GAR! 177: The Flash and the Colors of Evil
10/29/2017
This week's episode of The GAR! Podcast includes discussion of the following: the Agatha Knife game; the Nintendo Switch; Mario, Bowser and the hat game; white racist gloves; Carmine Infantino, the Flash, and the Colors of Evil; The Return of Barry Allen; generational superheroes; best and worst candy; Sugar Daddies and nougat; Trump trick or treat; Ray goes off on the opioids crisis; "Green Acres" in 2017; evil Alex Trebek; and the morality of Granny Clampett.
(Ray here. Boy, did I go off on the opioid crisis in America. I really hope we do more to treat this in America. According to Glenn, I went off for about 20 minutes here. If you don't want to listen to me talking about the history of opioids in America, I totally understand. I'm not an expert, just an informed amateur. But if you'd like to learn more, I highly recommend this recent article in Esquire about Purdue Pharma and Oxycontin. In my opinion, the opioid epidemic is a uniquely American issue that requires a more sophisticated take than the old "just say no" slogan, and my heart goes out to everyone affected. And next week, I'll try to be nerdier.)

GAR! 172: The Prince Chronology, Part 1
8/30/2017
This week's episode of The GAR! Podcast presents a track-by-track album-by-album discussion of Prince's career from his first album For You through to Controversy, including the self-titled Prince and Dirty Mind, as well as the debut album by The Time and the only album release from Vanity 6. We also talk about the early days of The Revolution, the tours, album art, Billboard charts, covers, radio airplay, record store memories, analog television, Andre Cymone, Ready for the World, Taylor Swift, hackers, and our new Twitter feed.
And since it's about Prince, there's a mature content warning on this episode, because yeah, we're going to talk a lot about songs he wrote about vaginas. It is Prince after all.

GAR! 163: Lunch at the Camden Comic Con
5/15/2017
This week's episode of The GAR! Podcast is a long one, the incredible fourth of five episodes recorded live at the 2017 Camden Comic Con. First Glenn and friend of the show, the amazing Robert Repici, discuss the panels of the Con, including the one that they and Ray moderated later in the afternoon. They also discuss the guests of the panel – Amy Chu, Fred Van Lente, Dean Haspiel, and Larry Hama – the legendary silent issue of G.I. Joe, the Hydra Captain America, diversity in comics, the Justice Society, the Fox, and the art of storytelling.
Next, in a special French Fry Diary segment, the GAR! con crew (Jennifer Walker of The Make Mine Magic Podcast, friends of the show Jeff Milliman and Jessy Lukens, and the returning Ray) try some of the fries from the food trucks assembled by the Camden Comic Con, even the kimchi ones, which Glenn rightfully refuses to try. There's also more discussion of energy drinks, and anti-vaxers. Thanks to Stink Fisher of The Pop Shop for the awesome burger.
Then we finally meet the mythical David Lisa, the geekiest librarian in New Jersey, and the equally cool Janel Miller of the South Jersey Writers' Group, and we talk about the Echelon Mall, Michael Jackson's Thriller, computers, injectable contraceptives, old school phones, libraries, first movies, drive-in theaters, the etymology of dork, graphic novels, and of course, Fantastic Four. David recently re-read the first one hundred issues of the classic series, which made for an intriguing starting point for the discussion of the characters and the creators, favorite stories, the lost FF adventure, the Silver Surfer, reprints, Bullpen Bulletins, comic book movies, Avenger X, March, and the legacy and tragedy of Jack Kirby.

This week's episode of The GAR! Podcast is the first of five recorded live at the 2017 Camden Comic Con. During prep time at the Con, Glenn and Ray discuss recent Marvel Comics like X-Men, Captain America, Thor, and the Inhumans; talk diversity in comics; and remember legendary comedian Don Rickles.
The GAR! Podcast is the Glenn Walker and Ray Cornwall weekly podcast where they talk unrehearsed about whatever happens to come to mind. It's an audio-zine for your mind, a nerd exploration of a nerd world, coming to you from the suburbs of New jersey and the sunny lakes of Florida via Skype.
