Weekly Best of Maino and the Mayor for Mar 15

3/15/2025
Nate Olson, a friend of the show and a leader in the community with Olson Legal Group, LLC in Oshkosh and Berlin, is back in the studio with the guys. He reminds us of his military service and talks a bit about the law he practices and some things his group can help clients with. He also shares great advice for end-of-life planning. We thank him for his involvement in the community and for his service to our country. Then we welcome the creative mind and community-minded Tavia Hopfensperger. She and her husband purchased the old fire station in Dale, and created Old Station 31 Spirits. Rob and Tavia explain what they do this way: from selecting premium ingredients and purest water to the meticulous milling, mash, fermentation, and distillation process, each step is a nod to tradition with a touch of modern artistry. With a family history in service to the community, their story AND their products, we're very thankful they joined us with the Maino & The Mayor Top Craft Pick Promotion. Make sure to vote for them! Maino and the Mayor is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 6-9 am on WGBW in Green Bay and on WISS in Appleton/Oshkosh. We talk movies to start the hour with Nathan Deming, a Wisconsin filmmaker who is in to promote the Green Bay Film Festival event coming up this weekend. His movie "February" tells the story of Miguel (David Ezekiel Duran), a recent immigrant to a small town in Wisconsin. A mysterious co-worker (Richie Gordon) invites him to experience ice fishing, and Miguel embarks on a night on the ice he will never forget. Then Makenna Mae and Jake Alan are in our Heights Pub & Parlor Music Series spotlight! Makenna and Jake are part of the group Grand Union, but they also perform as an acoustic duo. They knock our socks off with awesome music! A great way to end the week and kick off the weekend! Brandon Kinnard from NBC 26 joins to talk about the NFL Draft and what "we" know from the media side of things. Brandon says that while it seems that the NFL has things lined up properly from the fan side, they have work to do from the media side. He also wonders if the estimate of 250,000 people is on the low side. We agree. Then local artist Jay Jay joins the show to discuss a show coming up this Saturday night at the Epic Center. Sleezy Night will be a night of pure energy and raw vibes; tickets are around $35.
