At the end of the segment of Romans chapters 9-11, Paul writes a hymn of praise (a doxology) due to his discussion and enthusiasm of what he understands of God's plans for both Jews and Christians. Today we begin our winter season of studying the book of Romans by exploring this doxology and reflecting on the place of praise in our lives too. Psalm 145:1-13 Romans 11:33-36

In this weeks message we will look at the pursuit of becoming Christ-like. We will Look at: We are saved by God to become Christ-like The differences between Holiness and religiosity We start the journey of Holiness by pursuing intimacy with God as revealed in Jesus. Ephesians 5:1-20

This morning in our message from Duty to Devotion, we will look at the area of giving, both the right way and the wrong way to give, this comes from 2nd Corinthians 9:6-1.

We will be looking at Bitter waters of Marah and how the external circumstances of Israel's suffering revealed internal spiritual truths of their state. Exodus 15:22-27 Hebrews 3:7-19 Psalm 95:7-9 Philippians 2:14-15

In this message we will look at the "Intermediate state"; what happens to us between the time we die and the final resurrection of the dead? Hebrews 6:1-3, Philippians 1:18-26, 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

In this mornings last message on the Sermon on the Mount till next Summer we are looking at love your enemy. We will look at the following three things. 1. Who are our enemies today? 2. We show the Love of God, the nature and character of God when we love our enemies because like Gods love there is no self interest in it. 3. We can start the journey of loving our enemies by praying for them. Matthew 5:43-48

In our ongoing series on the Sermon on the Mount, we will be looking at an eye for an eye; what was Jesus getting at when he said do not resist an evil person? Should a Christian never use force to defend themselves? Matthew 5:38-42

Jesus' main point wasn't simply not to make any oaths or vows - he wanted us to strive to meet God's absolute standard or truth and to show integrity and honesty in all areas of our lives. Only Jesus accomplished this and so, again, we recognise it is his righteousness by which we are saved. As God calls you to be 'fishers of people' imitate Him in every area of your life - both word and deed. Matthew 5:33-37 and Psalm 119:29-40

By the 1st century AD, the teachers of the Law had reinterpreted God's instructions (Deuteronomy 24:1-4) and were permitting divorce for any reason. God hates divorce. He neither commands it or condones it. But He recognises its existence in our fallen world, hence Scriptures such as Deuteronomy 24:1-4 and Exodus 21:10-11. Jesus corrects the Pharisees in what he explains about divorce. As we look at these scriptures some truths that are revealed, no matter your marital status are: You are God's Ambassador in all situations; we must take care not to interpret scriptures conveniently for this world's lifestyle; marriage is a covenant that God ordains and is truly precious; and, no matter what comes our way, God loves and cares for you - you are the apple of His eye! Matthew 5:31-32 and Matthew 19:3-12

Although awkward and uncomfortable to talk about, we must recognise that we all have sinned and constantly fail to live up to the standard of God’s Law. Jesus again challenges his audience with the sin of adultery in the heart. He doesn’t do this to condemn us, but to make us truly realise that we can only be saved when we accept Him as our righteousness. When King David sinned, he responded with a prayer that is Psalm 51: Create in me a new heart and renew a right spirit within me. Through true repentance God gives us a new heart. Matthew 5:27-30 and Psalm 51:10-17

No matter what challenges and trials we may face in this life, we have a Sovereign God who overcomes everything we may face. This is a blessed assurance we have when we accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord. Psalm 139 Job 42:2 Daniel 3:16-18 Romans 8:38-39 Revelation 21:1-7

One definition that we could use for the anger that Jesus warns us of is: 'an anger that cherishes resentment and does not want reconciliation.' While we strive to rid ourselves of such heart attitudes, Jesus has not left us as orphans - he has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and to replace our sinful heart attitudes with the fruit of the Spirit. Matthew 5:21-26 and Galatians 5:16-23

So far in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus has described what the character of a believer should be (the Beatitudes), the function of the believer (salt and light) and now Jesus teaches the foundations for those inner qualities (our attitudes). To introduce this he focuses on the purpose of the Law - God's Word. Today we consider moving from the Beatitudes to looking at our Attitudes and the call we have been given to be Children of God. Matthew 5:17-20 John 8:3-11

Along with the call to reflect on who Jesus is, we are also called to respond to Him. The responses of the shepherds, Simeon, Anna and the Magi are all recorded in the Bible. How will you respond to Jesus Christ today? Isaiah 9:1-7
