In this episode, I chat with Veronica Meewes, the gal behind the book entitled Texas BBQ, the Art of Low and Slow. Veronica spent three years traveling around Texas, gaining a thorough knowledge of barbecue, eating some of the most delicious food, and listening to some amazing stories. Along with these stories, this beautiful denim-covered book displays some stunning illustrations from several familiar photographers. I personally used it as a kind of yearbook while I was at the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival, getting folks to sign it for me, and I plan to carry it with me when I make my barbecue runs so I can fill it up! In this episode I take you with me to the Monterrey BBQ Fest!! The first BBQ event of its kind & the first KCBS competition ever, in Mexico. I believe we also had the first Texas Pitmaster to wrestle a luchador in Mexico as well!! It was an incredible time and I’m happy that I get to share part of the experience, with you! This event was the best BBQ event that California has ever seen. We had some of the TOP Barbecue Pitmasters from across the country. We also had the pioneers of Craft Barbecue from California and some of the up and coming beasts of Cali BBQ. If you didn't make it out, I'm sad you missed out but at least I hope to provide a taste of the action. I was able to interview quite a few of the pitmasters, there were 40+ so unfortunately I wasn't able to interview all of them, but we had some great representation. In this Episode, I chat with my buddy Derrick Walker from Smoke-A-Holics Barbecue in Fort Worth Texas. Derrick has been slanging BBQ for many years, he was doing popups before popups were cool! He's a BBQ World Champion and this year he was part of Mexico's 3rd place finish in the World Championship on a team led by Mexico's biggest BBQ ambassador Luis Rivas. We Kick-Off Season 4 with my conversation with Dayne and Ashley Weaver of Dayne's Craft Barbecue. Stories like theirs is why I have a podcast in the first place. Although you might think of struggle and sacrifice when you hear them share their experiences, but that's not really how they felt. Their Strong belief in each other and the hard work and determination that's instilled in them made it feel like oh well it's just another day, we can work extra hours and just get through it.
