2022 Season Opener Bahrain Grand Prix, Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz go to war with Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez

3/21/2022
The brand new 2022 Formula 1 cars took to Bahrain International Circuit and they did not disappoint! There was lots of great action up and down the field! Join the American F1diots as we discuss how, at least for the time being, Ferrari and Red Bull are the strongest teams to emerge from Winter testing. Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen went wheel-to-wheel for three straight laps at one point, and that was far from the only exciting battle! Both Red Bull cars ended up retiring near the end of the GP but they showed great pace and made Ferrari work for their first 1-2 finish since 2019. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were happy at that bit of RB bad luck as they ended up taking P3 and P4, respectively. Thanks for listening!

Mexican Grand Prix! The battle for Driver's Championship between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton continues in Mexico City.

11/13/2021
This week the AF1 crew starts off the podcast with our Formula 1 for 1diots segment discussing all things tires (tyres, for our European friends!). Modern Formula 1 cars are very hard on tires and Pirelli has a monstrous job each year (and every race) trying to figure out the best compounds to select. We also discuss the Mexico City Grand Prix and the ongoing race (boom) for Driver's Championship between Max Verstappen (P1) and Lewis Hamiton (P2). Hometown favorite Sergio (Checko) Perez lands himself on the podium in P3 to the delight of the hugely supportive Mexcian crowd. Pierre Gasly had a great showing quietly taking P4 while Ferrari also had a good weekend with Charles LeClerc and Carlos Sainz finishing P5 & P6 respectively. McLaren continues to struggle and scores minimal points. All this and much more in Season 1, Episode 7! Thanks for listening!

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen continue their battle for the driver's championship on different strategies and Sergio (Checo) Perez lands himself a solid podium finish. Daniel Ricciardo continued his tradition of immersing himself in Texan culture, complete with his cringy but adorable American accent. Ferrari pulls closer to McLaren in the constructor's championship as Lando Norris' struggles continue and Charles LeClerc and Carlos Sainz keep finding pace and grip. All in all, it was an exciting weekend in Texas! Thanks for listening!

10/12/2021
Join Erin, Jim, and Josh in this episode as we discuss some rulebook gray areas including Lando Norris's pit-entry non-penalty at Sochi, track limits in general, and Fernando Alonso's brilliant move to take advantage of and expose a nonsensical guideline on lap one at Sochi. Conversation then turns to the Formula 1 2021 Turkish GP in general and Josh freaks out about Ferarri's continued strategy fails. This was a very exciting race with lots of action and we loved chatting about it. Have a listen and we'd love to hear your feedback! americanf1diots@gmail.com or tweet us @AmericanF1diots

George Russel signs with Mercedes, Italian Grand Prix recap, Ricciardo & Norris big McLaren 1-2, Verstappen & Hamilton crash, and more!

9/14/2021
The crew dives right into the big news from the Mercedes team that George Russell has been signed to a three year contract starting in 2022. Nicholas Latifi will remain with Williams and Alex Albon, formerly of Red Bull Racing, will take Russell's place in the second Williams car. That leaves just the one remaining question mark on the grid as Alfa Romeo has yet to resign Antonio Giovinazzi. Next, we discuss the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The first of two big storylines from this race was the huge victory for McLaren with Daniel Ricciardo taking p1 and Lando Norris taking p2 for the first team 1-2 of the entire season. Valterri Bottas, looking reborn since his announcement that he'll be leaving Mercedes for Alfa Romeo, finished p3 and enjoyed his 64th career podium. Bottas was the only one on the podium who did not take part in the drinking of champagne from Daniel Ricciardo's race boot as the Aussie carried on the "Shoey" tradition. Yuck! The second big story from the Italian GP was the accident between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. It can be chalked up to bad timing (Lewis exiting the pit lane right alongside Max) and two very stubborn racecar drivers not wanting to back down, but we have a lively discussion concerning the many nuances that led to this and other recent crashes between the two 2021 championship contenders. Huge congratulations to Ricciardo on his first F1 win since 2018, and thanks for listening!

9/1/2021
In our very first episode Josh, Erin, and Jim introduce themselves and discuss how they came to be Formula 1 fans, the podcast format, and mission statement. We also go over some Formula 1 basics for anyone new to the sport and give a complete 2021 team & driver rundown! Beginning at the back of the grid and working up, we have team Haas featuring Nikita Mazepin & Mick Schumacher, followed by Alfa Romeo featuring Kimi Raikkonen & Antonio Giovinazzi. Next up would be Williams featuring Nicholas Latifi & George Russell, followed by Sebastian Vettel & Lance Stroll driving for Aston Martin. Alpha Tauri is after that featuring Pierre Gasly & rookie Yuki Tsunoda. Alpine follows with drivers Esteban Ocon and veteran Fernando Alonso. Working our way into the top four we find Ferrari featuring Josh's favorite driver Charles LeClerc along with Carlo Sainz. Mclaren currently holds P3 in the constructor's championship with drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Riccardo. In a very tight battle in the top two team spots, we find Red Bull Racing Honda and Mercedes. Red Bull's driver lineup includes Sergio Perez and strong driver's championship contender Max Verstappen. At the top of the list comes team Mercedes featuring Valtteri Bottas & 7-time world champion and current individual points-leader Lewis Hamilton.
