Phillies Fire Rob Thomson And Begin Life With Don Mattingly As Coach I PHLY Phillies Podcast

4/29/2026
The Philadelphia Phillies have FIRED manager Rob Thomson and named Don Mattingly as interim manager for the remainder of the 2026 season. After a brutal 9-19 start — tied with the Mets for the worst record in baseball — president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski pulled the trigger on a major shakeup at Citizens Bank Park. Thomson, who compiled a 355-270 record and guided the Phillies to four straight postseason appearances including a 2022 World Series run, was let go just 28 games into his newly extended contract. Despite all the success, a $300M+ payroll and the worst start in recent memory made a change inevitable. Enter Don Mattingly — the Yankees legend and 12-year MLB managerial veteran — who was serving as bench coach before being elevated to the top job. In a historic first, Mattingly will manage a team whose GM is his own son, Preston Mattingly. Dusty Wathan moves up to bench coach, and Triple-A skipper Anthony Contreras joins as third-base coach. Can Mattingly spark a turnaround like Thomson did in 2022? The Phillies are already 10.5 games behind the red-hot Braves. Time is NOT on their side. ⚾ TOPICS COVERED • Rob Thomson fired after 9-19 start • Don Mattingly named interim Phillies manager • Dave Dombrowski press conference reaction • Thomson's legacy: 4 postseasons, 1 pennant, 355 wins • Can the Phillies still turn their 2026 season around? 🔔 Subscribe for daily Philadelphia Phillies coverage, MLB news, and breaking roster moves. #Phillies #RobThomson #DonMattingly #Philadelphia #MLB #PhilliesNews #MLBNews #GoPhils #NLEast #BaseballNews Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. BREAKING: Rob Thomson FIRED By Phillies, Don Mattingly Named Interim Manager | PHLY Phillies Podcast

4/28/2026
The Philadelphia Phillies have officially fired manager Rob Thomson after a disastrous 9-19 start to the 2026 season — their worst 28-game start since 2002. Don Mattingly has been named interim manager as the Phillies look to turn things around. Thomson took over as Phillies manager in June 2022 when Joe Girardi was let go, and went on to lead the team to four straight playoff appearances and two NL East division titles. But a brutal 10-game losing streak and a roster that fell 10 games below .500 for the first time since 2017 forced the organization's hand. Despite a $317 million payroll and World Series expectations, the Phillies found themselves battling for last place in the NL East. – Why the Phillies fired Rob Thomson – Don Mattingly's role as interim manager – Whether Dave Dombrowski should be next – What this means for Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and the rest of the Phillies' roster – Can Philadelphia still salvage the 2026 season? Phillies Continue To Plummet, Could Changes Be Coming? I PHLY Phillies Podcast

4/27/2026
🔴⚾ PHILLIES IN CRISIS: Rob Thomson on the Hot Seat + Alex Cora Firing Sends Shockwaves Through MLB | Phillies Show 🔥😱 The 2026 Philadelphia Phillies are in full-blown early-season crisis mode — and the question everyone in Philly is asking is: how long before Rob Thomson pays the price? 👀🔥 On today's show, we break down everything going wrong with your Philadelphia Phillies. 😤 The rotation is historically bad, ranking 28th in MLB in ERA 📉. Trea Turner is hitting under .225. Alec Bohm is barely above .150. The Phillies have already been shut out three times in 2026, and after a brutal 2-7 home-stand capped by a Braves sweep 🧹, they now sit 9.5 games back in the NL East — the worst team in the National League. 💀 But the BIGGEST story in baseball today? 🚨 The Boston Red Sox just fired manager Alex Cora — the first in-season managerial firing of 2026 — just 27 games into the season. And here's where it gets interesting for Phillies fans 👇: baseball insiders are already connecting Alex Cora directly to Phillies president Dave Dombrowski 🤝, who has a well-known close relationship with the now-former Red Sox skipper. Could Cora be the next Phillies manager? 🤔 And does his firing put even MORE pressure on Rob Thomson? 😰 We're discussing all of it today. 🎙️ • 😤 What is ACTUALLY wrong with the Phillies offense in 2026? • 🔥 Is Rob Thomson's job in danger? • 🚨 Alex Cora fired in Boston — what it means for the MLB manager market • 👀 Could Alex Cora end up managing the Phillies? • 💪 Zack Wheeler's return — is it too little, too late? • ⚡ Which Phillies players need to step up NOW 👍 Like this video if you think the Phillies need to make a change in the dugout! 💬 Comment below — Should the Phillies fire Rob Thomson? Phillies Have The Worst Record In MLB

