Yesterday 2nd of Spt. 2021 marks Eighiaras. Three days of celebrating with such bajans are dedicated to my late mother in law. Six Bhajans - Ekadasi, Bhamri Gita, Phrlahad ni Party, Krishna's birth, Bal Lila, and Krishna's Chatria.

This is a story of Okhabai (also known as Usha), daughter of Banasura, who dreams of a suitor, Aniruddha, grandson of Lord Krishna. Through black magic he gets abducted to her palace. The two fall in love but a battle rages between the Lords Shiva who had given powers to Banasura like ten powerfull arms and Krishna. Moral of this story: ego and power causes war, chaos and misery. It's how you learn from all this that gives you peace.

This story is about the love and trust present between a disciple and his guru and between the disciple and God. The story also depicts an unconditional love shown by God towards his devotee where he would do anything for his devotee and take care of him when his devotee needs him.

Theme: Truthfulness. This story is about King Harishchandra who ruled Ayodhya many years ago was a very truthful and honest man and never lied. Listen to what he and his family had to endure in order to fulfil a promise made to a sage who was testing him.

Seth Sagalsha lived in Junagadh with his wife Changavati. They had taken a vow to only eat after feeding someone else first. Listen to the story of how God himself took a test to measure his devotion .

Naradji or Narada (Nara meaning knowledge and da meaning a giver) son of Kashyap (Father)and daughter of Raksha (Mother). This story is about the test devotion and overcoming all that leads to jealousy, arrogance, ignorance and the effects of illusion (Maya). Shiva's wife was Parvati, often incarnated as Kali and Durga. She was in fact a reincarnation of Sati (or Dakshayani), the daughter of the god Daksha. Daksha did not approve of Sati's marriage to Shiva and even went further and held a special sacrificial ceremony to all the gods except Shiva. Story of Ramayan's Shabri Mata whose life long devotion to Lord Ram by leaving her own family due to animal cruelty, seeking knowledge from Rishis whils being an outcast to pure devotion is depicted in Ramayan where Lord Ram is offered half eaten berries whilst in exile. The story is told in Gujarati and ends with a song.
