I loved "banish distraction" and later "start loving Monday." I thought they did a good job of letting me know what was coming in bite-size chunks so I could consume it and think, "OK, but what about???" Then they would give me a little nugget. Their is a hint of selling going on (Life changing is not something I say often in normal life) but I know the goal is to help sell their Life Focus Planning System, but it wasn't too "Salesy." The kitchen garbage at the beginning floored me because I have no idea why anyone would leave that in, but once she got past that, she nailed it, IMO. She set it up well, teased me so I wanted to hear more, and his background was interesting to me because it all related to eventually becoming a bank robber. You were immediately frustrated when he was talking about fishing on the Mississippi whereas I knew right away it would lead to bootlegging. If I was wrong, it was short enough to give her the benefit of doubt (since it was my first time listening) that it would tie in somehow. From that point up until where you ended it, I think only a few words were wasted because while I would find a story about bank robbing interesting, I'm more fascinated by how he got there. At least as long as it ties in. If he talked about fishing and it was just a story about fishing, then that would have me scratching my head. Unnecessary was her imagery of pelicans at Alcatraz. It may have been interesting as part of her take at the end, but it seemed odd, boring, and out of place where she had it. There is one other thing where I think she failed - the title. Your tone of voice is nice and friendly. The content was good for an absolute finance beginner. What I Thought Could Use Some Polishing Nobody in the right mind will ever read that Apple intro. Apple doesn't index the intro so no need to keyword stuff the description. It wreaks a bit of Chat GPT. You could quit with the first paragraph (who is this for, how will the benefit). In your friendly delivery (are there podcasts they deliver in an unfriendly delivery)? You are reading and it's obvious. For me, that's a no-go. You read better than most people read, but you're reading. There was no personalization. There were no personal stories. There was no RALPH in Ask Ralph. Here again, I sense some Chat GPT. Everything was very high level, "Works for everyone" kind of content. This creates vanilla content (hence the "Meh") rating. It wasn't horrible, but I wasn't running to tell a friend. I loved the natural banter between the two. What I Thought Could Use Some Polishing The intro where you sing the intro is somewhat "Wayne's World, Pary On, Excellent." Depending on the goal of the show this might fit, but if you're trying to make a professional impression, maybe have a friend do some voice-over and buy a $5 track from Tunereel and blend the two. There is a hum in the background. Either turn something off or use something like the noise reduction in Hindenburg Pro. Some people leave the ums in, and some people (me) will remove the "low-hanging" ums. For me, it makes you sound more confident and prepared. Just a bit more planning to introduce the topic, and the book. If you're using one mic, go buy a second one (I like the Samson Q2U, and if needed a Podtrak P4 to record you, and then edit in software later). It just sounds a little 'bommy" like you're in a cave or fishbowl. I didn't hear an obvious benefit in your show, and for the record, I need to add one to this show. The audio sounds good, and your voice is amazing. The uniqueness of this show made it stand out, for me the sound effects were on an 8 and I was good with about a 6. The sound effects went from icing on the cake, to getting in the way of your answering the question you proposed. It went from cute to kind of weird. What I Thought Could Use Some Polishing I wanted to hear both sides of this argument, and the first host started, and the second one agreed and repeated (more or less) the same point. Then a third point was made that was more or less the first and FINALLY stated the other side. I wanted to hear about the desert buffet approach, and at 5 minutes in, after hearing the same thing repeatedly (hey, it's hard to decide what you want to be when you grow up). The audio that started off the show was not as good as the audio quality of the rest of the show. It wasn't horrible, but it was noticeable.
