru experiences with his daughters inspired the project. “My three daughters made me go through a bunch of drive-throughs. It was a terrible experience, and Jane told me to stop complaining one day and just fix it,” he shared. Jane, a marketing and customer experience expert, immediately saw the potential. Together, they combined their skills to create what Rob calls “the nerd’s revenge for bad drive-throughs.”
The technology behind p!ng is as impressive as its simplicity. Customers use an app to place their orders, which are prepared only when they approach the pickup location. Sensors and geofencing track vehicles, ensuring orders are ready precisely when needed. Rob explained, “We wanted you to leave p!ng feeling victorious and like you’re living in the future. It’s nice and simple on the surface, but underneath, there’s a bunch of really cool tech happening.”
Jane and Rob’s innovative system is already making waves among consumers, who appreciate the speed and ease of the experience. “Our customers were like, ‘This is amazing. Why doesn’t this already exist?’” Jane said. Yet, traditional venture capitalists often didn’t understand the scope of the problem. “If you’re someone wealthier, you probably have an assistant or a fancy espresso machine. You’re not likely to be in that drive-thru lane,” she explained.
To fund their vision of revolutionizing drive-thru convenience, the pair turned to regulated investment crowdfunding on Wefunder, where everyday people can invest in their mission. “It’s awesome because good customers make great investors and vice versa,” Rob noted.
By combining cutting-edge robotics with a deep understanding of customer needs, Jane and Rob aren’t just solving a problem—they’re creating an entirely new experience. p!ng shows how innovation and impact can work hand in hand to redefine convenience.
tl;dr:

Devin: What is your superpower?
Kurt: Thinking outside the box.
Providing clean water to people in need is one of the most impactful ways to change lives. In this episode of Superpowers for Good, Kurt Avery, the founder and president of Sawyer Products, shared how his company is addressing two of the world’s deadliest problems: unsafe drinking water and mosquito-borne illnesses. With innovations rooted in simplicity, affordability, and durability, Sawyer is transforming villages, saving lives, and improving livelihoods.
Kurt explained that their life-changing water filters originated from kidney dialysis technology. “If you can clean blood, you can clean water,” he said. The filters are small, portable, and capable of removing bacteria and other harmful contaminants, making any water source drinkable. “We don’t care if the cows are pooping in it or not. We just don’t care. We’ll make it drinkable,” Kurt assured.
Sawyer’s filters have already improved life for over 40 million people worldwide, with a one-time investment of as little as $0.30 per person providing clean water for up to 10 years. “Within weeks, people aren’t sick. Within months, they’re starting to shut down medical clinics because there aren’t enough sick people,” Kurt said, emphasizing the profound transformation that access to clean water creates.
Beyond water, Sawyer’s insect repellents, including a new clothing treatment, are making strides in fighting malaria. A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that using Sawyer’s treated baby wraps reduced malaria rates in children under two by 57%. Kurt expressed optimism that this could climb to 90% with further development.
What’s most inspiring about Kurt’s work is his commitment to reaching the people who need it most. Sawyer’s products have been staples in disaster relief efforts worldwide, from earthquakes to hurricanes, where they provide immediate, life-saving access to clean water.
As Kurt put it, “Half the world dies of mosquito bites or bad water. And I’m sitting there going, we’ve got the two solutions. Let’s do this.”
Sawyer is now at a pivotal moment, scaling its operations to help millions more. With their new tap filter technology and a goal to impact 40 million lives annually, Kurt and his team are inviting others to join their mission. “$0.30 a person. That’s pretty good for 10 years,” Kurt said, highlighting the incredible value of their solutions.
By leveraging innovative technology and a passion for doing good, Kurt Avery and Sawyer Products are demonstrating how business can create profound global impact.

