10/24/2023
Welcome to another exciting episode of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast. In today's episode, we have a special guest who has been a legendary voice in the world of bass fishing. Our longtime announcer and the voice of the LBAA, Don Day, has decided to retire. While we'll miss him, we're excited to have him on the show to share his incredible stories and his unwavering support for women in fishing. Don Day has had a remarkable career in the industry, starting from his early days in South Georgia, where he spent countless hours fishing and hunting with his dad. Even during his time in the navy, he never lost his love for the outdoors. His broadcasting career began, and he eventually crossed paths with the founder of B.A.S.S., Ray Scott. They became friends, and Don had the opportunity to work with B.A.S.S., which marked the beginning of his relationship with the organization. One of the most memorable experiences in Don's career was a trip to Iraq with Ray Scott in 2004. The purpose of the trip was to thank the men and women in uniform and support them with fishing gear and other supplies. Don describes the emotional time he spent with the troops, reflecting on the impact they had on him and Ray Scott. It's clear that these experiences have shaped Don's perspective on life and the value of the outdoors industry. Don also shares his journey as an emcee, particularly with the women's bass fishing tours. He had the opportunity to work with the WBT (Women's Bass Tour) and eventually became involved with the LBAA (Ladies Bass Angler Association). Don's passion for supporting women in fishing shines through as he talks about the anglers he's met and the growth he's witnessed in their careers. As we wrap up another successful LBAA season, we reflect on the ups and downs of fishing and how even the greatest anglers can have their challenging days. Don reminds us that it's not just about the fish but also the behind-the-scenes details that make each angler unique. Join us for this captivating episode as Don Day shares his extraordinary stories, insights, and unwavering support for women in fishing. You won't want to miss it! Cassie highlights her challenges, such as finding enough space to store all her fishing gear. With multiple bags and numerous fishing rods, she has become the subject of good-natured jokes from fellow anglers. Cassie humorously describes her truck, when filled with fishing supplies, resembling a well-stocked store. However, she admits that keeping the fishing rods organized and tangle-free is critical.Cassie actively plays a leadership role in the LBAA, leading meetings with newcomers to the organization to discuss various topics, such as safety, sportsmanship, and personal health. She stresses the significance of being transparent about swimming ability to ensure everyone's well-being during fishing outings. Additionally, she shares her enthusiasm for introducing new members to tournament fishing with some who have never participated before. Cassie acknowledges her inexperience in tournament fishing but highlights the tremendous growth and sense of accomplishment one can achieve through this journey. The conversation takes an inspiring turn as John shares the story of a young fishing prodigy named Rosie, who was previously featured on the Fish Nerds podcast. At just eight years old, Rosie represents a new generation of fishing enthusiasts and finds solace in an inclusive world that props her dreams and aspirations. Cassie reminisced about her childhood when women in fishing were underrepresented in media and magazines. However, she celebrates progress, with women now constituting 30% of the fishing community. This increased representation motivates young girls like Rosie to pursue their dreams fearlessly. Thanks to Fish Nerds for this engaging collaboration featuring valuable insights into co-angling, women's representation in fishing, and the sense of community that binds anglers together.Check out this captivating episode - find the link to The Fish Nerds podcast in the show notes to add them to your fishing inspiration repertoire!Mentioned in this Episode:Fish Nerds PodcastGlasswater AnglingLady Bass Anglers AssociationSupport Our Partners!Full episode notes available at thewomanangler.com/296Learn more about your ad choices.