4/24/2026
🚨 The Philadelphia Phillies are in COMPLETE freefall! 😱 After entering 2026 as one of baseball's biggest contenders, the Phillies have lost 9 straight games — the longest active losing streak in Major League Baseball 📉 — and now sit at an embarrassing 8-17 record, tied for the worst in the entire league. 😬 Even more shocking? Philadelphia carries one of baseball's biggest payrolls at $285 million 💰, with a $320 million luxury tax payroll, yet NOTHING is working. Their run differential stands at -50 😤, by far the worst mark in ALL of MLB. 🤯 ⚾ The offense? A total disaster. 💀 The Phillies rank second-to-last in batting average, 27th in hits, and near last in runs scored. They've scored just 16 runs over their last 8 games 😳, struck out 12+ times in 11 of their 24 games, and went an absolutely BRUTAL 0-for-26 with runners in scoring position over a stretch of 6 games. 📊 Pitching 🪣, hitting 😤, and defense 🤦 have all been a complete and utter catastrophe. 🔥 In this video, we break down EXACTLY what has gone wrong for the Phillies 🔍, whether manager Rob Thomson is officially on the hot seat 💺🌡️, and if this $285 million roster 💸 can turn things around before the season completely slips away. ⏳ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Phillies Continue Plummeting, Is Rob Thomson On The Hot Seat?

4/20/2026
The Philadelphia Phillies are in CRISIS MODE. 🔴⚾ The two-time defending NL East champions have stumbled out of the gate in 2026, and things are getting ugly fast. After a disastrous 2-7 home stand — capped by getting swept by the Atlanta Braves — the Phillies now sit five games under .500 and 6.5 games back in the NL East. At 8-13, this is the franchise's worst start since 2015, when the Phillies were on their way to 99 losses. In today's video, we break down EVERYTHING going wrong — and what could save this season. 🔥 ROB THOMSON ON THE HOT SEAT? Firing Rob Thomson would be the most drastic move the Phillies could make, but it may become necessary if the struggles continue. Don Mattingly has been floated as a potential replacement, with some suggesting that a new voice in the clubhouse could be the only spark this team needs. Thomson has kept his composure publicly, but showed visible frustration after the Braves sweep — not in theatrics, but in tone. Ken Rosenthal listed Phillies, Mets & Astros as teams with bigger issues than their managers, but those 3 could find themselves on the hot seat anyway. ⚖️ ALEC BOHM'S FAMILY LAWSUIT Off the field, Alec Bohm is dealing with a stunning legal battle. Bohm filed a lawsuit alleging his parents, Daniel and Lisa, moved large amounts of his money into financial accounts they managed and then used some of that cash to pay their own expenses. The lawsuit seeks at least $3 million in damages, full control of the accounts, and requires his parents to hire an accountant to track every dollar transferred. 🚀 ANDREW PAINTER — A BRIGHT SPOT While most of the rotation has struggled, highly-touted rookie Andrew Painter has been a silver lining. Painter made his long-awaited MLB debut on March 31 after coming back from Tommy John surgery, and impressed immediately — striking out eight batters across 5.1 innings against Washington. Overall, he's posted a 3.77 ERA across 14.1 innings in his first three outings, showing the ceiling of a future frontline starter despite the team's woes around him. Phillies Continue Losing Home Series, Is The Home Field Advantage Gone?

