In late September, U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a shock announcement: that it was issuing a Withold Release Order on Giant Manufacturing -- a move that bans bicycles, bicycle parts, and accessories manufactured in Taiwan. ICRT’s Tim Berge speaks with Thomas Foguenne, a composer originally from Belgium, but who now splits his time in Taiwan, where he has created soundtracks for movies, shows, and more. His most recent project, Stranger Eyes, garnered him recognition at the 2024 Golden Horse Awards and the 2025 Taipei Film Fest, where took home the respective awards for Best Original Score. Former AmCham head Rob Parker Recalls ICRT's Early Days

In late 1978, Taiwan faced one of its most impactful challenges, when Washington announced plans to switch recognition to Beijing. Fears rose over Taiwan potentially losing one of its strongest allies. Members of the international community also worried about many other practical concerns, such as the continuation of English-language radio in Taiwan, and international schooling for their children. American lawyer Rob Parker played an important role in helping Taiwan through this difficult time, including actively lobbying for passage of the Taiwan Relations Act, establishing International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT), and Taipei American School. ICRT’s Tim Berge talks to Parker about his new book, "Derecognition", which gives a first hand look at this challenging time in history. Seven Days that Rattled Taiwan Business

It was on the first day of Taiwan's four day Tomb Sweeping (清明) Festival weekend that businessmen woke up to the news that Taiwan could expect a 32 percent%, on top of a standard 10% tariff on all its exports to the United States. But just hours after it took effect, that immense tariff was suspended for 90 days. How some businesses responded to the first announcement, and what it should do with the grace period is the subject of much discussion.
