*Patreon Freebie!* Patricia Douglas: The Girl Who Took on MGM

5/20/2024
**Hi there, Misfits! We originally posted this episode on our Patreon back in April but have decided to release it for everyone. We hope you find this story as important as we did!** CW: This episode contains discussion of rape. Before Rose McGowan spoke out against Harvey Weinstein, before "MeToo" became a hashtag, before hashtags even existed, there was Patricia Douglas. Patricia - or Patsy, as she liked to be called - was a talented dancer living in Los Angeles in the 1930s. Her talent led her to dance in films with Ginger Rogers and Busby Berkeley, and her innocent nature and complete indifference to fame and celebrity attracted the friendship of several stars, including Bing Crosby and William Frawley. But that would all come to an abrupt end. On what should have been a typical night of work at MGM studios, Patsy and dozens of other underage girls were shuttled to a remote location and tricked into thinking they were extras in a movie. Things couldn't have been further from the truth. The Mysterious Crash of Stunt Pilot B.H. DeLay

4/8/2024
Misfits, it's a morning recording and Kevin hasn't had his coffee yet. We're a little unhinged in this one - bear with us! Born in 1891, B.H. DeLay was a pioneering aviator and entertainer, so working as a stunt pilot in the movie industry seemed like the perfect job. He was performing tricks in the air that had literally NEVER been done before! He was incredibly skilled, so taking a friend up for a ride in his plane seemed like nothing more than a typical Wednesday. But there was nothing typical about July 4, 1923 when the wings of DeLay's plane inexplicably snapped, causing the aircraft to plummet to the ground. DeLay and his friend were killed. Gig Young: The Oscar-Winning Murderer - Part 2

3/9/2024
CW: This episode contains discussion of suicide, sexual assault and domestic assault. Here it is! We wanted to make sure you got the conclusion of the Gig Young story before the Oscars aired. We left off in Part 1 with Gig's marriage to Elizabeth Montgomery coming to a hostile end. Well misfits, things don't get any better from here. In this episode we'll get to Gig's final two marriages. When he moves into an apartment with his fifth wife, the previous owner warns him not to disturb the "nice ghosts" that live there, and another source warns of a malevolent presence lurking within the walls. Gig brushes the comments off as nonsense, but perhaps there was some foreshadowing in those warnings... Gig Young: The Oscar-Winning Murderer - Part 1

3/5/2024
Ahhh...the Academy Awards - a night of fashion, festivity and future murderers. Wait, what? Gig Young was quite the hottie back in his day (think George Clooney but in the mid-1900s). He had Hollywood starlets falling at his feet and a career many actors could only dream of. But he also had a lot of inner demons stemming from an abusive and traumatic childhood, and left untreated (or mistreated, as was often the case) those demons would eventually find their way to the surface. Note: There's a section where I talk about his first wife, Sheila, and how she didn't like attending parties with him. But I accidentally say Sophie instead of Sheila. Sorry about the confusion! Larry Austin: Murder at the Silent Movie Theatre

1/22/2024
Larry Austin had three loves: "Murder She Wrote", his cat (Sir Purity) and silent films. The idea that anyone could have anything against the 74-year-old theatre owner seemed unfathomable. So the community was shocked when he was gunned down in the lobby of his own theatre in what appeared to be a robbery gone wrong. Detectives found the whole situation odd. For one thing, Larry didn't put up any resistance when the shooter demanded cash yet the gunman shot him anyway. And as for all that money? Well, the gunman left without it. Kinda strange if you're trying to rob a place... CW: This episode contains heavy discussion of rape and sexual assault. 18-year-old Sally Anne Bowman had two main goals in life: appear on the cover of Vogue Magazine and perform at the Royal Albert Hall with famed actor/singer Michael Ball. As a student at the BRIT School - which boasted such alumni as Adele, Tom Holland and Jessie J - along with winning a modeling contest to become the face of SWATCH, it seemed Sally was well on her way. The Legal Debacle of Roman Polanski

1/8/2024
CW: This episode discusses the sexual assault of a child. Happy New Year, Misfits! We're back after a much needed holiday break, and we have a doozy of a case for you. Roman Polanski, a French and Polish movie director, producer, screenwriter and actor, is a huge name in Hollywood. He has received several of the movie industry's top accolades for his original and popular films, but his ultimate downfall occurred in 1977 when he was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. After messy legal proceedings led to Polanski fleeing the United States, never to return, the case went down in Hollywood infamy - mainly because justice was never fully served. 12/18/2023
He was the man of a thousand voices. Phil Hartman was a comedic dynamo, but he didn't start out with dreams of stardom. If you'd asked him in college what his five year plan was, he probably would have answered "to surf, smoke and make art." In Part 1 of a two-parter, we'll talk about Phil's childhood, his hobbies, relationships and career moves. This episode runs the gamut from Boy Scouts, Disneyland, Crosby Stills and Nash...and a Charles Manson follower??? Let's go!
