The SPLC has created a guide for parents of children with disabilities titled “Helping Your Child With a Disability Get a Good Education,” including state-specific guidance for parents in Louisiana and Mississippi. Article: Coalition trains advocates of children with disabilities in Mississippi The Office of Special Education website is designated to provide important information to families of students with disabilities. Links to a variety of resources are provided related to child developmental milestones and ways to help your child succeed in school. If you are unable to find answers to your questions on their site they suggest you contact their office at 601-359-3498. On the Mississippi Department of Education’s Office of Special Education website, you can access the Access for All Guide which was developed by the MDE in collaboration with educators across the state to help teachers address issues that impact learners with a wide variety of needs. I would hope that having access to this information might help families better understand the classroom environment. How to they propose to do it? What are the options for the prisoner to stop it? We’ll learn with our guests: Krissy C. Nobile, Director of The Mississippi Office of Capital Post-Conviction Counsel, Beth Windham, an attorney with CPCC, and attorney David Voisin. According to the MS Department of Corrections: Since Mississippi joined the Union in 1817, several forms of execution have been used. Hanging was the first form of execution used until 1940. Then the electric chair was used until 1952. In 1954, the gas chamber was installed at the Mississippi State Penitentiary and used until 1989. After that lethal injection was used. How many ways can a person be executed in Mississippi? During the 2017 regular session of the Mississippi Legislature, lawmakers amended the law to allow death sentences to be carried out by lethal injection, nitrogen hypoxia, electrocution, or firing squad. The recent municipal elections have shown every vote counts. Are you ready for Augusts special primary? Today’s Legal Term on In Legal Terms: The Posse Commitatus Act We’ve got some news you’ll want to know if you drive OUTSIDE of the state of Mississippi. In 30 states, including Alabama and Tennessee, as of June 5, 2025 a new law takes effect to ban all handheld device use while driving. This includes calls, emails, texts, or using the internet. Devices cannot be accessed even at a stop light or traffic jam. It’s called the Touch Law. What a wild election process last week – and it is still not over! By state statute, whenever a race is tied, it shall be decided by a coin toss or a drawing of straws. And toss a coin is what a Rankin County Justice Court Judge had to do when the Pelahatchie Alderman’s ward one race was a tie at 34 votes each. Our lawmakers passed a budget for the state. How would you feel if you needed to go to court or conduct legal business but weren’t fluent in the language? H.B. 1217 became law July 1, 2023. The new laws prohibit Limited English Proficient individuals from being responsible for the costs of court interpretation in all bilingual proceedings for civil and criminal matters. The law also now clarifies that a Limited English proficient individual is entitled to the services of an interpreter in any instance arising out of or pertaining to the individual’s involvement in litigation. Mississippi Municipal elections are Tuesday, June 3rd. It got us to thinking about our two main political parties.
