12/8/2025
The Dawn of Redeeming Grace Brings Peace Luke 2:8-14 & Philippians 4:6-9 The Village Chapel - 12/07/2025 During the Advent season, we sing and talk a lot about peace. But instead of being peace-full, why are so many people falling to pieces? What does the Bible teach us about how to handle unrest, worry, fear, and anxiety? Bring your fears, your worries, and your restless heart. Leave with the unshakable, unwavering, promise-keeping peace of God in Christ. The Dawn of Redeeming Grace Brings Hope: Isaiah 8:16-9:7 - The Dawn of Redeeming Grace

12/1/2025
The Dawn of Redeeming Grace Brings Hope Isaiah 8:16-9:7 Sermon Notes & Quotes The Village Chapel - 11/30/2025 In a world marked by deep darkness and spiritual hunger, the Advent season speaks with unusual honesty. The prophet Isaiah describes a people stumbling through distress and gloom, grasping for answers anywhere but God. Yet into that darkness comes a light not awakened from within us but shining upon us. An illuminating and intrusive grace that reveals our need and draws us back to the God who saves. Advent begins in the dark, but refuses to leave us there. As Isaiah looks ahead to the birth of Jesus, he announces a Savior would bring hope. Light for the blind, freedom for the burdened, peace for the anxious, and forgiveness for the rebel. Join us as Pastor Tommy walks us through Isaiah’s vision of a hope that does not fade and a light the darkness cannot overcome. Remembering God’s Word: Psalm 119:49-80 - The Word of God for All of Life

11/24/2025
Remembering God’s Word Psalm 119:49-80 The Village Chapel - 11/23/2025 Have you ever found yourself unable to sleep, replaying the questions you can’t quite silence? Where is God when the world feels so broken? Why does my heart ache the way it does? And is there a word from Him that can steady me when life shakes me to my core? Psalm 119:49–80 gives language to the longings we all feel—the yearning for hope when we are weary, for comfort when we’re hurting, and for clarity when the world around us seems bent on abandoning the ways of God. In these four stanzas—Zayin, Heth, Teth, and Yodh—we meet an ancient songwriter who was no stranger to affliction, opposition, or confusion. Yet instead of turning inward or outward, he turns upward. He rises at midnight to give thanks. He looks back on affliction and says, astonishingly, “It was good for me.” Beneath every cry is a deeper reality: the Word of God is not merely information; it is oxygen. It comforts, confronts, redirects, and renews. And it anchors him—just as it can anchor us—in a world that seems lost in the dark and tossed in turmoil. Join Pastor Jim as he explores this section of Psalm 119 and traces four themes that surface again and again: the ache we all feel, the comfort we all need, the hope that can sustain us, and the final word that can save us. These verses remind us that remembering God’s Word is not an academic exercise—it is the way weary pilgrims learn to walk with courage, joy, and unshakeable hope. Growing in God's Word: Psalm 119:25-48 - The Word of God for All of Life

11/17/2025
Growing in God's Word Psalm 119:25-48 The Village Chapel - 11/16/2025 Have you ever felt the weight of the world pressing down, leaving you clinging to the very dust? When sorrow runs deep and our strength fades, where do we turn? Psalm 119 speaks directly to those moments of weariness, reminding us that the Word of God—and the God of the Word—meets us right there. He lifts us up, breathes new life into weary hearts, and gently teaches us His ways. In His Word, God reveals himself as the God who is there, the God who sees, and the god who speaks. Join us as we explore Psalm 119 and discover how we can grow in God’s Word—and how He graciously meets us along the way. Delighting in the Word of God: Psalm 119:1-24 - The Word of God for All of Life

11/10/2025
Delighting in the Word of God Psalm 119:1-24 The Village Chapel - 11/09/2025 Have you ever hungered for a word that steadies your soul, a word that lights your path when the way grows dark, or a word that stirs hope and awakens joy when your heart feels heavy? Psalm 119 invites us to such a word—not just to read it and study it, but to delight in it—to savor each phrase, each promise, each truth. And even more than that, to delight in the God who speaks it: the God whose heart is revealed in every verse, the God who longs to draw us close, to reassure us, and to bless us. Come to God’s Word with your questions, your longings, your doubts, and your fears. Come and let the Word of God do its work in you as it transforms your heart. Come and delight both in the Word of God and in the God of the Word as Pastor Jim unpacks God’s Word to us from Psalm 119:1–24. Peace To You: Luke 24:36-53

