The Punisher

5/3/2018
Who is the Punisher? His enemies know him as The Punisher, we know him as Frank Castle. Although his character has changed over the years a few key plots have always remained the same. He has always been a war veteran, his family is always taken from him in a criminal shootout, he always swears to punish those responsible. He dons a white skull on black to let his enemies know that their date with death is soon! Is he a hero or a villain? You can argue both, but in the end Frank Castle knows what he does is right. The Punisher’s Publication History: The Punisher was first introduced as a villain to the friendly neighborhood Spiderman in Amazing Spider-Man 129 in 1974 by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru and John Romita Sr. The Punisher would go to cameo in other Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Captain America. Frank Castle would not get his own solo mini series until 1986. He would spawn three aditional ongoing series titled The Punisher, The Punisher: War Zone, The Punisher: War Journal over the following years. After hundreds of comic issues the sales started to decline and Marvel turned to writer Garth Ennis to help turn the character around. Ennis would go on to write iconic storylines that inspired the movies and TV shows we have grown to love! Music: "Superman" by Love Story in Blood Red Whether you are a comic novice or expert, if you want to learn more about the characters being adapted to film, if you want to start reading but don’t know where to start, or if you want to expand your knowledge of comics you have not yet explored, we are here to Nerdsplain It to you! Binge-Worthy TV Shows

4/20/2018
In episode 4 we are talking about superheroes in comics on the small screen. We talk about superhero comic TV show from the past, present and future. What we like or don’t like about these shows, how far we’ve come, because lets face it we are in a golden age of comic book television. We talk about Gotham, Riverdale, The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, Smallville, The Walking Dead, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher. Music: "Superman" by Love Story in Blood Red This week we discuss Marvel and DC Comics timelines, a broad overview of these timelines and the big things that have happened in both universes over the years. We are creating something that will change the culture around “exclusive” fan communities. Eventually we would like to branch out to other fan communities, but as of right now the comic book community is plenty large enough to begin with. Our goal is to make it more inclusive, supportive, and non-judgmental. We are creating something that will allow newcomers a way to learn without being accused of not being a true fan or being excluded because they disagree with something about a character or storyline. Most major comic book characters have been running for decades and their stories have made some drastic changes over the years. It can be overwhelming to jump into a story that has been developed, told and adapted for decades. It is no surprise why some newcomers find comics difficult to get into, or why comic readers that have spent years reading the adventures of their favorite characters haven’t found the time to explore new characters and storylines. Whether you are a comic novice or expert, if you want to learn more about the characters being adapted to film, if you want to start reading but don’t know where to start, or if you want to expand your knowledge of comics you have not yet explored, we are here to Nerdsplain It to you!
