One More Christspiracy Review

3/26/2024
Christspiracy - the documentary that is a bit under the radar right now but probably will make an appearance to the general public soon. From the filmmakers of Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy, and more comes a third documentary to fill out the trilogy of how we answer the animal question. I don't want to give away all the "meat" of the documentary, but let's take 25 minutes and walk through a few of the suppositions, theories, and proposed evidence to take a deep dive into our rationale of eating meat, and what are possible reasons to eat less or no meat, including the spiritual side of things. These are my thoughts based on watching the movie and parsing together other literature and research I've done in the past to ponder vegetarianism and veganism in this podcast. To jumpstart the conversation, if it is difficult or impossible to spiritually slaughter an animal for food, there are three follow-up questions to consider that I ask at the end of this podcast, as we think about the spiritual journey with animals as co-living systems in our universe. Matt Fetissoff - Entrepreneur, Gardener, Father and Chef - Merging Permaculture and Plants into a Vegan Holistic Lifestyle

2/5/2024
Matt Fetissoff and his family began growing food on their little slice of Fort Collins, Colorado land in 2013. Years before, Matt learned about the industrialization of modern food starting with the book The Omnivore’s Dilemma, then a little film called Food Inc., and subsequently permaculture from people like Adam Brock and Brad Lancaster. These experiences revealed how important growing your own food can be, and soon his mind was full of garden plans while his heart focused on feeding his family. It wasn’t long before his kitchen was overflowing with everything from squash to tomatoes, challenging him to put the harvest to good use. Around that time his family tried to purchase sustainable locally raised meat, eggs, and dairy, but there was lingering doubt that their lifestyle was just. Then in the spring of 2017, he and his wife had a big conversation about some undercover footage she found on the internet and were frustrated that they had supported such energy-intensive and unbelievably cruel industrialized farming practices for so long. From that day on they were vegan. Not long after, they saw the films Cowspiracy, Seaspiracy, and The Game Changers which helped fortify their lifestyle change, and it was clear to see that leaving animal products behind meant exploring cooking and recipes in an entirely new, beautiful & healthy direction. Food has driven Matt’s life in some big ways, including his work with the non-profit The Growing Project where he helped grow crops, organize events, and cook communally shared meals at their educational garden using ingredients freshly harvested on-site. He has also contributed to the food gift economy culture which developed from his time with the Northern Colorado Permaculture Guild, where he helped organize workshop events & cooked shared meals for volunteers. With the Guild, Matt has been able to bring permaculture to a wider audience while befriending an emerging community of skilled volunteers who share their time and energy out of love for the movement. And his decade participating in community events has also inspired the creation of his own permaculture design & yardscaping business, Common Roots. https://www.instagram.com/stories/gardenerinthestars/ http://www.nocopermacultureguild.com/ https://commonrootscolorado.com/ Favorite influencers: https://www.youtube.com/@DerekSarnoChef https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/ https://www.instagram.com/bensvegankitchen/ *********************************************** If you enjoyed listening to this podcast, please be sure and click to subscribe and receive the latest podcast and introduction to another wonderful individual who is celebrating their life at any age! Wendy Grono knows healthcare’s ins and outs from an executive-level position. But 18 months ago, some cardiovascular health problems moved her to take a deep dive into the world of improving her health through dietary changes. Moving gradually to a plant-forward lifestyle, Wendy’s results of dramatically lowering her lipids and cholesterol and pushing her pre-diabetes into remission now motivate her to be a proponent of eating at least 80% plants. How to Eat Plant-based on the Big Island

4/8/2023
The Big Island is a dream. Volcanos, fern forests, cobalt blue vista views, and more. But did you know it was rated one of the most vegan-friendly states in the United States? This was comforting news as we were preparing our travel arrangements for a February trip. As a plant-forward chef and a full-on vegan husband, it’s a conundrum of where and what to eat when traveling. But, good news, Hawaii had a lot to offer the plant-based traveler! So let’s chat about how to eat plant-based on the Big Island with some off-the-beaten trail options. As I did my research, I found many restaurants and cafes that offered plant-based options. From tofu to jackfruit to complete vegan cafes, I felt confident that if we wanted to go out to eat, we would have no problems at all. Rarely did I find a non-chain restaurant that didn’t have at least one vegetarian or vegan option – and it wasn’t spaghetti marinara. Yes, Hawaii prizes its ahi tuna, homegrown beef, and pork, but there is an uptick in the interest in plant-based or vegan lifestyles possibly because they are ocean-bound and self-sufficient, or catering to many visitors. Although Oahu is the most vegan-friendly Hawaiian island, (bigger metro areas, more visitors, I get that) I give my hats off to the Big Island and its interesting options if you know where to look. Enjoy these ideas for eating plant-based on the Big Island! Men and Meat - a Vegan Guy’s Perspective

3/27/2023
Evan Mimier is a longtime vegan who is happy to discuss plant-based eating with anyone who is interested in the topic! As a male vegan with a background in motorcycle mechanics and construction, he is certainly accustomed to being the only vegan in his circles. But as eating fads targeted at men, like the keto diet and carnivore diet, come and go, he continues to eat a whole food plant-based diet since the best longitudinal nutrition studies and his own before-and-after blood work supports that this is the optimal diet for disease prevention! 10 years ago, eating vegan was inherently more health-promoting than the standard American diet. But with the rise of the meat and cheese alternative industry, most of which is owned by the meat and cheese corporations themselves, Evan asserts that one must minimize the use of these substitutes to truly experience the health benefits of plant-based eating these days! www.nutritionfacts.org www.Instagram.com/nimai_delgado https://www.instagram.com/lewishamilton/ https://www.instagram.com/cp3/ https://stephencabral.com/ https://www.drjoelkahn.com/ If you enjoyed listening to this podcast, please be sure and click to subscribe and receive the latest podcast and introduction to another wonderful individual who is celebrating their life at any age! Making ”Mattering” Matter - How to Improve the Veterinarian Experience with Josh Vaisman

2/14/2023
Josh Vaisman, MAPPCP, CCFP - CoFounder & Lead Positive Change Agent, Flourish Veternary Consulting Leading a veterinary hospital is friggin’ hard work, and Josh understands the struggle first-hand. He has been a proud member of the veterinary community since 1998. In 2009, he took the leap into practice management and ownership and continued in those roles in two small-animal hospitals until 2018. A lifetime optimist and overall “happy guy,” Josh was shocked to find himself feeling spent, alone, and crying over breakfast while his surprised wife looked on with disbelief. Recognizing he had burnt himself out, he made the difficult decision to step away and recapture his authentic self. Since then he’s dedicated his professional trajectory to elevating veterinary staff and teams, so they can authentically flourish in their work. To that end, he’s obtained certificates in areas such as Positive Psychology, Workplace Culture, and Building Effective Teams and a Master's level education in Applied Positive Psychology & Coaching Psychology. He co-founded Flourish Veterinary Consulting LLC to bring the knowledge he's obtained to life. Josh lives in Colorado with his amazing wife, 3 insane parrots, 2 rescue pups who occasionally share the king-sized bed, a 7 lb cat known as the “Golden Child,” some fish tanks, and a few beehives. In his free time, he enjoys teaching about beekeeping, playing indoor soccer, and dreaming about moving to Kauai.