11/3/2025
Peace To You Luke 24:36-53 The Village Chapel - 11/02/2025 On the evening of the resurrection, the disciples huddled together unsure what to make of the rumors and eyewitness accounts that Jesus was alive. Then suddenly, He stood among them. The same hands that had been pierced were now in front of them. The same voice that cried out on the cross now spoke peace into their despair. In that moment, the disciples were changed. The crucified one was not only alive—He was bodily present, eating with them, opening the Scriptures, and revealing that His suffering and resurrection were all part of God’s plan of redemption. Join Pastor Tommy as we close our study through the Gospel of Luke and reflect on the astonishing reality of the risen Christ. His cross secured our forgiveness, His resurrection guarantees our future with Him. Rekindled Hearts: Luke 24:13-35

10/27/2025
Rekindled Hearts Luke 24:13-35 The Village Chapel - 10/26/2025 Two disciples walk the seven miles from Jerusalem to Emmaus, trying to make sense of the unthinkable. Their hope had been nailed to a cross and buried in a tomb. Disappointment hung heavy in the air as the promise of the resurrected Jesus was nowhere to be seen—until a stranger joined them on the road. Step by step, He listened, questioned, and opened the Scriptures until their cold hearts began to glow with the hope of the resurrection. Join Pastor Tommy Bailey as we walk that road together. In Luke 24:13–35, we’ll see how Jesus meets us in our confusion, rekindles our faith through His Word, and turns the ache of “we had hoped” into the joy of hearts set ablaze. This Changes Everything: Luke 24:1-12

10/20/2025
This Changes Everything Luke Luke 24:1-12 The Village Chapel - 10/19/2025 We’re constantly told, “Do this one thing, and your life will never be the same.” Three steps, 90 days, and you'll be unrecognizable—according to social media, at least. But what if the one thing that truly changes everything… has already happened? What if someone already did the one thing that reshapes history, eternity, your story, and mine, too? What if Jesus actually did what He promised—rise from the dead- and His resurrection wasn’t just the end of His story, but the starting point of ours? What if it’s the lens through which everything in our lives finally makes sense? Join us as we walk through Luke 24:1–12 and discover how the Resurrection wasn’t just an event in history—it's the event that changes everything. Defining Moments: The Burial of Jesus Christ: Luke 23:50-56

10/13/2025
Defining Moments: The Burial of Jesus Christ Luke 23:50-56 The Village Chapel - 10/12/2025 Each of our lives is shaped by what we might call “defining moments”—those hinge points that change the course of our life in significant ways. We can see some of these moments coming. Others we only recognize when looking back, and we can see the gracious hand of God weaving through our good and bad choices, our challenges, our joys, and our pain—forming us, changing us, preparing us for what comes next. One such moment came at the burial of Jesus by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. What looked like the end was actually the beginning. What seemed like defeat would become the seed of resurrection faith. Their defining moment was not found in their strength, but in their surrender—by stepping out into the open, identifying with the crucified Christ, and finding life in His death. Sometimes, our greatest turning points come when we finally step out of the shadows and into the light of Christ—when we stop worrying about our own glory and begin living for His. Join Pastor Jim as he walks us through the burial of Jesus, one of the defining moments in redemption history. Why Did Jesus Die? The Message and Meaning of the Cross: Luke 23:26-49

