In May 1971, with a partnership of family and friends, Stuart Smith bought the ‘terroir’ which today is Smith-Madrone Vineyards & winery high on Spring Mountain. brbr Smith-Madrone remains a true craft producer, making only 4,000 cases of estate wine annually. The vineyards produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Riesling. brbr A visit to Smith-Madrone is a step back in time to the Napa Valley of the 1980's when the experience was much more personal and homespun.

Jean will share his passion for wine and let us in on some of his winemaking secrets. As you will see, Jean’s winemaking style and philosophy is unique and is considered “high risk.” Long natural barrel fermentation, often leaving his red wines on skins for up to 90 days, is his trademark technique which creates wines that are delicious, intriguing and complex.