Devin: What is your superpower?
John: Ability to believe without evidence.
In what world does it make sense to have the most important two parts of the value chain have the least power? That is the question John Tabis asked before launching The Bouqs Company. By recognizing that both flower farmers and consumers were being ignored by the traditional floral industry, he found a unique way to disrupt the market.
In today’s episode, John shared how his company deploys technology directly at the source. Instead of flowers passing through five or six layers of middlemen, farmers cut, prep and pack the product to send directly to the consumer. This model drastically reduces waste and increases freshness.
“We thought, what an amazing opportunity to build a new supply chain that simplifies that supply chain, uses technology to deliver the freshest, high quality, sustainable blooms,” John explained.
Since launching with just a few thousand dollars in the bank, the company has generated over a billion dollars in gross revenue. Customers love the value and they deeply resonate with the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
Now, John is taking community engagement to the next level. The Bouqs Company is currently raising capital through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign. This allows loyal customers and everyday investors to own a piece of the business.
John noted that turning a customer base into an investor base creates a massive crowd of brand promoters. When people invest in a company they love, they naturally share its mission with friends and family.
The current regulation crowdfunding campaign is capped at $5 million and is filling up quickly. The funds will be used to expand their physical retail footprint nationwide to offer faster delivery and fully arranged vases.
If you want to support a sustainable business model and own a stake in a rapidly growing brand, this is a remarkable opportunity to align your investments with your values.

John relies on his superpower of unending faith to navigate the toughest entrepreneurial challenges successfully.
In today’s episode we learned that combining strong convictions with flexibility drives massive business growth.
How to Develop Unending Faith As a Superpower
John defines his superpower as having unending faith. He describes it as “the ability to believe without evidence” and notes that as an entrepreneur he consistently has faith in a better future. He believes that “there’s a better step ahead” and that “a better version of ourselves, of our companies, of our products [is] around the corner.” This unwavering belief serves as the absolute cornerstone of his journey as a founder.
A powerful example of this faith occurred during the company’s Series B fundraising round about eight or nine years ago. The business was burning cash and was literally weeks away from running completely out of money. John’s VP of finance asked when they should pull the emergency cord to start cutting costs. Relying on his unending faith, John told him not to worry. Just four or five days before their cash ran out, they received a term sheet and successfully closed the capital needed to keep the business thriving.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Kevin: Persistence and flexibility.
What if we could double the energy output of existing wind farms without using more land? Kevin Wolf, CEO and Co-founder of Wind Harvest, has been working to make this vision a reality. His team has developed vertical axis wind turbines that harvest turbulent winds near the ground, a resource previously considered unusable.
The idea isn’t new; vertical axis turbines have been attempted for decades but failed to overcome engineering challenges. “The turbulent wind has stopped all other technologies from being able to make use of it,” Kevin explained. “It took a long time, a lot of money, and a lot of prototyping of full-scale prototypes…to finally have this product ready for the market.”
The key innovation is a patented hinge system that solves a critical weakness of vertical axis turbines—mechanical stress on the blades. “Vertical axis turbines have failed for decades,” Kevin said. “The problem is they rotate 15 million times a year…every rotation, there’s a pull with a blade like an airplane wing and a push as it comes around the other side. That connection point breaks…[but] if you put a hinge, all that micro movement is taken up in the hinge.”
The potential impact of Wind Harvest’s turbines is enormous. By placing them on existing wind farms, they can double the energy output per acre in ideal locations without requiring new infrastructure or land. “We can double the wind farm energy output with our turbines,” Kevin emphasized. He noted that this approach also avoids the costs and environmental impacts of developing new wind farms. “It’s a much faster way of developing new wind farms…as opposed to taking raw land, new habitat, and converting that into a wind farm.”
Wind Harvest is raising capital through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine. This effort allows small investors to support clean energy innovation. Kevin explained the unique challenge of funding such groundbreaking work: “There is a lot of doubt at the level of the venture capitalists…they want us to finish the third-party certification.” In the meantime, crowdfunding has allowed Wind Harvest to bridge the gap and move closer to commercialization.
You can find more about their campaign on StartEngine (Top 15 in amount raised on StartEngine.) and be part of an investment opportunity to drive clean energy forward.

