From the Frontlines: ADL Releases Campus Antisemitism Report Card

4/14/2024
"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast which brings listeners to the frontline in the battle against antisemitism and hate. A major frontline in this battle are our college campuses. Since October 7th, we have seen an unprecedented rise in antisemitic incidents at our colleges and universities, making Jewish students feel unwelcome, unsafe, and angry. A few weeks ago, this show focused on ADL’s Not On My Campus Campaign. This campaign directly addresses campus antisemitism. It has many elements to it, but overall, it focuses on two strategic goals. The first is to empower and provide resources for students, families, alumni and other stakeholders to ensure that campuses are welcoming places. This first strategy was discussed at length on the earlier podcast. The second strategic pillar goes right to the heart of the matter by holding universities accountable. This is done by means of a report card - a letter grade given to 85 universities to evaluate the state of antisemitism on campus and how schools across the country are responding. Those grades have just been released in time for students to make decisions about which schools to attend this fall. For some schools, it was a relief and a vindication of all that they have done, but for many others, it was a wake up call. ADL’s Senior Director of Advocacy Shira Goodman joined this podcast to tell us all of the details of the report card and to help us understand what it all means. To see the full report card and all of the details, visit https://www.adl.org/campus-antisemitism-report-card. For more information on the "Not on My Campus" Campaign, visit: https://notoleranceforantisemitism.adl.org/. This was recorded on April 12, 2024.

From the Frontlines: Is Anti-Zionism Antisemitism?

3/24/2024
"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast hosted by ADL New York/New Jersey Director Scott Richman. It focuses on ADL's efforts to fight hate and antisemitism in the United States and around the world. While the word Zionism once evoked romantic images of making the desert bloom and young people folk dancing on the streets of Tel Aviv, for a widening circle of people, it has become something nefarious, evoking the infamous (long-ago rescinded) UN Resolution of 1975 equating Zionism with racism. How did this happen? The central questions seem to be what is Zionism and conversely what does it mean to be an anti-Zionist and -- most relevant post 10/7 -- is anti-Zionism actually a form of antisemitism? Since the Israel Hamas war, these questions have become even more pressing. Vlad Khaykin joined this podcast to unpack all of this with depth and insight. He is is ADL’s National Director of Antisemitism Programs. ADL's resource on this topic can be found at this link: https://www.adl.org/resources/tools-and-strategies/what-antisemitism-anti-zionism-anti-israel-bias. This podcast was recorded on March 15, 2024.

From the Frontlines: An Essential Backgrounder for the Israel-Hamas War - Part 2

1/29/2024
"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast which brings listeners to the frontline in the battle against antisemitism and hate. If there were ever a frontline, it is Israel in the wake of the barbaric atrocities committed by the Hamas terrorist group on October 7th. Since that terrible day, so much misinformation about the history of the conflict, the players, the geography and so on has been circulating. To set the record straight, ADL Deputy National Director Kenneth Jacobson was the featured guest on an ADL NY/NJ webinar on December 14, 2023. He has worked for ADL for more than 50 years and lived much of the history that is being discussed. On that webinar, ADL NY/NJ Regional Director and the host of this podcast, Scott Richman, asked him a series of his own questions and of those who tuned in to the webinar. Kenny's clear answers and great insight were so well received that a slightly edited version of that discussion is now being released as a two-part podcast. This is part 2, and it focuses on the U.S.-Israel relationship, the prospect of a ceasefire, the history of Jews in the land of Israel, the legality of the State of Israel, the importance of Israel to the safety and security of Jews around the world, and Zionism, among other topics. From the Frontlines: Brothers and Sisters for Israel

10/14/2023
"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast which brings listeners to the frontline in the battle against antisemitism and hate. This was was supposed to be a time of preparation for a new season of "From the Frontlines" to air starting in January. However, nothing is the same in the face of Hamas' barbaric actions in Israel which resulted in more than 1200 people being murdered, more than 3000 injured, over 150 taken hostage at last count, and a world that is reeling from such savagery. In the face of this, the podcast is starting again and with one purpose - to bring to you the stories from Israel that must be heard. If there were ever a frontline, this is it. Until October 7th, Achim L’Neshek or Brothers and Sisters in Arms was a large and well organized group of reservists who were leading the pro-democracy movement in israel, organizing huge protests. That all changed on October 7th in truly extraordinary ways. Shai Lindner joined the show to not only tell his group's remarkable and immediate transformation from a protest movement to a humanitarian one, but also to capture this moment that we are in. He described the most inhumane atrocities as well as the most inspiring heroism of the past week. This very special podcast needs to be heard and shared.