10/6/2025
The Village Chapel - 10/05/2025 Why did Jesus die? Was it betrayal, political corruption, mob injustice—or was there something deeper? In Luke 23:26–49 we come to the very heart of the Christian faith: the cross of Christ. Here, in one of history’s most pivotal moments, we see God’s justice, love, wisdom, and power converge. The crucifixion is not just a tragic ending—it is God’s eternal plan to bring redemption, forgiveness, and new life to all who will believe. In this message, “Why Did Jesus Die? The Message and Meaning of the Cross”, we’ll explore the predictions of the cross, the people surrounding it, the paradox that Jesus would not save Himself so He could save us, and the power of His finished work. Whether you’re asking questions about Christianity or longing to go deeper in your faith, this passage reveals the astounding truth: Jesus took our place so that we might find life in Him. Join Pastor Jim as we stand at the foot of the cross in Luke 23 and discover why the death of Jesus changes everything—for you, for me, for the world. Beauty for Ashes, Diamonds for Dirt: Luke 23:1-25

9/29/2025
Beauty for Ashes, Diamonds for Dirt Luke 23:1-25 The Village Chapel - 09/28/2025 In the early morning hours of what we now call Good Friday, Jesus was taken by the religious leaders to stand trial before Pontius Pilate. In Luke’s account, Jesus speaks only five words when he responds to Pilate’s question, “Are you the King of the Jews?” and says, “It is as you say.” We come to a crossroads in this account: Courage and cowardice converge; actual authority and power are displayed through silent suffering; and Jesus, being entirely innocent, willingly exchanges his life for the life of a convicted criminal and takes his place on the cross. What looks like a victory for Satan ends up being the masterstroke of God’s Divine plan of rescue and redemption for the human race. What Is Your Response To Jesus Christ?: Luke 22:63-71

9/22/2025
What is your response to Jesus Christ? Luke 22:63-71 The Village Chapel - 09/21/2025 Curious about God? Seeking truth about who Jesus was and is? This study, rooted in the Gospels’ parallel accounts, helps us discover the powerful question at the heart of Christianity: What is your response to Jesus Christ? This sermon unveils three realities: 1. There are those who are Belligerent Unbelievers, who reject God, risking eternal consequences. 2. Jesus was a Suffering Savior who sacrificed all for our redemption, forgiving even the worst of His enemies. 3. Jesus made some bold claims about Himself as the Self-Revealed Son of God. Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Join Pastor Jim as he dives into the gripping narrative of Jesus’ trials from Luke 22:63-71, John 18:12-24, and Matthew 26:59-68, where betrayal, mockery, and injustice collide. Explore the resilience of Christianity against all odds. Don’t miss this chance to reflect on faith, eternity, and your personal response to Jesus Christ. In the Garden of Gethsemane: Luke 22:35-62

9/15/2025
In the Garden of Gethsemane Luke 22:35-62 The Village Chapel - 09/14/2025 In Luke 22:35-62, we are taken into the dark hours of Thursday night in the Garden of Gethsemane. Here, Jesus kneels in prayer, staggering under the weight of sin and the cup of wrath He alone must drink. Betrayed by Judas, abandoned by the disciples, and soon denied by Peter, Jesus nevertheless submits fully to the Father’s will. In His agony, His arrest, and His mercy—even healing the ear of one sent to seize Him—we are given a window into the heart of the Savior who loves to the end. Whether you have never turned to Jesus or you have walked away from Him, this passage reminds us that Jesus is faithful and trustworthy, He prays for His people, and He offers forgiveness and freedom to all who turn to Him. The Upside-Down Kingdom: Redefining Greatness: Luke 22:24-34

9/8/2025
The Upside-Down Kingdom: Redefining Greatness Luke 22:24-34 The Village Chapel - 09/07/2025 In a world consumed by wealth, status, and the pursuit of greatness, Jesus turns everything upside down. Luke 22 unveils a radical truth: true greatness isn’t about outshining others or chasing personal glory—it’s about humility, service, and deep heart transformation at work in the lives of believers, through God’s grace. As the disciples bickered over which of them was greatest, Jesus modeled real greatness. Jesus walked the path to the Cross, showing how selfless service and even suffering can lead to God’s glory and the good of others. Join Pastor Jim as he explores how Jesus defined greatness, how it transforms the trials we endure, and calls us to a servant-hearted life, boasting in Christ alone. The Divine Conspiracy Luke 22:1-23 The Village Chapel - 08/31/2025 In the shadowed drama of Luke 22:1-23, a sinister plot brews as Judas, Satan, and the religious elite conspire against Jesus. Yet, amidst this betrayal, a greater plan unfolds—Christ's divine conspiracy of love and redemption. Lift Up Your Heads, Your Redemption Is Near: Luke 21:5-38