4/17/2026
🔴 PHILLIES IN CRISIS? Home Field Nightmare, Luzardo's Meltdown & Phils Can't Hit Lefties + Angry Fan Tweets The Philadelphia Phillies are 8-10 and the alarm bells are ringing at Citizens Bank Park. In today's episode, we break down THREE major concerns threatening to derail this team's 2026 season — plus your UNFILTERED reactions in our Angry Fan Tweets segment! 🏟️ NO HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE? Citizens Bank Park used to be a fortress. Now it feels like a vacation spot for opposing teams. We dig into why the Phillies aren't protecting their home turf and what it means for the rest of the season. ⚾ JESÚS LUZARDO'S EARLY-SEASON DISASTER The Phillies gave him a 5-year, $135 million extension — and through four starts, Luzardo has a bloated 7.94 ERA, has surrendered 28 hits in 22⅔ innings, and allowed five or more earned runs in THREE of those outings. Is he tipping pitches again? Is this a fluke or something more serious? We break it all down. 🆚 PHILLIES VS. LEFT-HANDED PITCHING: THE WORST IN BASEBALL A .158 batting average and dead-last ranking in the MLB against southpaws. The Phils are 0-4 in games started by a left-hander this season. Shota Imanaga, Robbie Ray, MacKenzie Gore — lefties are making this lineup look like a Little League team. We examine who's struggling most and whether Rob Thomson's platoons are actually helping. 😤 ANGRY FAN TWEETS SEGMENT Phillies Twitter is FURIOUS. Kyle Schwarber Is One Of MLB’s Most Irreplaceable Players

4/15/2026
On today's episode, we're diving deep into the Phillies' latest highs and lows — and there were plenty of both. Topics covered: 🔨 Kyle Schwarber's case as one of the best Phillies signings EVER — where he ranks all-time in franchise home run history and why his prime has only gotten better in red pinstripes 📉 The Peaks & Valleys of this Phillies team — what's stopping them from stringing wins together? Pitching, hitting, or just flat-out getting in their own way? Plus, Adolis Garcia's CANNON of an arm and the Brandon Marsh lefty situation. 💸 The Aaron Nola problem — 1,900 career strikeouts, second all-time in Phillies history behind Steve Carlton, but is his contract one of the worst value deals in MLB? We break down his numbers since signing the extension. 🔥 Bullpen watch — Mayza struggles, Keller looks sharp and Seth Johnson optioned back down. ⚡ Zack Wheeler is CLOSE — 5 scoreless innings, 8 Ks, sitting 93-94 mph in his latest Lehigh Valley rehab start. One more outing or is it time to bring him back? 🏺 Final Word: Brad Lidge goes full Indiana Jones — the Phillies legend is now on the Penn Museum board! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Phillies Offensive Droughts Are Causing Fans To Panic I PHLY Phillies Podcast

4/13/2026
🔴 THE PHILLIES ARE BROKEN — Offense, Rotation Problems & What Needs to Change NOW The Philadelphia Phillies are off to a disappointing 7-8 start in 2026, sitting 3rd in the NL East — already 3 games behind the red-hot Atlanta Braves. They just dropped 2 of 3 at home to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the issues go far deeper than just the lineup. The pitching staff has been inconsistent, the bullpen is being stretched thin, and the offense keeps going ice cold at the worst possible moments. This team has the talent to compete with anyone in the National League — so why does it keep finding new ways to disappoint? ⚾ THE ROTATION: A TALE OF THREE STARTERS 🔥 Andrew Painter — The 22-year-old rookie has been the brightest spot on this pitching staff. He gutted out an incredible performance Sunday against Arizona, coming out of the bullpen after being scratched with a migraine and delivering 5 innings of 1-run ball with 7 strikeouts. At home this season, Painter has been filthy — allowing just 2 earned runs over 10⅓ innings pitched (1.76 ERA). He's not the problem. He's the future. But can this team really afford to lean on a rookie this heavily? 😬 Jesús Luzardo — The expectations were high for Luzardo as one of the rotation's key pieces, but his 6.23 ERA through 16.1 innings has been a major concern. He's given up 12 earned runs and hasn't been able to get deep enough into games, forcing the bullpen to carry a heavy workload. When Luzardo is off, this team has no margin for error. 😤 THE OFFENSE: WHERE ARE THE RUNS? Even when the pitching gives this team a chance, the lineup keeps going cold at the wrong time. Three straight games against Arizona, the Phillies scored ALL of their runs in a single inning each game. Bryce Harper has been scorching — hitting safely in 6 straight games and carrying this lineup — but he can't do it alone. Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, and the right-handed side of this lineup have been consistently unproductive. ⚾ Topics covered: ✅ Phillies' brutal 7-8 start & NL East standings breakdown ✅ Andrew Painter's dominant rookie campaign — and why it's not enough ✅ Jesús Luzardo's early ERA struggles explained ✅ How the bullpen is being taxed by rotation failures ✅ Offensive inconsistencies — the Phillies' one-inning scoring habit ✅ What this team needs to do NOW before the season slips away 🔔 Subscribe for our daily Phillies coverage, MLB analysis, and Philadelphia sports content! Phillies Early Season A Rollercoaster, Successful West Coast Trip? I PHLY Phillies Podcast

