Okay, so in this episode, Lubo and I delved deep into the heart of his newest film, Kingdom. We explored the symbolism and meaning behind the imagery of the black dust that clouds people's heads and hearts. We discussed the importance of taking responsibility for our own emotions, thoughts, and actions, and how this process of self-awareness and self-responsibility can lead to empowerment and liberation. We touched on the concept of courage and the courage it takes to face our inner critics and integrate all parts of ourselves. We also talked about the idea of sorcery in society, how shared narratives and institutions can act as spells that we either choose to believe in or not. Overall, the conversation was a journey into the depths of self-discovery and empowerment, with insights into the power of art to reflect and inspire transformation. Dr. John Vervaeke is a professor of Cognitive Science at the University of Toronto and has been the prophet of 'the meaning crisis'. Vervaeke lays out the meaning crisis as a pervasive feeling of alienation from the world and from each other. Suicide rates and loneliness, depression and anxiety run rampant. Video games and social media fan the flames of these problems. Vervaeke has studied these problems in depth, and proposes ecologies of practices as their remedies. In this talk, I get John's take on the connection between movement and cognition/perspective. We talk about grief and how our movement practices quite literally 'move' us through our grief.
