The Kauaʻi duo of Kūpaoa, Kellen and Līhau Paik, have released a new album of Hawaiian music called Hoʻokele . They stopped by 'Kanikapila Sunday' to talk about it and to play songs in our studio. Līhau Paik says she wrote the title song for her father, who’s a mentor in her life.

Hōkū Zuttermeister’s Music Blossoms in Latest Release

Hōkū Zuttermeister is from a family that is renowned in the world of Hawaiian music and hula. His great-grandmother Kauʻi Zuttermeister composed the classic ‘ Nā Pua Lei Ilima.’ Hōkū’s debut album in 2007, ʻĀina Kupuna , won six Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards. His latest release is called Kuʻu Pua Sakura. He wrote the title song for his mother, comparing her to a sakura , or cherry blossom. HPR’s Derrick Malama asked Hōkū why he chose that flower for his mother.
