Breaking Out of the Digital Prisons ft. The MoSo Media & Messaging Circle

2/12/2025
We've all felt the squeeze of technofascism scraping our data, suppressing our voices, and forcing our eyes onto their messaging like we're living in A Clockwork Orange. Well, the Media & Messaging Circle of Moneyless Society is plotting some ways out. As the voice and the first point of contact with our organization M&M seeks to inform and connect with our online community -- and now, encourage them to start taking more of their connection offline. We hope you'll come along with us to learn and grow in the real world, so we have a better shot of surviving the collapse we're starting to witness first-hand.

Cutting out the Middle Man from Politics ft. Mia Jacobson

8/4/2024
As Moneyless Society grows we want to introduce you to more of our members and the ways we're working to build alternative systems in our communities. And with the upcoming U.S. general election, this insight from our dedicated volunteer, Mia Jacobson, couldn't be more timely. As a longshoreman and member of a historic union herself, Mia understands how important it is for the boots on the ground to have a say in organizational decision-making. That's part of her reasoning for why elected representation is an outdated system of governance. In an age where almost everyone has access to technology that can inform them of what's going on, and allow them to engage with decision-making processes, there's no need to ask someone who doesn't know or understand them, to speak for them. Tune in to hear what other approaches are possible, and how other parts of the world are already putting them into practice. And look out for more episodes soon featuring other members of Moneyless Society, building a new world together that's based on care and community, rather than capital.

Climate Doom vs. Dark Optimism ft. Shaun Chamberlin

7/3/2024
"Dark Optimism is, in part, a perspective which is not afraid of seeking the truth — even when that truth is unpalatable or feels overwhelming. By exploring the unknown we can see it for what it is, rather than what we might fear it to be. Where there is darkness present we face it with an indomitable belief in the potential of life and humankind." Those words are from the website of our friend Shaun Chamberlin, a researcher, writer and activist continuing to carry the torch of giants like Michael Dowd, who brought us the "Post-Doom" philosophy. In this episode we let ourselves look at all the things we MIGHT NOT be able to accomplish in trying to save the world, and sit with what that means for our future. But realism is not pessimism, and seeing with clear eyes allows us to make this life meaningful, no matter where it leads.

Moneyless Society's First Gathering ft. Humans of MoSo

6/22/2024
This month, a group of core Moneyless Society volunteers met up in the scenic mountains of Kentucky to get a firsthand taste of self-sufficient living, discuss the future of the organization, and just generally revel in the company of comrades who have only been able to collaborate digitally for the past few years. During that time, we also recorded a podcast episode meant to introduce the world to a few of the hands helping build the coming transition, and to the larger community and mission making it possible. Listen in, and reach out to see how you can get involved in bringing about the next economic evolution of our world. We still have a long way to go, and a lot to learn, but if we've learned anything from our experiences so far it's that we have what we need to get there when we put our skills, knowledge, and passions together.

Capitalist Realism vs. Science Fiction ft. Cory Doctorow

6/5/2024
Science fiction is an effective way to put our current reality into context, and helps us imagine what our future might look like. For authors like Cory Doctorow, that fact is extremely useful in getting people to imagine what could be possible in a changed world -- and understand that changing the world IS POSSIBLE. On today's episode, we dive into all the ways that we give power to authoritarian social systems when we buy into their self-inflating social narratives. And how the people who control those systems deceive us into thinking that they are actually powerful sorcerers who possess obscure, ancient knowledge -- and not, as Doctorow says, just a bunch of charlatans sifting through the guts of a sacrificial goat. Follow Moneyless Society on social media for more revolutionary inspiration, and visit our website at moneylesssociety.com to join up as a volunteer. Get your hands dirty building a new world from the bones of the old one.

Legends in Alternative Currency talk Mutual Credit

5/26/2024
What if there was a way to acquire the things you need in life without having to grovel and scrape for money every day? What if we could instead provide and be provided for by one another -- keeping track of what we've contributed, and what we plan to contribute, without all the fake numbers and resource hoarding? That's precisely the focus of today's episode. Our guests are a panel of radical thinkers who have each in their own way broken out of the box of the financial status quo, and begun exploring realistic alternative ways to account for need with one another. Listen to learn, and see how you can begin applying these new methods in small ways within your own daily life!

