20210422 Nicole Sandler Show - Thursdays with Howie Klein

4/22/2021
It's Thursday, so that means that Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny and the Blue America PAC is here. He's bringing some breaking news with him. I'm not sure what it is, but I do know it has to do with Ted Lieu, Tucker Carlson and really foul language. Lots of news to get to today too...

20210421 Nicole Sandler Show - 10 Years Later

4/21/2021
Today, we get in the wayback machine and go back a decade. On April 26, 2011, I attended what was billed as a Town Hall Meeting with my then-congressman Allen West. I tried to ask him a question about his vote to privatize Medicare. Instead, I was arrested and brutalized at the Broward County Jail. Today, we hear my first show back, during which I recounted all the details. It was April 28, 2011.

20210420 Nicole Sandler Show - Guilty On All Counts!

4/20/2021
The verdict was announced in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd right at the top of the show, and it was good news. He was found guilty on 2nd degree murder, 3rd degree murder and manslaughter. Guilty on all counts. It doesn't bring George Floyd back, but it's a huge win for humanity. Jack Rice, friend of the show and a criminal defense lawyer in Minneapolis checked in briefly. And we hung with Driftglass too...

20210419 Nicole Sandler Show - Guns Are Killing Us; Cops Are Too

4/19/2021
Closing Arguments are going on today in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the cop who killed George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for over 9 minutes last year. Since the trial began on March 29, at least 64 people have died at the hands of law enforcement nationwide. And since we were shocked back into reality on March 16, when eight people were killed at three Atlanta-area spas, the US has had at least 50 mass shootings. Perhaps by showtime, Chauvin's defense attorney will have wrapped up his...

20210416 Nicole Sandler Show - News, Music and Politics

4/16/2021
I'm glad this week is over. I can't even recite the mass shootings and cops who killed Black men (or boys) in the past week, because this shit has reached pandemic proportions. Or, more accurately, epidemic, as it's only here in the US. I did check in with The Intercept's Ryan Grim who broke the story this week about Democrats introducing legislation to expand the number of justices on the Supreme Court. He'll give us the story on that, plus weigh in on the PRO Act and DC Statehood. Then...

20210415 Nicole Sandler Show - Amazon/Labor Fail and Another Cop Killed Another Black Boy

4/15/2021
Let's start with the shooting. The boy, Adam Toledo, was 13 years old. A Chicago cop saw him in an alley in the middle of the night and began chasing him. He told him to show his hands. He appears to have dropped something behind the fence which has been reported to be a gun. BUT, the video and stills taken from the video clearly show Adam Toledo's hands in the air right before the cop shot and killed him. He was 13. We are a broken country. My guest today was Dave Jamieson, labor reporter...

20210414 Nicole Sandler Show - Out of Afghanistan with Digby

4/14/2021
Digby is my guest today. She wrote a great post (up at both digbysblog.net and Salon.com) about Joe Biden announcing we'll have our troops out of Afghanistan by 9/11, the 20th anniversary of that attack. I began the show talking about a few recent incidents of blatant racism, one of them featured a drill sergeant from Fort Jackson in South Carolina, attacking a young black man for simply walking down the sidewalk.

20210413 Nicole Sandler Show - Guns Down with Igor Volsky

4/13/2021
The past month has been devastating when it comes to guns in America. I mistakenly thought that we had gotten a bit of a reprieve during the pandemic. Well, maybe there was break in school shootings-- because the kids were out of school! As the nation returns to "normal," it appears so too are the numbers of shootings returning to pre-COVID levels. I had already invited Igor Volsky, founder & director of Guns Down America (gunsdownamerica.org), on the show for today, when the news broke...

20210412 Nicole Sandler Show - Enough with the Guns Already and Meet My Congressman

4/12/2021
It's Monday, the start of a new week, and things are really tense in Minnesota. The trial of the former cop who killed George Floyd enters its third week. And yesterday in Brooklyn Center, MN - about 10 miles away- a cop shot and killed another unarmed young Black man for no reason. And we learned about another cop abusing a motorist, this one in Virginia. We'll begin the show trying to make sense of what's happening in this country. Then we'll be joined by my Congressman Ted Deutch. He...

20210409 Nicole Sandler Show - About Joe Manchin with Robyn Kincaid and Jack Rice on Week Two of the Trial

4/9/2021
We made it to the end of another week. This was week 2 of the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. We'll check in again with Jack Rice, criminal defense attorney based in the Twin Cities and friend of the show, to wrap up the second week of testimony. But we'll begin with our Manchin problem. Joe Manchin, that is. I'll talk with Robyn Kincaid, a fellow progressive radio host who's lived her whole life in West Virginia to explain everything...
