A recent briefing hosted by the All Party Oireachtas Group on Dementia (APOGD) has exposed the hidden reality faced by More than 4,500 people in Ireland under the of 65 who have been diagnosed with young-onset dementia. The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is the leading dementia- specific service provider in Ireland, and one of the speakers at this briefing on young- onset dementia was ASI Advocacy Manager, Philippe Carr, who joined Adrianne to discuss this early or young onset dementia, the supports the ASI offer and what the changes they are looking for in this area from the government and other policy makers. On this week's Feel Good Friday Joe Bambrick chats to Actor, Darragh Gilhooly about the play 'Yellowing' taking place at The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon on the 17th and 18th of April, and his association with Naming Cows Theatre Company and the background story to the play 'Yellowing' which deals with the subject of aging and Dementia.

Kathryn Mary Crowley is an artist, poet, author based in Kerry who has suffered with the pain, and other debilitating symptoms of fibromyalgia for a large chunk of her adult life. She is now, in her own words, about 80%-90% recovered from the pain, while not taking any pain medication, and she has written a book entitled ‘Cave to Compass’, in the hope that, by sharing her story and what has helped her, it might help other sufferers. Kathryn speaks here with Adrianne about her experiences; the ABLE method she uses daily to alleviate the pain, and her book/websites where she hopes people will find insights and information to help them navigate their own journey through their cave to find relief from the symptoms of fibromyalgia. The Fuelradar app, powered by Joblar tracks and compares petrol and diesel prices in filling stations in Ireland, and chats about it's importance to rural communities across the country.

Adrianne speaks with Allen Meagher, Editor of Changing Ireland, a quarterly community focused national magazine, which highlights community development and social inclusion. They chat about all things to do with community and Allen tells of stories from their inception in 2001 to some stories that have stood out for him over their 25 years in publication. Why it is as important today, if not more so, and he also speaks about his upcoming visit to Gambia where he will be seeing migration from the departure viewpoint and speaking to people who will take a treacherous overcrowded boat trip across the Gambia River to try to escape poverty. Rathcroghan is known as the ancient Capital of Connacht, where the festival of Samhain (Halloween) is said to originate. This majestic landscape is the oldest and largest unexcavated Royal Site in Europe. Eugene Murphy served as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Roscommon/Galway constituency from 2016 to 2020 and as an Irish Senator for the Agricultural Panel from June 2020 to January 2025. Eugene didn’t manage to get re-elected to the Dail in the last election, and Adrianne managed to catch up with him to discuss what he is doing now within the community, which involves musical events in the Percy French Hotel and helping to organise an Easter parade in Strokestown. They also discuss his hopes are for the future, which involves hopefully getting back into politics in some way.

Castle Hill Residents have FREE Health Check Day and Adrianne chatted with Caitlin McDermott who is the Community Engagement Co- Ordinator for Castle Hill, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. Caitlin told of the various activities and events that are run in Castle Hill Centre for the local residents there and of a FREE Health Check Day that will take place in the Castle Hill Centre on Wednesday, 25th March from 11am to 1pm. There will be blood hearing tests, mental health advice from West Be Well, blood pressure tests and eye health checks. Roscommon Sports Partnership will also be there to talk about health and how to keep active. Each year the Irish Cancer Society provides information, care & support to over 1.2 million people across Ireland who are affected by cancer. They are only able to this because of the public’s generosity in helping them raise funds through different methods, with their biggest fundraiser being Daffodil Day. This year Daffodil Day is on Friday, 20th March. Ahead of this very important day, Adrianne talks to Mary Murray, Midwest Community Fundraiser with the Irish Cancer Society. They speak about the various ways you can help this Daffodil Day and the services that your donations go towards. Epilepsy Ireland Song TIME, SAFE, STAY aims to boost seizure first aid, and awareness of the condition, which affects an estimated 755 people in Roscommon. The song clearly identifies what to do when you see someone having a seizure, you should TIME it (only call an ambulance at 5 minutes), make sure they are SAFE and STAY with them. Epilepsy Ireland, Advocacy & Communications Manager, Paddy Mc Geoghegan speaks here with Adrianne about the myths around epilepsy and explains that people with the condition can live a normal seizure free life if they are given the correct medication. For years now, young people have suffered enormous distress caused by bullying through social media platforms and messaging Apps. Tragically, it has resulted in death by suicide in some cases. Adrianne speaks here with Sean Kelly MEP, who has said that while the EU cyberbullying strategy is welcome, it is unfortunately not quite enough. He supports all action to better protect and educate children and has, throughout his political career, advocated for more action to protect minors online. He has also consistently called upon the EU to criminalise online bullying and harassment citing the new Irish Coco's Law example, which he would like to adopted and enacted within the whole of the EU. Following on from CyberSafeKids’ survey responses from more than 3,300 primary school children (aged 8-12) and over 1,700 parents, which shows that children are highly active online, with 93% of this age group often using platforms designed for much older users. CyberSafeKids has recently launched its 5th ‘Same Rules Apply’ parental awareness campaign.
