The Great Silence (1968) Review

4/29/2024
The Great Silence (1968) synopsis: “A mute gunfighter defends a young widow and a group of outlaws against a gang of bounty killers in the winter of 1898, and a grim, tense struggle unfolds.” Starring: Jean-Louis Trintignant, Frank Wolff, Vonetta McGee, and Klaus Kinski Director: Sergio Corbucci This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review The Great Silence! A fantastic spaghetti western by the director of Django (1966), and clearly an inspiration for a few scenes in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (2015). We highly recommend watching The Great Silence before listing to our review because the ending is quite a doozy! (Thankfully the Blu-ray has some less traumatic versions of the climax included on the extras lol) Leave a comment on our social media pages or Patreon and let us know what you think of this episode or the movie itself. Godzilla (1954) Review

4/15/2024
Godzilla (1954) synopsis: “American nuclear weapons testing results in the creation of a seemingly unstoppable dinosaur-like beast.” Starring: Akira Takarada, Momoko Kôchi, Takashi Shimura, and Akihiko Hirata Director: Ishirô Honda This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review the original Godzilla! That’s right, the one that kicked off an entire genre of films: Giant rubber monster movies! To be clear, this is not the version of Godzilla that came out two years later 1956 with Raymond Burr inserted into it. This is the original all-Japanese cast, and the superior version, in our opinion! Leave a comment on our social media pages or Patreon and let us know what you think of this episode or the movie itself. We always love hearing from you all! The Carpenter Factor Episode 6: The Fog (1980)

4/1/2024
The Fog (1980) synopsis: “An unearthly fog rolls into a small coastal town exactly 100 years after a ship mysteriously sank in its waters.” Starring: Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, and Hal Holbrook Director: John Carpenter This month on The Carpenter Factor, Zak and Corey are joined by Tim from the Talking Back podcast to discuss The Fog! Action, Action Swapcast: Nemesis (1992) Review

3/25/2024
Nemesis (1992) synopsis: “Alex, a burned out LA cyborg cop, is forced by commissioner Farnsworth to find his former cyborg partner and lover Jared who's about to deliver sensitive data to cyborg terrorists who wish to wage war against humans. Is he being played?” Starring: Olivier Gruner, Tim Thomerson, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Thom Mathews Director: Albert Pyun Since co-host Corey is currently in Japan with his wife, we’re releasing an episode of the Action, Action Podcast that he and Zak were on last year. 3/17/2024
This month on 80s Kids Unite, Zak, Dustin, Corey, and Diallo discuss which martial arts moves they wish they could do, growing up. TV Obscura - Robotech: The Macross Saga

3/11/2024
Robotech (1985) synopsis: “An alien spaceship crash lands on Earth and the technology and secrets she bears lead Earth into three destructive interplanetary wars.” IMDb Link This week on Podcasting After Dark presents TV Obscura, Zak, Corey, and Diallo review Robotech: The Macross Saga! The boys specifically talk about the US version Harmony Gold released in syndication in 1985, but they do discuss The Super Dimension Fortress Macross that came out in 1982 in Japan, thanks to Diallo’s immense knowledge of the topic. Zak rounds out the conversation with some background on the tie-in toys Matchbox released… but no one really owned. Knockabout (1979) Review

3/4/2024
Knockabout (1979) synopsis: “Two brothers and small time crooks Yipao and Taipao convince a martial arts expert to take them on as students, completely oblivious to his sordid past.” Starring: Yuen Biao, Ka-Yan Leung, Chia-Yung Liu, and Karl Maka Director: Sammo Hung This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review the kung-fu cult classic, Knockabout! A truly jaw-dropping piece of cinema from the mind of Sammo Hung, and it’s Yuen Biao’s first leading role. Also, Knockabout is Zak and Corey’s first true “karate man” movie on PAD, as Eddie Murphy would say in Trading Places lol! I mean, yes, they covered Hard Target and Cyborg, but this is on a whole other level, martial arts wise. A huge THANK YOU to Paulette for selecting Knockabout for us to review via our Patreon page! A movie Zak has been talking about bringing to PAD since they first started doing the show, and Corey, a first-time viewer, was not let down at all! The Gate is a fantastic kid-friendly cult horror movie that still holds up in 2024, especially the minions! And we aren’t talking about the yellow guys from Despicable Me lol! Zak, Dustin, Corey, and Diallo all discuss their familiarity (or lack thereof) with the disgusting trading cards Topps began printing in 1985, and whether or not they hold up nostalgically! The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue (1974) Review