How to Outsmart Economists with System Dynamics ft. Ty Keynes

5/8/2024
“We know more about black holes now, than we know about interest rates.” That’s Ty Keynes, explaining just how incomprehensible our global financial system actually is. And as a devout practitioner of Systems Dynamics, he has more than put in the legwork to try making sense of the mess. Imagine that you were able to create a model of what will happen in our world, based on the cycles that it tends to follow – that’s more or less what systems dynamics allows us to do. But when applied to capitalist economics, the results are chaos. They do show one thing clear as day, however: a capitalist system is guaranteed to destroy our biophysical environment at breakneck speed. And it will drag us through cycles of personal and collective misery along the way. By the end of this episode, you’ll see through Ty’s models how closely we can predict the future of our world if we stay the course we’re on currently. And you’ll understand why the most effective remedy for our situation is people making decisions together, and supporting each other on the road back to any kind of sustainable sanity.

Passing the Torch to the Last Generation ft. Noam Chomsky

4/17/2024
"There are problems of extreme urgency that will be solved in the near future, or we're finished." If you're an activist, linguist, or political analyst, then Noam Chomsky needs no introduction. But for anyone unfamiliar, Chomsky has shaped numerous generations of critical minds, and blazed the trail for organizations like ours attempting to change society at a systemic level. We're thrilled to have him on our show, and to ask what he sees for our future (if we have one) as a new generation of activists take to the front lines. The short is answer is that he believes in us and our chances if we can take this challenge seriously enough, keep our minds open, and do everything in our power to tackle these crises together. Otherwise, all of the wisdom that he's shared with us will die with us, and the next generation may well be the last. Follow Moneyless Society on social media for more revolutionary ideas, and fill out the volunteer form in our bio there to join us in creating a post-capitalist future!

The Next Evolution of the Venus Project

4/3/2024
Utopia isn't some final destination where problems no longer exist -- it's a constantly evolving process of self-evaluation and social cooperation. Jacque Fresco understood that when he and Roxanne Meadows started The Venus Project, introducing so many of us to the idea of a resource-based economy, and the ability to engineer our way out of our crises. Roxanne joins us on today's episode, along with her colleagues Nate and Theo, to discuss how The Venus Project is evolving today. Much more than a futuristic compound located in Venus, Florida, The Venus Project is like a whole new science being introduced to the world. And the goal of this new science is to harness human ingenuity and collaboration, teaching people to work WITH the nature around them in order to survive and thrive in the face of impending industrial apocalypse. Visit their website at www.thevenusproject.com, and be sure to follow them on Instagram, Facebok, Twitter, and TikTok.

GAZA FRONTLINES: Ramy & Sobhe Need You to Know What is Happening

3/30/2024
As buildings collapse on top of them, these two young men from Gaza are desperate to tell their story to the world, so that we will recognize and end the brutality their families are experiencing. It is the VERY SAME brutality that sweeps across African cobalt mines, American cop cities, and throughout history wherever there was land to steal and profit to squeeze from the people living there. Ramy is only 19, and was denied at the border when his family escaped, fleeing to find emergency surgery for his young sister. Sobhe is only 23, and his family was given 10 minutes to evacuate their home before it was bombed in front of them. Both have lost their dearest family members to shelling and stavation, and just want to be freed from this ongoing, hellish, and wholly undeserved punishment. Take a moment of your day to listen to the story from the mouths of the people living it -- rather than some sanitized and repackaged soundbite from the mainstream media. And donate any amount that you can to their fundraising campaigns linked below. We've already seen families get to safety, or at least get the food they need to survive, with simple campaigns like these. Even sharing their stories on social media improves their chances of being seen and supported, and of the world knowing what is really going on. GAZA FRONTLINES: Halaa and Mohammad Need Our Help to Escape GENOCIDE

3/2/2024
WHERE IS THE HUMANITY as we live-stream a genocidal war in Gaza against a captive, innocent people being wiped out by nuclear superpower of Israel, funded by the USA? The hope and humanity is in the people of Gaza themselves and in the response of people who care around the world doing their part to help. Moneyless Society is highlighting the real, heartbreaking, unimaginably horrific stories of regular people living through this nightmare with their families. We brought on Mohamad and Halaa, a doctor and law student to tell us their heart-rending stories of bombing, mass death of family members, and to use our platform to uplift their stories in the hope YOU will help. They're raising the money to buy their freedom, to buy the lives of their family from this monstrous system. They need $7000 a person to get their families out of a war zone, who are mostly sick and elderly or young children. This is a show about finding hope in the wreckage, it is a horrific but inspiring story of human goodness in the face of annihilation, and the amount of hope at the end-- entirely depends on how much YOU the listeners take up this cause and help. Campaigns here, donate and share, not just in social media but directly with people who will help! Halaa: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-hayas... Mohammad: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-to-sa...
