Directories, Trust and the Future of Wedding Marketing

4/22/2026
For years, wedding directories have been a frustration for suppliers. High prices, lofty promises and dubious quality enquiries. It's a topic that comes up constantly in photography groups and industry chats and it's one I wanted to tackle head on. In this episode I sit down with Zoe Burke, Head of Brand at Bridebook, for an honest conversation about the state of wedding directories today. We discuss why so many suppliers have felt let down, what Bridebook is doing differently with its pricing and packages and how the platform is shifting its focus from enquiry volume to genuine lead quality. We also talk about the future of directories in an AI driven world and the ongoing challenge of rebuilding trust between platforms and the supplier community. Zoe brings over a decade of wedding industry experience to the conversation and doesn't shy away from the difficult questions. If you want to understand whether a directory still has a place in your marketing strategy in 2025, this episode will give you a lot to think about. The best time to ask for food is.... - With Holly

4/15/2026
This week I talk to Holly, a wedding coordinator who I used to work with and I ask the hard hitting questions that us wedding photographers REALLY want to know. "When's the best time to ask if we are getting fed?" That and along with other questions, I delve into how things look from the other side of the table. What are wedding coordinators most stressful times? And of course, when is the right time to ask if we can be on their recommended supplier list!

3/11/2026
People tell me I shoot a lot of weddings. Well this week's guest, Kien makes me (and many others) look like we're not even trying! Oh and did I mention that Kien is a videographer....not even a photographer! In this week's episode, I sit down with Kien from KB Wedding Videography. The busiest videographer I personally know. His journey is unlike anything I've heard before. Kien talks to us about how he built is successful business, filming his first wedding at 11! Yes....11!!! Since then he's built one of the most consistently booked videography businesses in the UK. This is not a gear chat, instead Kien takes us on a journey of his mindset, how he operates and delivers such a high number of weddings without burnout.

Google Gate Revisited, The Other Side of the Story

2/25/2026
Nearly two years ago the wedding photography industry was ROCKED by what became known as Google Gate. A comment made by Luke Granger in a Facebook group explaining how Google Business Profiles could be removed from map listings quickly spread. What followed was chaos. Photographers reported disappearing profiles and vanishing reviews. Luke Granger became the face of the controversy. Since then, he has not publicly shared his full perspective. Until now. In this episode, I sit down with Luke to hear his side of the story. It's not an attack. It is not a takedown. It is an opportunity to understand what he believes happened and how it affected him and his family personally. You may agree with him, you may not. But without talking to each other and listening to all sides then we never learn anything. Listen in and decide for yourself. Luke Granger: Website

The First Year SMASHED! - Megan Maxwell’s Story

12/19/2025
In this episode, I sit down and chat with Megan Maxwell, a wedding photographer I met a year ago and I could immediately tell she was a breath of fresh air. Just one year ago, Megan took voluntary redundancy and took a huge leap of faith in herself to enter the wedding photography industry. We talk openly about how she's managed to build a thriving business in such a short space of time. Megan talks about all the people who supported her along the way, the education she's invested in and the lessons she's learned along the way. Watching her confidence, skill and business mindset grow over the last twelve months has been incredible and this conversation shows exactly why it was not luck but hard work and an investment in education that has allowed Megan to leapfrog ahead of her competitors. If you are at the start of your photography journey, feeling stuck, or wondering how to turn interest into consistent bookings, Megan’s story will inspire you too. Pizza, Prosecco and Podcast - Real Brides, Real Talk

11/8/2025
In this week’s episode, Daiga & I are joined by four amazing brides for honest chat about their weddings. I plied them with Domino’s pizza and prosecco to get them to talk honestly as we dive into how they budgeted, planned and made decisions for their big day. They share fascinating insights into their mindset. What they truly value, how they searched for photographers, videographers and what they truly think of content creators. I ask them all the questions you've always wanted to know but too afraid to ask! This episode is a goldmine of research for anyone working in weddings because it’s straight from the source, the brides themselves. If you want to hear what brides really think rather than what photographers think brides think then this episode is for you. Education Overload: How to Choose What’s Actually Worth Paying For

10/25/2025
In this episode, I’m diving deep into the world of wedding photography education and trust me, it’s a total jungle out there. When I started out back in 2012, there was hardly anything available. Fast forward to roday and we’ve got workshops, retreats, online courses, mentoring and every man and their dog seems to be an educator. So how do you know what’s actually worth paying for? I share my own journey. The good and bad. From How I found my own wedding photographer through YouTube, to investing in workshops, mentoring and conferences that shaped how I work today. I also talk about the red flags I’ve seen in the education world, including those who teach “six-figure success” but don’t actually shoot weddings anymore. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by choice, or unsure where to invest your time and money, this episode will help you figure it out. “It’s Not Your Fault, But It’s Still Your Responsibility”

10/6/2025
A cancelled flight, a budget hotel near Gatwick and a whole lot of lessons. This week Daiga & I reveal our destination disaster and recall some of our real stories of when things have gone wrong for us at weddings. From wrong dates to corrupted cards we explain what went wrong and how we plan for the worst so we minimise the chances of having an unhappy customer. This was not a podcast episode I was expecting to record but felt in the current circumstances it was topical. No video this week and forgive any audio issues, we recorded this whilst sat in our hotel room using an iphone only!