4/8/2026
The Philadelphia Phillies end a 6 game west coast trip today vs. the San Francisco Giants & we see if it was a successful road trip out west before returning home to Philadelphia to face the Arizona DIamondbacks. Bryce Harper appears to have heated up on the trip, how did Trea Turner & Kyle Schwarber fare? The Phillies bullpen got a shot of energy when Orion Kerkering came off the injured list yesterday and the Phillies bullpen is looking like one of the best in baseball. The Philadelphia Phillies were shut out 6-0 by the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night, and it wasn't pretty. Cristopher Sánchez lasted just 5 innings, allowing 11 hits and 4 runs, while the Phillies' offense could only muster 4 hits against Robbie Ray. Two errors in the field didn't help either — raising real questions about where this team is headed early in the 2026 season. In this video, we break down what went wrong, what Sánchez needs to fix, and whether Phillies fans should be worried — or if history says this team bounces back. 🔔 Subscribe for daily Phillies coverage 👍 Like if you want more Phillies breakdowns 💬 Comment below — are YOU worried about this team? Phillies Take Another Series But Bryce Harper Is Starting Slow I PHLY Phillies Podcast

4/6/2026
The Phillies took the Colorado series 2-1, outscoring the Rockies 13-6 across three games at Coors Field — including a dominant 10-1 blowout in the opener. Now they pack their bags and head west for a three-game set against the San Francisco Giants starting Monday night. We break down what went right, what went wrong, and what to watch for on the road trip. 🔴 BRYCE HARPER'S SLOW START — Harper opened the year going 2-for-24 (.083) through his first five games, but he snapped the slump in a big way with a 424-foot solo shot against Washington. Is the franchise player finally heating up, or is there still cause for concern? We dive into the approach and what it means for the lineup. 🔴 ZACK WHEELER REHAB UPDATE — The three-time All-Star is working his way back from thoracic outlet decompression surgery and the Phillies are still targeting an April return. His second rehab start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley was rough on paper — five runs allowed — but his defense didn't do him any favors, with a fly ball dropping between two outfielders to blow open the inning MLB. Thomson has confirmed Wheeler will need a fourth rehab start before rejoining the rotation. We break down what we saw and what to expect. 🔴 BRANDON MARSH IS LOCKED IN — Marsh has a hit in all eight games he's started this season and his .303 average since last May ranks fifth among all MLB players with 400+ plate appearances. Manager Rob Thomson is crediting a "Schwarber approach" — thinking left-center, staying on the ball. Marsh describes it as "controlled aggression." Whatever it is, it's working — and he announced himself in Colorado with a 454-foot bomb, the longest home run of his career. 🔴 ADOLIS GARCÍA'S HOT START — The new right fielder signed on a one-year, $10M deal to replace Nick Castellanos and he's been impressive early. García is hitting .318 with a home run, and the advanced metrics back it up — a 96.8 mph average exit velocity with a .314 xBA and .460 xSLG. The $10 million reclamation bet is looking good so far. 🗓️ UP NEXT: PHI @ SF — Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday night at Oracle Park 🔔 Subscribe for daily Phillies coverage 👍 Like if you rep the red pinstripes 💬 Drop your Phillies take in the comments Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
