5/1/2024

Podcast Episode Transcript: Check a Pro Joe here from the Check A Pro Radio show, you know, surge protectors have been around for a while and we use them a lot in our homes. We use them to protect our computer equipment. We use them to protect our television. Uh, anything we really don't want to have go poof in case there's a surge, but not only are there, these smaller ones, you can plug in for individual outlets and so forth for individual appliances. They also have them for the whole house. I've asked Rodney Jessen to join me from out today to talk about surge protection. Hey, Rodney, how are you doing? Great Joe. Hey, it is great to have you here. We all know what the surge protectors are that we can buy at the store, uh, to plug into a small appliance and there's different, you know, ranges of, of something that might cost $5 or one that might cost $150. Uh, but you even go beyond that, can't you? Yes, that's correct. Uh, uh, we can put in a surge protector that will protect the whole house. As a matter of fact, if panels are upgraded now or in new homes, they're required by the code, uh, the National Fire Protection Association. The people that write the code book have figured out that we all have so many electronics in our home and surges happened for a number of reasons that a AAA fairly ordinary surge could cost someone thousands of dollars. So that's the real important reason. Right. We don't wanna have to replace that television, that computer or that appliance as frequently because surges happen all the time. It's not necessarily when your power gets shut down and comes back up. Uh, there's these like many surges that happen constantly. Right. It's, it's, there's so much going on with the grids now and the different types of ways of generating power and transmitting power. And also there's been some malicious activity that will go on to affect the community's power and it's not just the computer anymore. Our refrigerators have circuit boards in them, our washers. I just got a washing, uh, a clothes washer that talks to my phone. So all of these can be affected by a search. Oh, and not only that, uh, of course, the garage door opener that has circuitry in it as well. Almost everything has circuitry in it. And, um, well, you know, like your router in your home, the modem, right. That could go poof real quick. And actually, years ago back when those modems were hooked up to the phone lines, that's where a surge would often come through where the technician will come out and say it actually got fried from the phone line because it could have been a bolt of lightning or something that came in through that copper into the machine. So you really wanna have the whole house protected and it's not that expensive, is it? No, in the, in the scheme of things, it's very straightforward and going back to the phone line and so forth while we're there. If a person was having us do that, we could also check that and there's a, a new, um, they call it a bridge ground where we can tie that into it. Someone's still using landlines and protect the home against it. Getting in that way. Or if you have cable coming in from the cable company, that's...

Podcast Episode Transcript: If you're like me you're really tired of not having enough hot water and you also want it pretty quick and you kind of want continuous hot water well there are products out there today that can get you continuous hot water so if your water heater is not keeping up with your needs well then you need to listen up Rodney Jason's joining me from out today and we're talking about how we can get a continuous and really instant hot water as well hey Rodney how you doing great Joe hey it's great to have you here OK so there's all kinds of different products that can help us out today right yes there he is you know back in the day I grew up in a house with one bathroom and we've used the shower pretty soon we run out of high water yeah that was you know comment so people wouldn't want to let you come up with a system right you only get 5 minute shower well you don't have to go through that anymore if people could leisurely take shower and maybe run a couple of showers and other things that require hot water wash clothes indefinitely the other great thing is that they don't have to pay when they're away from home or on vacation or what anytime they're not using their hot water to heat the same 50 gallons over and over and over so it's also the statesman also you're not sitting on that water so depending upon where that tank heater is it could cause a problem if it were to leak because 50 gallons is more likely to leak than the tankless which is just a pipe basically right yes so take the 50 gallon able rod out overtime and one example we came to a house in August they've been gone two months it was in the basement when we opened the door to the basement the water was ceiling height of the basement or at our feet so you could imagine what the basement smelled like that's you know that's just that's just a mess OK so you can get pretty much continuous hot water because the water lines running through this heater and it's just like it's like electricity right just keeps coming it keeps coming before I let you go aren't there some other ways also to get water hot at your sink or your shower quickly so you don't have to wait there for that water to come this is this is something I just love I have a long house and like I said earlier I like to play with everything before we put it out there I used to have to wait five minutes to take a shower I if I was doing the whites I would have to turn on the utility sink wait for hot water then turn on the clothes washer I within the system that keeps everything instant and now just for fun I'll go down to the other house and turn on the hot water and bang it's there right now yeah and I mean it's great a lot of people don't know that this type of technology exists when people think about plumbing it's like it hasn't changed much overtime and really it hasn't I mean for the most part a lot of us still have copper piping which is fine that's probably the you know the best old standby you know the other pipe before that galvanized and so forth and questionable there's new stuff today like pex and so forth but when we think about plumbing it really hasn't changed a whole lot if you buy a house that's 50 years old the plumbing might be just fine but...