8/25/2025
Lift Up Your Heads, Your Redemption Is Near Luke 21:5-38 The Village Chapel - 08/24/2025 The Olivet Discourse in Luke’s gospel (and its synoptic counterparts) is one of the most debated texts in the history of biblical scholarship….. We cannot know with certainty what Jesus himself did not choose to fully reveal — the timing of his return. But Jesus gave his disciples reasons to be encouraged amidst warnings of earthly catastrophe, divine wrath, and the persecution that would come with following him. This encouragement is worth applying to our own discipleship as we await our Lord’s promised return. Where Duty Meets Delight: Luke 21:1-4

8/18/2025
Where Duty Meets Delight Luke 21:1-4 The Village Chapel - 08/17/2025 We live in a world that values more of everything-bigger, better, faster, stronger, richer, all of which capture our attention. But while the economy of the world is all about getting, the economy of heaven is all about giving… for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Join us this week as we study Luke 21, verses 1 through 4. We’ll examine the story of a poor widow’s tiny yet extravagant offering, which turns out to be the most famous donation ever made by a human. We’ll discover how God measures worth in a way that turns the world’s values upside down, where the condition of our hearts is more important than the size of our bank accounts; where proportion is more significant than portion size; and where giving sacrificially moves from duty to delight. God of the Living: Luke 20:27-47

8/11/2025
God of the Living Luke 20:27-47 The Village Chapel - 08/10/2025 In Luke 20:27-47, we find Jesus face-to-face with the Sadducees, confronting both their skepticism about the resurrection and their wrong approach to God’s Word. In a world where so many voices vie for authority, Jesus reminds us that true hope is found not in our own assumptions or traditions, but in the living God who still speaks through his Word. Jesus exposes empty religion and reveals the life-transforming power of resurrection life—right from the very Scriptures his opponents claim to know. The promise of resurrection in Christ is hope for the grieving, the weary, the skeptical. Join us as we consider two Bible studies in one scene: the Sadducees’ cynical riddle that twists scripture and denies the power of God, and Jesus’ life-giving correction that lifts our eyes to the glory of the age to come. By What Authority?: Luke 19:45-20:26

8/4/2025
The Village Chapel - 08/03/2025 We live in a cultural moment that is deeply suspicious of authority. We’ve seen power corrupt, leaders fail, and institutions crumble. The solution many propose is to throw off all authority—to live ‘free,’ answerable to no one. But what if autonomy isn’t the answer? What if the real problem isn’t authority itself, but the wrong kind of authority? In Luke 19 and 20, Jesus walks into the temple and claims authority like no one else—an authority that doesn’t exploit but heals; that doesn’t oppress but liberates. Join Pastor Jim as he shows us that the question this passage asks is not simply, ‘Do we believe in Jesus?’ but rather, ‘Will we trust Him as the only authority who can truly set us free and lead us into real life? Fruitful in His Kingdom Luke 19:11-27 The Village Chapel - 07/27/2025 "What kind of King is Jesus? And what does He expect of us while we wait for His return?" In Luke 19, Jesus tells a provocative parable about a nobleman, two good servants, one bad servant, and a group of hateful citizens who reject the nobleman’s rule altogether. It’s a story about stewardship, rejection, fear, and faithfulness. Join Pastor Jim as he explores what it means to be faithful in the in-between—the season between Christ’s first coming and His return as the rightful King. We’ll learn that our lives are not our own; that we’ve been entrusted with something quite valuable. And that one day, the King will return to set the world to rights. In this passage we’ll rediscover what it means to live with gospel courage, kingdom purpose, and a heart that longs to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” To find more resources like these, follow us: Website: https://thevillagechapel.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQVTzDbaiXVUAm_mUBDCTJA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tvcnashville/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tvcnashville X: https://twitter.com/tvcnashville To support the ongoing mission of The Village Chapel go to https://thevillagechapel.com/give/.
