In this worship series, "God of the Impossible," we look at four different stories that share God doing impossible things and what may be possible from God using us. This week, we look at the story of Joseph in Genesis and when he forgives his brothers, saving his family from famine. It is a powerful story of realizing forgiveness isn't really about the other person or people; it is about freeing ourselves from carrying the weight of the burden of when we have been wronged or harmed. We start a new worship series this week called "God of the Impossible." We will look at four different stories that share God doing impossible things and what may be possible from God using us. This week, we look at the story of Peter talking with Jesus on the beach after the resurrection. It is here that Jesus gives him a new identity and reminds him of his calling. Today, we come to gather and worship because the grave is not a dead end. The good news is dancing! The good news is on the loose! The good news is out in the world, calling your name! Alleluia! Even death has lost its sting. for on this Easter morning, we profess the truth we find in our hearts, CHRIST IS RISEN, [HE IS RISEN INDEED!] Let us stand together and let us worship our good news, Jesus Christ is our RISEN Lord. We are entering the final week of Lent, the final steps of this holy journey. As we enter Holy Week, we are called by Christ to act in this world. We are called to partake in this process. Jesus calls many to act in his triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and that is our call still today. We continue our Lenten Series, "Tell Me Something Good," by looking at another one of the major tenets of Christianity, protecting and caring for the vulnerable. We hear from two texts today, one from Deuteronomy 24:17-22 and another from Matthew 9:13-15. We are pushed to remember that someone in our family tree was once an immigrant and that we should always watch over the children of our community. This Lenten season, we have been grounding ourselves in the Good News. Some of it has been easy and joyful to hear about, and other times it has stepped all over our toes. This week, we hear a famous story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery. We learn about justice and mercy. We continue our Lenten Series, "Tell Me Something Good," by examining one of the major tenets of Christianity: the Greatest Commandments. We do so in a unique way by examining the story of Jesus being anointed by an unnamed woman at a Pharisee's dinner party. We contrast the two main characters to learn how to love God extravagantly and to quiet the inner judgment of our hearts in order to truly love our neighbor. We start off the First Sunday of Lent with the first story of Jesus interacting with the world in the Gospel of John, the Wedding of Cana. This is a unique way to introduce Jesus to the world, but we can learn a lot about the Good News when we peel back the layers of this story and see the abundance and surprising nature of it.