Devin: What is your superpower?
Milton: Believing in oneself.
Black history isn’t just something to study; it’s something to feel, experience, and celebrate. This is the powerful message I took away from my conversation with Milton Bowens, the fine artist behind Milton 510 Studio. Milton’s work doesn’t just depict history—it reimagines it as a living, breathing force that connects the past, present, and future.
Milton shared how his art draws inspiration from Black history and pop culture to create a unique, layered narrative. “I chose history,” Milton explained, “because I always wanted to be able to just have something that I could reference that would re-energize or re-spark my creative curiosity.” His work focuses on centering the African-American experience, blending historical elements with vibrant colors and textures in his mixed-media art.
One of the most compelling aspects of Milton’s creative process is his use of storytelling techniques inspired by filmmakers like Ken Burns and Spike Lee. He described how this influence shapes his work: “If you look at my collage works, you’ll see that I deal primarily with the figures in black and white, and everything else around it is in this bold, vivid color. I’m making a visual reference that this is the information, this is the focal point.”
This approach is both artistic and deeply educational, as Milton sees his work as a tool for sparking important conversations. For example, he and his wife recently created a 26-piece fine art alphabet series celebrating pivotal moments in Black history. This collection has traveled to multiple venues, including Alabama State University, and has been adapted into a set of collectible flashcards to make Black history accessible to more people.
This year’s Black History Month holds special significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the event’s recognition by the U.S. government. Milton spoke passionately about its importance: “Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the founder of Black History Week, set out to make this celebration about making sure that African American young men and women understood the contributions that African Americans had made and were making to America and society.”
Milton’s art is more than something to admire—it’s a call to action. It reminds us that Black history is American history and that we all have a role to play in preserving and celebrating it.

How to Develop Believing in oneself As a Superpower
Milton believes his superpower is the ability to believe in oneself. Devin: What is your superpower?
Dr. Anshu: Thinking outside the box.
Preventable blindness in Haiti affects countless lives due to the lack of accessible eye care. Dr. Anshu Chandra, founder of the Global Eye Project, has dedicated her career to solving this crisis. Since 2015, her nonprofit has worked to provide free eye exams, advanced treatments, and a sustainable care model by training local staff.
During today’s episode, Anshu shared how her transformative journey began. After witnessing the dire conditions during a mission trip to India, she decided to focus her career on providing eye care to underserved communities. “I saw how much need there was for eye care and how rare it was for people to have access,” Anshu explained. This realization ultimately led her to Haiti, where the need for care was “so tremendous” she couldn’t look away.
In 2015, she moved to Haiti with two suitcases—one filled with personal items, the other with medical equipment. Partnering with a local hospital, she established a clinic that has grown into a vital resource for the entire country. The clinic has provided over 132,000 free eye exams and performed more than 7,000 advanced procedures, including laser treatments and surgeries.
But the impact doesn’t end there. Anshu’s commitment to sustainability has led to the training of local staff, many of whom now run the clinic independently. “Some of my staff members are orphans, and they’re now supporting their families and caring for their community,” she shared.
The Global Eye Project is now raising $300,000 to build a new facility that will expand its services. The proposed clinic will include a surgical center and an optical lab, enabling the nonprofit to become more financially independent. It will also allow the team to continue offering free consultations to ensure no one is turned away.
By addressing a critical need with compassion and ingenuity, Anshu is not only restoring sight but also creating opportunities for individuals and communities to thrive. You can support this life-changing work by visiting GlobalEyeProject.org and contributing to their campaign.

How to Develop Thinking Outside the Box As a Superpower
Anshu’s superpower is her ability to think outside the box to solve complex challenges. Reflecting on her work, she explained, “I didn’t see a reason why this couldn’t happen. How hard could it be to go there, put up a clinic, and train locals?” Her innovative mindset enabled her to approach Haiti’s eye care crisis creatively, building a sustainable model that trains locals to provide care independently.
One of the most striking examples of Anshu’s superpower is how she started her clinic in Haiti. Arriving with minimal resources, she trained local staff by having them practice on volunteers. Without advertising, word spread, and lines of patients formed. Over time, she transformed a rudimentary clinic with dirt floors into a well-equipped facility with 11 exam rooms, advanced diagnostic tools, and a sustainable care model.