2/12/2024
The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue aka Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (1974) synopsis: “A cop chases two hippies suspected of a series of Manson family-like murders; unbeknownst to him, the real culprits are the living dead, brought to life with a hunger for human flesh by ultrasonic radiation being used for pest control.” Starring: Cristina Galbó, Ray Lovelock, Arthur Kennedy, and Jeannine Mestre Director: Jorge Grau This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue! Yes, the film has other names, a lot of them, in fact, but this is the one the boys know it as so that’s what we’re calling it lol! Now that we got that out of the way, Zak and Corey are really excited to breakdown and review, Manchester Morgue. A film that both hosts love because, like Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things, it inhabits and interesting time in zombie movie history: A time before all the rules were really locked in by George Romero with Dawn of the Dead in 1978. Android (1982) Review

Android (1982) synopsis: “A strange doctor secretly experiments with androids on his space station. His assistant is Max, a curious android who wants to see the world and meet a girl. Criminals hide on their station and soon violence erupts.” Starring: Klaus Kinski, Don Keith Opper, Brie Howard, and Norbert Weisser Director: Aaron Lipstadt This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review Android! A Roger Corman produced film that’s so much better than it has any right to be. And if you think Don Keith Opper only plays dimwitted handymen, like he did in Critters, then you are in for a surprise! 80s Kids Unite L.A. Comic Con Panel

1/21/2024
Hey, PADsters! Here’s the audio from the 80s Kids Unite panel that Corey, Zak, and Diallo from Podcasting After Dark & TV Obscura did with Dustin Rubin and Paul London from Two Dollar Late Fee & Territory Marks! It was a packed house and a great crowd. We cleaned up the audio the best we could but it was recorded in an open room so don’t expect studio-quality sound lol! This also serves as an introduction to a new monthly series that will be dropping on both the PAD and Two Dollar Late Fee feeds called, you guessed it, 80s Kids Unite! Body Parts (1991) synopsis: “After losing his arm in a car accident, a criminal psychologist has it replaced with a limb that belonged to a serial killer.” Starring: Jeff Fahey, Lindsay Duncan, Zakes Mokae, and Brad Dourif Director: Eric Red This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review Eric Red’s Body Parts starring Jeff Fahey! A truly underrated horror/thriller from the early 90s, and a movie the boys are more than happy to cover on the show. With a stellar cast and awesome effects, Body Parts should please both the gore hounds and the lovers of fine cinema equally. You can quote us on that! Elves (1989) Review

12/25/2023
Elves (1989) synopsis: “A young woman discovers that she is the focus of an evil Nazi experiment involving selective breeding and summoned elves, an attempt to create a race of supermen. She and two of her friends are trapped in a department store with an elf, and only Dan Haggerty, as the renegade loose-cannon Santa Claus, can save them.” Starring: Dan Haggerty, Julie Austin, Deanna Lund, and Borah Silver Director: Jeffrey Mandel Merry Christmas! This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review Elves! This might be the darkest holiday movie the boys have covered on the show to date, and that’s saying a lot considering they’ve reviewed both Silent Night, Deadly Night parts 1 and 2! Sure, Corey’s isn’t technically Christmas-y but it was part of The Star Wars Holiday special so that counts, right? Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) Review

12/11/2023
Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) synopsis: “The now-adult Ricky talks to a psychiatrist about how he became a murderer after his brother, Billy, died, which leads back to Mother Superior.” Starring: Eric Freeman, James Newman, Darrel Guilbeau, and Elizabeth Kaitan Director: Lee Harry Garbage Day! This week on Podcasting After Dark, Zak and Corey review Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2! If you listened to our breakdown of SNDN Part 1 last year, you knew this was coming. I mean, how could it not? Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 is a quintessential cult classic. What it lacks in the music department (nothing beats “The Warm Side of the Door” from Part 1) it more than makes up for in pure zaniness. Also, Eric Freeman is a goddamn studfarm, and you can quote us on that! Leave a comment on our social media pages or Patreon and let us know what you think of this episode or the movie itself.
