The Tennessee Three & Me

4/16/2023
These past two weeks have probably been the most hectic, but at the same the most prolific. Beginning just a day before Good Friday, April 6th two young Black Tennessee (TN) Lawmakers by the names of Justin Jones and Justin Pearson were put on trial and expelled by the TN GOP Super Majority in the TN State House. A third White Lawmaker by the name of Gloria Johnson was spared by one single vote. Some say only because of the color of her skin, which she-herself believes to be the case. These young lawmakers were expelled; according to the TN Speaker of the House, for violating house decorum, when they staged a protest in the middle of session using a bull horn to draw attention to important gun violence legislation. Their expulsion captured the attention of the entire nation and even the world, and just days later they were reappointed back to their seats to continue their fight for their constituents. In tonight's episode we chronicle the Tennessee Three's heralding display of courage and determination that led them from expulsion to reappointment and beyond. We do so with the backdrop of a question or a proposition that we plan to share that we also provide evidence to support for our case, that what happened in TN can happen anywhere in this country. Its a harsh reality to accept, but it is one that is frighteningly true. But, it is also a problem that we have the power to do something about. We share the solution in tonight's episode. PLUS, if there is one takeaway from the events that have transpired over the past two (2) weeks, it is we have gotten the opportunity to be introduced to the eloquence and the brilliance of these two TN Lawmakers; Rep Justin Jones & Justin Pearson. And, as an added bonus to tonight's episode we share with you the powerful speech the Rep. Pearson gave at the TN House on the night of his expulsion that galvanized not just the community of TN, but this country around the subject of gun violence, activism, and the power of the people's voice. Our Thought of the Week is coming from Rep. Justin Pearson during tonight's powerful episode. Needless to day, this is another powerful episode that is definitely appointment listening, and one that we hope sparks conversation, discussion, and much needed attention around the subject of gun violence, voting and most importantly activism. "Women of Influence"-Birthday Edition, featuring Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kyra Harris-Bolden

4/2/2023
We are celebrating our Birthday in a BIG way. Tonight, we are sharing an interview we had with newly appointed Michigan Supreme Court Justice Kyra Harris-Bolden. Justice Kyra Harris Bolden joined the Michigan Supreme Court on January 1, 2023, when she was appointed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, making her the first Black woman to serve as a Justice. A graduate of Southfield Public Schools, Justice Bolden received her bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. While serving as a state representative in the Michigan House of Representatives, Bolden advocated for Michiganders as a member of the Judiciary Committee and focused her work on criminal justice reform, crafting and passing bipartisan legislation to protect survivors of sexual violence. In her interview she shares contemplating a run for Michigan Supreme Court Justice after being asked by retiring Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence. Justice Bolden initially rejected the idea. But gave it some thought after becoming pregnant with her first child. What made her decide to go for it was always wanting her daughter grow up knowing that there as a Black Woman on the Michigan Supreme Court. And, now she has made this new reality a bit more personal; a new mother, becoming the first Black Woman ever to hold a sit on Michigan's highest court. This is an exciting an historic interview that we can't wait to share. PLUS, as we put a bow on "Women's History Month" we have a very special Thought of the Week that's entitled, "A Revelation Worth Sharing" that we believe is not just for women but is for all of us. It originates from the age old missed understanding of the most celebrated and most misunderstood women in history - Mary the Mother of Jesus. It is definitely a revelation worth sharing. We hope you get a chance to share in our special Birthday Edition of the podcast and do us a favor as our birthday wish, share this podcast episode with as many people as you can. Finally, thanks to all of you who have wished us a Happy Birthday. Your sentiments and birthday wishes are greatly appreciated. See you in the next episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-s-nimmons/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/michael-s-nimmons/support

MAN TO MAN: A Fireside Chat For Men

3/13/2023
Tonight, we are having an important fireside chat exclusively for men. This has been a long overdue conversation and discussion that we need to have with the young men of this generation. I know we are having this conversation in the midst of Women's History Month where we typically pay tribute to and acknowledge the accomplishments of women all around the globe who continue to make an indelible impact in our world. Ladies, we haven't forgotten about you, and we do have some amazing interviews lined up for this month. But, we believe this is an very important and worthwhile discussion that we -as men need to have, not just our sake but for the sake of future generations. We wanted to take some to acknowledge and recognize the victims of this tragic shooting, as well as address the question on the minds of millions of Americans, "where do we go from here?" We endeavor to spend time in this week's "Spartan Strong" edition, discussing the timeline of events that took place that fateful day on Feb 13th, and also memorialize the victims; Arielle Anderson, Brian Frazier and Alexandria Verney. 3 innocent victims who lost their lives very tragically at the hands of a deranged gunman. During tonight's episode we tackle the tough questions regarding what should be our next steps? Plus, we also take a look at the Gun Safety Bi-Partisan Legislation that was passed last summer and why hasn't it measured up, and what can be done to fix it. A call to action from our elected officials to join together to rid of our nation of this deadly epidemic of mass shootings and domestic terrorism. Something in deed needs to be done, and certainly we desire to be apart of the solution and not apart of the problem. And, this is why we have dedicated this entire show to share our thoughts about this very important subject of gun violence in America.