From 90 Weddings to Sanity: Matt Trott on Bookings, VAT & Balance

9/25/2025
This week I welcome back Matt Trott who was my very first guest on the podcast with one of the most popular episodes about how he rocketed from zero to 90 weddings in just 15 months during the pandemic. This time, we have a catch up about how he’s refined his business, reduced his workload to find the mythical work/life balance and built systems to help him make smart business decisions. We talk about: Work-life balance: Moving from 80+ weddings a year to a manageable 50–60, and why keeping weekends free matters. VAT and business strategy: Flat rate schemes and why it hasn't stopped his business growing. Data-driven decision making: How Matt tracks stats on everything including albums, sales cycles and client behaviour so he can make smart decisions. Albums that sell: Surprising stats on how long clients take to finalise albums, average profits and incentives that keep sales flowing. Marketing reality check: Hitched negotiations, SEO, Meta ads and how he is adapting to AI search Client psychology: Why clients are booking later, how to nudge conversions and the importance of asking lost leads why they didn’t book. Creative balance: Keeping the joy alive with new gear, workshops and the importance of showing images in our portfolio that impress customers, not other photographers!

9/17/2025
In this episode I share a behind-the-scenes catch-up and walk you through what I’m doing right now to prepare my business for 2026. From refining my website and shifting my style in a different direction, to experimenting with new marketing approaches and reining in my G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), I talkabout the steps I’m taking to make sure my business is booking consistently for 2026 and beyond. I also talk openly about what’s been working (and what hasn’t) in advertising, how I’m tackling RSI from long editing sessions and why I believe marketing, not editing is the most critical activity for any photographer who wants to succeed. What you’ll hear in this episode: Why I’ve changed the direction of my portfolio and website My recent website changes Why I'm no longer bothered about SEO and my early steps into AI Engine Optimisation (AEO) Preparing for wedding fairs What worked (and didn’t) with Google and Instagram ads Managing G.A.S. and resisting the temptation to continually buy new gear My ergonomic tweaks to reduce back, shoulder, and arm pain This one’s a mix of personal updates, lessons learned and practical ideas you can adapt for your own business.

Most importantly, it covers the core features I think most creatives need without paying for extras you don't need. It certainly looks like it has huge potential. Right now, Wedola is available at just £9 per month with a free 14 day trial a fraction of the cost of many other CRMs. So if you don’t already use one, or if you’ve been put off by complicated systems, Wedola is well worth a look. In this episode, Russell shares: Why he built Wedola and the problem it solves The key features every wedding photographer and videographer needs in a CRM His vision for making business tools more accessible to creatives If you’re searching for a simple, cost-effective way to manage enquiries, bookings and workflows, Wedola could be the perfect fit. The Wedding Unicorn: Bride, Coordinator and Content Creator in One

7/28/2025
In today’s episode, I’m joined by the brilliant Abi – someone I met recently at a wedding where she was working as a content creator. But as it turns out, she’s not just a content creator. She’s also a wedding coordinator at a popular venue with over 7 years of experience and a newlywed herself. Basically, she’s the trifecta of dream podcast guests all rolled into one human being! Abi kindly accepted my invitation to come on and share her unique perspective from all three angles. She talks honestly about her mindset as a bride when choosing suppliers, including how she chose her photographer, whether she booked a videographer or a content creator for her own day, and what mattered most to her during that decision-making process. She also shares what it’s like working behind the scenes at weddings, her experiences with photographers on the job, and offers some fantastic tips for how photographers can build better relationships with venues and coordinators. This one is packed with useful insights and real talk about the industry from someone who’s seen it all. Why Wedding Prices Haven’t Budged & What You Can Do About It

7/15/2025
This episode was inspired by another podcast I recently listened to that got me thinking deeply about prices of wedding photographers and why our rates haven’t shifted much over the years. Daiga and I take a deeper dive into what we think are the reasons. It’s not just market saturation. It’s about mindset, fear, peer influence and some uncomfortable truths you may not want to hear. We also share actionable tips to help you raise your prices, no matter what the rest of the industry is doing. If you’ve been scared to raise your prices, this one’s for you. Have your say: We’d love to know what you think. Join the conversation in the Wedding Photography Unveiled Facebook group or send me a DM. I’m always happy to chat with fellow wedding photographers.
