Lakers Fast Break

The Lakers FINALLY finished off the Grammy trip with a stop in Brooklyn to face New York's other team, the Brooklyn Nets. And in Brooklyn, the long-awaited return of Austin Reaves (15 points) sparked the Lakers as they set the pace early, hitting 15 of their first 18 shots, to take a 45-23 lead after the first quarter. The Lakers from there put their up-tempo offense (31-18 on fast break points over the Nets) on cruise control with LeBron James (25) and Luka (24) leading the way in an easy 125-109 victory in Brooklyn. The Lakers continued the road trip in Chi-Town as they faced the Bulls on Monday night. And while it wasn't the most comfortable of wins, the Lakers managed to take a slim first-quarter lead and stretch it out with strong play from LeBron James (24 points) and forcing ten turnovers in the second to give the team a double-digit lead in the half. Chicago though, did their best to close the gap in the third, going on a run that would get them within one, but Luka Doncic (46 points, 12 assists) scoring 20 in the third and Rui Hachimura (23 points, 9-11 overall, 4-5 from 3) coming off the bench on fire helped pad the lead once again just enough to keep the Bulls from charging once again and get the 129-118 victory. But prosperity didn't hold (as was the team's focus) as they proceeded to get outscored on a Dallas 41-14 run to put the Lakers' chances of winning in peril. On what should have been an off day for the Lakers was anything but, as ESPN published a story from Baxter Holmes taking a deeper look at the sale of the team by the Buss family to Mark Walter. The Lakers on Thursday night looked to put some distance between themselves and the Suns and Rockets as they faced the Charlotte Hornets in the Crypt. And while getting off to a hot start (39 points in the first quarter-Luka with 19 of them) wasn't normal as of late, the bad defense against poor teams continued as the Lakers got lit up for 20 threes (9 by LaMelo Ball) as Charlotte with their shooting splits of 54-47-94 tore into the Lakers defense time and time again, and even with Luka Doncic (39 points) and LeBron James (29 points, 9 rebounds) making their share of the scoring, the rest of the roster could not slow down the Hornets as they pull away for an easy 135-117 win over LA. The Lakers come back home after getting embarrassed in Sacramento with the second in a back-to-back against the Atlanta Hawks. And after such a poor effort, for three of the four quarters they got the exact opposite with LeBron James (31 points 9 rebounds, 10 assists) playing in his first back-to-back feeling good, and Luka Doncic (27 points, 12 assists), Deandre Ayton (17 points, 18 rebounds), and the starting lineup all in double figures as they rocketed out to 81 point first half and kept the lead above ten throughout the rest of the game as they ended up cruising to a 141-116 victory over the Hawks.
